My sister Irene is flying to Dallas on business today. She's going to have dinner with us tonight, and check out Conor and Jessi's house.

Yesterday was her birthday, so we will celebrate with her a day late. smile

I'm going to make a low country boil. And get a pie for dessert. (Irene isn't big on cake.)

It should be a fun evening.

Traffic a mess. Working from home today.

My husband carved pumpkins for the boys. We took them to a Halloween party at the club. They had a haunted house...it was a little scarier than expected and #2 was a bit traumatized. #1 loved it.

Took the day off to finally get those tires. They had to be specially ordered, yadda yadda yadda ...

Just got back from the groomer. Aksel was pampered and fawned over and finally got his nails clipped. I am too chicken to do it myself. He smells SO good now - I need to find out what shampoo they use. He hates the car though. Any tips on getting him used to riding I the car? As soon as we get out he has to potty and he shakes the whole time we are driving.

You get a big pot of water boiling. Throw in some Old Bay seasoning, garlic, and red pepper.

Add 2 pounds of smoked sausage, cut in one inch chunks.

2 pounds tiny new potatoes

2 pounds pearl onions

6 ears of corn

2 pounds large shrimp

After you cook it, and drain it.

Throw newspaper all over your table. Or brown packing paper, if you prefer.

Dump it on the table. Serve with melted butter, c0cktail sauce, and sliced lemons.

Eat with your paws. (Okay, use a fork if you want to.) wink

Sounds interesting FWM. I did not know other areas of the country use Old Bay. I thought it was a regional thing.

A friend of mine just had a stillborn baby.

We (parents, sister, myself) are trying t feel out if it would be a good idea to visit or not. She is very quiet, and hates a fuss. She lives three hours away. It was their first baby. We made a trip up abut a month ago with a bunch of baby things. They were so happy and excited.

Dona go visit. Let her lead the conversation. Don't be afraid to ask about the baby. If they took pictures, can you see them.

A lot of people don't know how to act in a situation like this. But recognize the baby. Honor the baby and the precious little time they had with the baby.

If they have a service, go. In a week call and talk to the mother. Let her talk if she wants. Or just sit with her.

When my friend lost her baby, he was born without a brain, I went to hospital and sat with her. Let her talk and asked her questions like you would a new mom. What color was his hair, his eyes? Who did he look like.

Later she said I was the only one who treated her and her baby like they were real. Like the baby existed.

Just let the mom and dad lead and you will know what direction to go.

So I am almost finished with my Christmas shopping.

I have a few things to get C but I know exactly what I want, I just have to get them when she isn't with me.

I have to find dad something.

And then I am done other than stocking stuffers.

Both of my sisters-in-law lost their first ones, one at about 6 months due to the Dalcon Shield, the other at 8 months, stillborn.

In both cases their husbands and parents wanted it to be over and done immediately, they had a funeral and burial within a day, and didn't tell anyone. So no one went.

But to the mothers, these were real children. They need to mourn, and they need their friends to acknowledge the loss and be there for them.

Don't say anything like "It was God's will" or "You're young, you will have more". That may be true, but it's telling them not to mourn. They need to mourn.

Best to just be a good listener.

If anyone suggests that they should return the gifts, the answer is "No" and "don't do anything in a hurry."

Tell her that you can't be there physically every day, but if she's up to talking, there are telephones, and you don't mind at all if a 20 minute call is 19 minutes of silence, if that helps her.
