Report: Woman hit, killed by No. 4 train when she was peering to see when it was coming
November 1, 2014 by THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
A 63-year-old woman is dead after she was hit by a subway train in the Bronx.
The Daily News reports that the woman was killed just after 7:45 p.m. Friday after she peered over the platform to see if a train was coming.
The newspaper says the woman suffered a massive head injury when a northbound No. 4 train smacked into her at the 167th Street station. She died at the scene.

The entire article was presented for your reading pleasure. It didn't say anything about her being deaf. One would presume that a subway rider would KNOW which direction the train would be coming from, so she was probably looking right at its' headlights.

That is awful.

DS had a high school best friend, "Mike", who died of Acute Terminal Stupidity. One night Mike and his girlfriend were sitting on the wooden cover over the 3rd rail of the Long Island Railroad, near the Valley Stream station.
In the dark.
Electric trains are silent. The engineer didn't see them until he hit them.
Yes, it's awful.
I think about Mike at least a couple of times a week when I drive down his street.
