Ok, I am new to owning a dog that likes to destroy toys. DH's childhood dog just chewed a bone once in awhile. Aksel is destroying every stuffed toy we get him. It takes about a day or two for him to disembowel it. I understand that this is whatbe was bred for and I want to continue to let him get his energy out in this way. But is there a type of toy that would last longer? I cant afford to buy new toys every few days!
The ones without the stuffing don't excite him as much and he usually leaves them alone. He gets plenty of exercise and outside play time. If those things mattered, I just thought I would offer them up.
Thanks doggie geeks!

Monster wouldn't touch the silicone and nylon toys.
We got him the splash balls.
It's a solid piece so even if he did tear the cover he wouldn't be eating that fluff stuff.
And baby toys. They seem to be better made.
And he loves an empty water bottle slightly squished.

My dog destroys soft toys in under an hour. Waste of money let alone a big mess to clean up. She loves plastic 20oz bottles or water bottles and pigs ears so that's about all she gets. She won't play with rubber toys or balls.
I second Kong and Nylabones. also, puzzle toys, where you put some kibbles in and the dog has to work to get them out.
Also, antlers make great crew toys. They are natural and heavy duty. Corgi is a fan of them
DG told me this when we got our dogs. Yep. Worth every penny. We have a couple of ones that you fill with treats. They do get used to them and love them. We USED to buy the stuffed toys for our dogs. And they chewed them up in a day also. At first we didn't care. Until we found fluffy piles of poop. To avoid a huge vet bill we stopped buying them. Better safe than sorry.

We have a Kong, he sometimes plays with it, sometimes he ignores it totally.
He gets plenty of treats as we are training him to follow commands (sit, stay, drop it, etc) so I don't really want to do the treat toys until we are past the training stage. Otherwise he will end up a chunky monkey.
I have seen the Nylabones, I will give those a shot. I will look for the antlers as well.
You guys are the best! Thanks for all the help!

We have a golden lab who destroys all the standard toys. Average time is about 3 days.
Forget the ones filled with poly-fill. Your house will always look like a snowstorm with those.
We started making our own dog toys, after spending a small fortune on the store-bought ones.
Homemade sock toys: I take a sock and stuff two more socks inside it, then knot it a few times. You can also put a squeaker in, from another toy that your dog already destroyed.
Homemade rope toys: Take three lengths of clothesline or other heavy-ish rope, about two feet long each. Braid them together and put a double knot at each end. Great for tug-of-war.
And a few bits of kibble in a clear unlidded strong plastic jar will keep the dog occupied a little while.
Good luck!

We do this too.

Ice cubes are good alternative treats, if your doggie likes them. No calories, and they clean the teeth. Or for variety and a few calories, you can freeze chicken broth into cubes. My doggie loves those.
Oh, I forgot, we swear by the antler bones. Those are the only store-bought toy we'll get. Expensive, but our doggie will get about 2 months out of one. And very good for the teeth.

Great ideas! Thanks! I love the idea of the socks. That is something he would probably love that won't explode all over my carpet. I seem to be the only person in the house that notices the stuffing all over the carpet.

My rattie (age 6) got a rubber squeaky toy from a friend when we first brought her home as a puppy. We took that toy (soft rubber) and put it inside of one of DH's old socks, and tied a knot. That is about the ONLY toy she hasn't destroyed. Stuffed ones get unstuffed pretty quickly, but then we just remove all the rest of the white stuff, and it becomes a "skin". They love those just as much, and when they finally get too torn up, we just start again.
And when they are bored with the toys, they do keep each other entertained playing "bitey face"
Please please please be careful with stuffed toys. If they eat the stuffing it is not good for their gut. It can cause problems.
Our dogs love tennis balls. When they were little we bought smaller tennis balls in the pet section for them.

I buy the small tennis balls too. I even bought the expensive Kong tennis balls. Silly dog chews the felt right off of them. Last week he had a fuzzy green turd - all tennis ball fluff.
I know he is a terrier and it's in his makeup to rip stuff apart, so I want to let him have an outlet for that. You can't fight nature! I just want it to be cleaner, last longer than a few hours, not wreck my house, and not make his poop stringy and fuzzy green! Lol

Yes, we have one dog that eventually tears the fuzz off the tennis ball. But it takes her awhile.
