I was the FIRST girl in my town to break into Boys' Little League. I not only made the team. I played first base. And, I made the All Star team and I was also the only girl to hit a home run. So boo ya!
I was the top scorer for our girls basketball team. I was an outstanding rebounder even though I wasn't the tallest. One game I pulled down 26 rebounds. In my last game, I shot 13 for 26 for a 50% from the floor. Our team closed on the other team and we went into double overtime. However, we lost the game because the other team simply put 2 people on me to cover me.
Through the Grace of God I have not smoked since December 8th, 2006.
I have a 20 year old daughter who hasn't had a baby. (around here that can be a big deal)
I have three kids who don't drink, do drugs or cause trouble. (again, a big deal around this area)
I lost 80 pounds. (gained back 20 but have kept the other 60 off)

I screwed up when I was 18! Had a baby and drug addicted husband at 20. Kicked him out and moved, went back to college at 28. Earned my undergrad and MBA, all paid for by moi, no loans. I am damn proud at how hard I worked. So ticked off at how I screwed up. I was tired of living paycheck to paycheck, wanted something more. I love learning and earning for myself, not just the paycheck, but the experiences.
I now have a son who has 8 years under his belt in the military, a strong career, and his own home. And a daughter that is smart and a book worm. Proud of my kids and know that would not have happened if I gave up and just lived off of welfare. Never had welfare, I was raised to believe welfare was for those who needed it, those who couldn't work 14 hours a day to better themselves so it was never a consideration.
Ok stepping down from the soapbox.

Well, I have a kind of similar story but I WAS on welfare. My ex left me with a newborn and I knew I had to do something. I immediately enrolled in college. It took me five years to get a four year degree but I did it. I took care of three kids and went to school and worked part time. I am not ashamed that I was on welfare. I worked my butt off to get off the system and be able to take care of my family myself. I'm proud that I was on the honor roll and Dean's list. I went through school completely on scholarships and grants. So I didn't have to pay anything back. But I wouldn't have been able to do that if I hadn't been a good student.

I was the first girl in the state to umpire Boys' Little League!
I can play the organ, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, a bit of bass guitar, trumpet and dulcimer. I am not that good but I can play recognizable songs.
I have a poem registered in the National Library of Congress. It is part of compilation.

Like some of you, I was married with kids at a young age. We were 19, and broke. But we made it without welfare. I did get WIC, but that was just formula and in our county practically everyone qualified. I worked full time while DH went to school and got his degree. We have been married for 23 years. We made mistakes, but we learned from them and stuck together. Most of the people at our wedding who were taking bets on how long our marriage would last are now divorced (including DH's parents).
I can play the clarinet and the French horn and I can sing.
In high school, I won awards for my acting.
I was in The Diary of Anne Frank, as Anne. After one show, I met a holocaust survivor who thanked me for my performance. I had heard him crying during the show and tried not to look in the direction of the crying. I would have lost it.

Wow, as some know, I am a huge holocaust buff as in I seek out stories of survivors and such. Your acting makes me jealous that I not that talented. must have been quite the experience.

I am a sucker for charities, I will give my last dime to any charity in front of me, especially anything to do with animals or kids.
I love to help the homeless, I volunteer at my local shelter and routinely donate the most needed items like diapers and socks and underwear. Also a lot of my money goes to this shelter. And I always give either money, or food or water to homeless people begging on the corners. Most of them are not bums because they are lazy, they are bums because they have MI.
