Jesus married Mary Magdalene, fathered 2 children, new book claims

‘The Lost Gospel,’ available Wednesday and written by Prof. Barrie Wilson and Simcha Jacobovici, makes the claims after a six-year study of the ‘Ecclesiastical History of Zacharias Rhetor,’ a text that was brought to the UK from Egypt in 1847.

Jesus Christ was not crucified but instead raised a family with Mary Magdalene while surviving multiple assassination attempts, a controversial new book sensationally claims.

Prof. Barrie Wilson and writer Simcha Jacobovici allege in "The Lost Gospel," to be released Wednesday, that Jesus married the prostitute and went on to have two children with her, reports the International Business Times.

"According to the document that we uncovered, sometime during this period he became engaged, got married, had sexual relations and produced children," the book states.

The duo also claim there were a series of assassination attempts on both of the historical figures and their infants' lives — including one when Jesus was 20 years old.

And they say that Jesus was a well-connected man with links to powerful political figures in the Roman Empire.

Wilson, a professor of religious studies at York University in Toronto, and Jacobovici, an Israeli-Canadian writer and filmmaker, publish the book on Wednesday.

They say that it is based off a translation of an ancient Aramaic manuscript found inside the British Library.

They claim the "Ecclesiastical History of Zacharias Rhetor," brought to the UK in 1847 after being recovered from an Egyptian monastery, offered them intimate secrets about Jesus' family life, reports The Washington Post.

After studying the content for six years, they said that, while it didn't specifically name Jesus Christ, one of the characters called Joseph bared a resemblance to him.

And they argue that Joseph's wife in the text, called Aseneth, was in fact Mary Magdalene.

"Before anyone gets his/her theological back up, keep in mind that we are not attacking anyone’s theology. We are reporting on text," Jacobovici writes, according to The Sunday Times.

The authors have come in for criticism, however, after fellow scholars revealed they had previously dismissed the manuscript of being of any significance.

And the British Library has also appeared to try and distance itself from the project.

An official statement released in October said it "has no connection with the book other than housing the manuscript used by research for the authors," reports Fox News.

Jacobovici has also come in for criticism in the past, reports The Sunday Times. In 2002 he produced a documentary on the James ossuary, a relic claimed to show Jesus had a family — and which the Discovery Channel later named as being one of the top scientific hoaxes of all time, reports the International Business Times.

A press conference will be held at the British Library Wednesday, where the duo will unveil more details about their claims, reports The Sunday Times

Who cares if he did? There's nothing wrong with that.

Well, I'm a bit more disturbed by the whole "crucification was fake" thing.

Can you imagine if Jesus had kids?  There would be descendants of God on earth right now.  I mean, besides everyone.

Probably we all know someone who thinks he or she is God. Or "a god". or should be.

It's BS. It doesn't say so in this article, but in another one I read about this, they are also claiming that the Virgin Mary and Mary Magdalene are the same person--which is ridiculous, especially if they are claiming that Mary Magdalene is Jesus' wife AND they have children.

Idiots.

It seems like every so many years some of these kind of books come out. If I remember correctly, about 20 years ago someone published a book which supposedly proved Jesus was a homosexual.... I do not know why some people feel they need to try to create some kind of "secret" thing about Jesus.

Well, if that were true, then there would be some Divine family of humans roaming the earth.  I think that is kind of the point.   I think it is best to stick to the evidence.  Which is the Gospels and the fact that Jesus was crucified as the Bible says and other sources.  Sheesh.  People will go to any lengths in order not to believe.

It is an attempt to make Jesus/God human and that means He isn't Divine and is capable of sin.

It's much more plausible that he was married than that he had children.

Any children would have been REVERED by his followers--yet nothing is mentioned of any in the Gospels.
