I want a black Christmas tree with gold decorations. It think it could be very elegant.
Or about as cheap looking as you could get. LOL!!
How many trees do you put up?
How fancy or plain are the decorations?
Do you decorate outside?
How much do you do?
We put up two trees. The decorations vary. Depending on the tree. We decorate outside some. I have to put restrictions on C or there would be lights on everything.

I need ideas this year for an alternative tree. I can't get a real one this year since we will be on vaca soon after Christmas. I don't want to buy a fake one because then I have to store it plus they are pricey.

I have two that I decorate with ornaments, etc. One in the living room, one in the dining room. I have one large in our bedroom with just lights. I have small table top trees with lights in the boys room, and each guest room if we are expecting house guests. I have two without lights, just toppers and maybe miniature ornaments in two bathrooms. The boys' bathroom has a bowl filled with glass ornaments and Christmas fingertip towels. I have lighted branch garland and twinkly lights on the mantel and various places throughout the house. I have various brick/brach around, not too much. pine branches here and there, etc. Wreaths on the french doors, large window.
Well, not yet, but that's what I do each year. The welcome candles are already out in the windows. Maybe this year we'll put the train around the living room tree.
Outside we have lighted deer under the pine trees. We have a small "Christmas" type tree on the side yard that we put lights on. Each year we add a strand. We put green wreaths with red bows in every window. All those windows that we need to clean, Lily.
Ok as much as I like that one posted, I don't want to be nailing anything to my wall. I do need a tall houseplant for the corner of my living room, perhaps this is the year I finally get one. Norwegian pine or a Hibiscus?

This girl on fb is selling this type of stuff. I bought the fall/noel reversible sign, but I think I might attempt to make the snowmen myself. I wont sell them, but I think it looks fun to make.

I can make these, I have the wood. I suppose poly the ends, then decorate. they would look good for some sort of walkway thing and put a strand of battery operated lights around it.

S0 ... after the discussion about whether I should decorate for Christmas even though I live alone I have decided to give it a try. I'm going to put up my mini Christmas tree tomorrow (I've been waiting for after Remembrance Day).
What are a few basic staples (that are very very affordable) that you recommend? I was thinking white twinkle lights outside on the railing along my stairs to the basement entrance, but there is no outlet out there, so it's a no-go.

That is not a bad price considering the nit hats and scarfs. Now if I were a knitter, I could make these all summer and market them starting in October. The FB yard sale sites are awesome for selling things.

Maybe a few Christmas throw pillows to put on the couch or chair. Something festive to put on the table. That would be a way to decorate but keep it simple too.
Not sure if I will put up a tree at work this year. I am not feeling the spirit this year at all. I do not decorate my home in any way, and haven't for years. I guess I will have to sit on this for a few and see if I can garner up any holiday spirit this year at all.

But he will have a new Christmas collar. Probably with bells.

I love table top Christmas Trees. I have one of the old timey, tight up ceramic ones. So now that we are back in the US, I am making one each year. I made a quilt one last year and a peppermint candy one the year before.
I need to take pictures.

Table top trees are great. Easy, cute, take up very little space.
IKWTDS, go out and find an interesting tree branch.
Use a matte or a metallic spray paint to cover it.
When it dries, push it into a foam form in a neat container.
You can decorate it with lights if you want. Tie ribbons on it. Put some of your favorite ornaments on it.
Just make it pretty and interesting.
It would be easy to take down before you leave or you can leave it up and it wont be a mess when you get back.

I haven't decorated for Christmas in a few years now. Sean asked me why I did it since it only put me in a foul mood. I couldn't come up with a good answer so I gave it up. It makes the holidays much less stressful. I have an entire closet full of pretty decorations that I don't use. My niece just came up for a visit & was lamenting that they had no decorations. I wish she would have told me before she was heading back home & I would have packed her little car full of them. I'm going to root around & give her some when she comes up for Christmas so she'll have them for next year.

That is a really good idea and I am sure she will really appreciate it.
IKWTDS why not just get some construction paper and things like that and let your daughter make a tree for this year?

I saw a felt tree on Pinterest. Make a big tree out of felt and pin it up. Then, let your daughter make ornaments out of felt, too, and put them on it.

I am wondering if it is more like the blow up lawn things.
Maybe it is a collapsible skeleton. Something like those pop up tents.
But they are pretty.

I have a fiber optic tree that gets put up every year. I also set out my light up ice skating rink with snowmen that ice skate on it and my light up angel. Last year, my BIL and SIL gifted me a gnome nativity set so that's joined the decorations. I also have a strand of musical lights that have been on my family's Christmas tree ever since I was a little kid. I have a couple boxes of Christmas lights that are meant to be put on bushes but those sometimes get put up on the wall. The indoor garlands I have get draped over the ceiling fan and doorframe.
If the 99cents store sells the fake snow again this year, we'll decorate the windows. We'll also pick up some garlands for the patio. They're usually pretty ratty by the end of the month so we don't store them for next year.
I'm looking forward to the houses I know that do huge displays each year. I can't wait to see my son's face as he takes in all the decorations. He loved getting his pics with the Easter bunny so I'm hoping he'll also love getting his pics with Santa.
It has begun. We usually wait till Thanksgiving night to put the tree up and spend the weekend decorating. But we had the stuff out and instead of putting it back up and getting out again in 2 weeks, we put it up last night.
The tree isn't finished yet. Once it is I will post a picture.
I'll take pictures of the other things as well.

Yeah - I'm thinking this. Well, not cheap as much as morbid. It would look dead, which defeats the tradition of having a tree.
