I don't see how dropping a Bible tract in a bag is forcing religion. Forcing religion to me in being made to listen to a sermon or being made to participate in a ritual.
A piece of paper is just that. Use it to start a fire or put that gross gum in.
It isn't forcing.
And don't complain about what someone gives you.

So you wouldn't be offended if your kids came home with voodoo dolls?
Being offended and being forced are two different things.

Well then it would be ok to hand out satanic mater then since it's their home and it isn't forcing anything.
What do you want?
You want a law saying that a person can not, in any way, perpetuate their belief? They cant pass out tracts in their own home? On their own property?
Or is it just the Christians who can not?
That Freedom of Religion thing can be such a pain.

You are asking THEM for candy. They can hand out a tract if they want to--if you don't like it, don't knock on their door.
Ummm...okay, you don't KNOW they're handing out tracts BEFORE you knock.
flan
So what? It's their discretion what they want to hand out--not yours. It applies to any door you might knock on. It's rude to b!tch about what amounts to a gift.
I also consider it rude to force your religious beliefs on others. No one knocked on any doors and yelled "praise the Lord!"
No one is "forcing" anything. You knocked on THEIR door. You were on THEIR property. They didn't run you down in the street and force them into your candy bag.

This is a KID'S holiday. Go peddle your agenda somewhere else.
flan
Somewhere else?
Cant in school, on any government property, the street corner is becoming a battle ground and basically the only place left is the church or home.
So where exactly are you talking about?

???? Depends on where they got them--but if they were at someone else's house, on someone else's property--then no.
I might have the kids skip that house next year--but they did nothing wrong. They were on their own property. It's not like they were handing out razor blades and used heroin needles.

It's THEIR frickin' house. They can do whatever they want to under the law.
What part of that concept is so difficult to understand?
Just because YOU may not like what they do on their property is IRRELEVANT. Don't like it? Get the fvck off.
I wasn't the one with a problem. I just find it funny that you guys get so worked up when it is against YOUR freedom of religion.
I don't give a crap if you go to a church, temple, whatever satan worshipers go to, or nothing. I don't care!
Everyone has freedom of religion. It would make no difference if it were some other religion as long as they aren't running down kids in the street and putting crap in their bags.
I find it rather sad that you are not in favor of such freedoms.
What, you want some law passed so that it becomes illegal to hand out religious material from your own home?

It doesn't have to be the exact words. You've been arguing this entire thread that they shouldn't be able to do this. If that isn't your stance, then WTF are you arguing about?

Yes. Equality. I know what that means. Do you?
You are saying a person should not be handing out Christian tracts on their own front porch.

Heck, if I go to knock on a JW's house--I'd damn sure expect to get some literature. They come to YOUR house and pass that crap out--why would I possibly expect them to NOT do so when I go to THEIR house????

It's an either/or scenario. EVERONE you are arguing with has said that people can hand out whatever they want in their own home as long as it is within the bound of the law (and isn't something dangerous like razor blades or cigarette lighters).
Either you agree with that--in which case why in the heck do you keep arguing AGAINST it?
Or you don't--which seems to be your position since you argue with everyone who holds that they should be able to hand out what they want.

Your words.
I take that to say that if you come to my house, I shouldn't say anything about my religion while you are here.
Or if you come to my house, asking for handouts or any other reason, I shouldn't give you a piece of paper about my beliefs.
Because that would be forcing and rude.

It's HALLOWEEN. They are CHILDREN. Give them candy & STFU.
I would never do that even though everyone I know except my Jewish friends are Christian. Only time we discuss religion is home group bible study. Yep, I go to church every week but that is my private business and I don't have to constantly remind myself or anyone else.

It's Halloween, they are begging on my porch. They will get what I give them.
If they don't like it, don't come begging.

So you never share the Gospel with anyone? Cause that is what a Christian is mandated to do. Share the Good News of Christ.

Good gravy. It's a piece of paper. I would take it and move on just like I take all the Jesus saves pamphlets handed to me and throw them away when out of sight. If it offends you so much skip that house next year. You went to their house, they didn't come to yours.
I don't care what people put in my kids bags as long as it's not needles and razor blades. Throw in a voodoo doll. Or a tract. I'll toss it if I don't like it. Simple as that. Here we get a lot of people who slip coupons for their business in the bags. Like ten dollars off a car wash or ten percent off a roofing job. Those go in the trash too. Unless it's a free ice cream cone or donut for the kids they pretty much go in the trash. Does anyone even read them?
Besides, the whole thing about voodoo dolls is they have to be made in someone's image and you have to believe in order for the magic to work. So I'm guessing that for those of us who think that is bunk it wouldn't matter anyway.

I doubt they do. See Halloween is a night of rites for Wiccans. You basically just called their religion a kids thing.

Well, I don't think it offensive. Just annoying. And, then eventually Halloween will be everyone passing out religious, political agendas, business cards, etc. Let kids just have their kid time. It's 2 dang hours a year. Sheesh.
I doubt they do. See Halloween is a night of rites for Wiccans. You basically just called their religion a kids thing.
And Halloween, as WE celebrate it now, has CHANGED.
Sorry you don't know that...

Apparently you are the one who doesn't know.
It is still a night of rites. Still taken as seriously as a Christian takes communion.
