As a gay man who grew up in a Roman Catholic household, I know the push and pull of being a good Christian versus being exactly who God made you, especially if you're part of the LGBTQ spectrum. But those things don't have to be mutually exclusive, do they? This grandmother from Australian TV comedy "Please Like Me" doesn't think so.
Pastor: Homosexual sex is dangerous and destructive to the human body. Homosexuality is a sin.
Grandmother I have...I have just learned that I have a homosexual grandson. Technically, he is not my grandson but anyway, that's not important so certainly it was a disappointment. I feel like I've been robbed of great grandchildren, but if he has decided to lead a homosexual lifestyle isn't it my responsibility to love him? Because if they are born that way they have no choice but to be true to themselves. Josh, stand up. Stand up. This is my Josh. He is homosexual and I love him, which is what God would want and if it isn't what God would want then he or she could stick it. Come on, we're off.
She didn't correct him that homosexual sex is dangerous and destructive... And right now, it's not completely untrue. Unprotected anal sex between two men is still considered riskier than heterosexual anal sex because there's still a higher instance of gay men who have HIV than straight men. But lesbian sex is the safest of them all.
A better statement would be unprotected sex is dangerous. Because it is. For gay and straight people.
To him, that is not a lie. That is between him and God.
I have a problem with people who become so focused on homosexuality as a sin that they ignore all other sins, acting as if homosexuality is the only sin that exists in the world.

First, this is a pastor preaching that homosexuality is a sin. That is pretty basic, and yes there are other sins. Pastors don't usually preach on EVERY sin every Sunday - they focus on different sins at different times. Our pastor is focusing on putting Jesus first and the multitude of sins that keep people from doing that, but it's a series - not all in one sermon. So, yes, there are other sins, but it is highly doubtful this pastor preaches on homosexuality every Sunday.
As for the grandmother - she is right. It is her job to love her grandson and that is what God would want.

Maybe, but we have all seen the people who scream against homosexuality while attending church on sunday with their out of wedlock children, live in girlfriend or third husband. That's my point.

That gets preached on, too, but it's not as controversial b/c even the people doing it know it is a sin.

My point isn't necessarily preachers. My point is people.
People like to scream about how wrong homosexuality, homos go straight to hell etc while they're having sex out of wedlock or any other thing that is a sin. Or they turn a blind eye to their loved ones doing something like that. One kid could be sleeping with a different person every day, and the other is gay, and they'd throw the gay one out.

And people like that suck.

Absolutely. There are lots of people living together in the Church but nobody bats an eye. But, they go apeschit over homosexuality. You are correct.

I've never said homosexuality is more egregious than any other sin--or that homosexuals are automatically doomed to he!!.
But--a couple of issues are these:
A. homosexuals don't think it is a sin, so they aren't, in general, asking forgiveness for that sin.
B. living together without being married is a sin, to be sure, but there is a convenient way to end that particular sin, and most couples that are churched get to it sooner rather than later. In fact, those couples who are churched are much less likely to do it in the first place than those who don't go to church.

Regardless of our sins, aren't we all children of God and deserve forgiveness if we ask? there is not one person on this board that has not committed a sin, and probably a really bad one. Who are we to judge? Homosexuality is a burden. I am glad I am not a lesbian, I don't think I am strong enough to deal with that inner struggle. I don't know if it should be branded as being wrong. But I do know humans that sit in judgement of sinners are more wrong than any other sinner. A pastor/priest/Reverend is no more than a human as you and I. They are not God, they are teachers, and need to know that and live that.

Umm marriage was created by humans to stop the spread of STDs. Adam and Eve were not married.
Sorry. No. Marriage was created by God. It used to be if a young couple had sex, they were automatically married.

I don't profess to be a student of the bible, I studied history. And marriage was an ideal created thousands of years ago to combat disease. Perhaps I was studying a different culture at that time that adopted the christian doctrine? Who knows.

Unfortunately, people spew the "word of God" to justify their own judgement on someone. It's disgusting.

There's a Q on it now? Do we really need that? How about if we just put the whole alphabet on there to cover every possibility.

People who behave badly should get "judged".
EVERYONE does it. We have social mores and taboos for things that are not crimes--and a judicial system for things that are.
Should we not "judge" someone who kills someone else? Pedophiles?

There are a few more letters that some people tack on. I don't understand some of the sexualities people claim. Pangender, genderqueer, gender fluid, bigender. I don't really get what they are. I guess they are outside of my realm of understanding. I am not sure i buy in to them, and that probably makes me suck as a gay person because I should be more understanding of other peoples differences considering my own... but honestly I just don't understand them and I think some are created to be edgy and envelope pushing. It's just getting to be ridiculous.
But I am okay with the Q. People who are unsure if they are gay or straight could use support while figuring it out.

Yes it is. It's getting downright stupid and then people don't take the "movement" seriously. At some point there needs to be an end. Do I have a problem with people getting support while figuring things out? No. Why can't the Every Letter In The Alphabet Movement just come up with one simple name? Black people don't have the light blacks and the dark blacks. I mean there could be a name for the whole movement. Would just be so much easier. I know some people who won't even try to say all the letters now because they're ever changing and you're always insulting someone if you can't remember one of the 46 letters.

Regardless if they are light or dark black, they are still black.
Gay usually refers to men, Lesbian to women. Someone who is gay is not a bisexual. And a gay or a bisexual is not necessarily a transexual. It's not the same.
There should still be a name for the movement. It's getting too long and just confusing. In a year there will be too many letters to even string together.

Adam and Eve came first according to the Bible.
But even setting that aside, adopting marriage to combat disease kind of supports the whole sleeping around is bad thing.
