I need ideas this year for an alternative tree. I can't get a real one this year since we will be on vaca soon after Christmas. I don't want to buy a fake one because then I have to store it plus they are pricey.
I just bought a 6 ft fake tree at Target for $22.50. Not expensive at all, it's still pretty small so it won't be hard to store, and if you don't want to keep it, you could always donate it.

Well we had it out and I didn't see the point in putting it up for 2 weeks just to get it back out again.
It's just the tree right now.
We will wait to go full on Christmas.

I was at the dreaded WalMart yesterday and they were putting out little potted evergreen plants. They were really cute.
My mother had a Norfolk Pine that got pretty big and she bought really light-weight ornaments and decorated it and used it as her tree one year.
The year I moved into my house in December I decided not to get a tree. Just way too much hassle with the move. My friend didn't want me to not have a tree so she gave me a Norfolk Pine with little tiny balls & bows. It was so sweet. Unfortunately it died.

There are several options for you if you want lights along your entrance.
1. Battery powered mini lights - available at craft stores - $2.99 for 10 lights. Weave them in with bright garland and wrap around the hand rail. Use rechargeable batteries. Initially more expensive, but they last longer and can be used again and again.
2. Lowes/Home Depot have screw-in sockets that you can use in your overhead light to run a weather-proof short extension cord to all the twinkling lights you want. It screws in to the fixture where your light bulb would be, plus it has 1 or 2 outlets for the extension cord, so you can have your entrance light as well as your decorations.
Havent really decided what to do with the tree and the living room. Leaning toward a ice tree. But I am toying with the idea of a gaming tree. I think the boys will like that.

Ok so my conundrum is the mantel and pine. I have fake stuff but also plenty of real stuff I can trim off various trees and bushes in my yard, including holly. anyone have ideas? Mind you, I have fire going almost every evening.

Got the tree mostly decorated. Since we go for the beach theme we used a beach towel for the tree skirt. Got some decorations up around the house too. Even found a spot for my small nutcracker collection. DD dropped Douglas the talking tree and he broke. It's about time. I hated that annoying thing.

Use the fake stuff. The real stuff might dry out too quickly.
I usually wait until 2 weeks before but decided to do it earlier this year. I have some lights for the outside I will put up tomorrow when it's a little warmer.
I know we got our first tree up a little early but I like it. First Christmas in a long time I have actually looked forward to. Got the white tree up last night. It still needs a few touches and we cant seem to find the topper for it. But it is very understated this year. I have a few pictures.

I love you back! It's the best Christmas decor I have ... if the rest of my apartment wasn't so ... um .... purple ... I would post a pic I'll post when it looks a little more Christmassy. I'm going to borrow a white sheet from work to make snow in the little alcove where I hung the stocking.
Also, I just downloaded a bunch of crochet and knitting patterns for Christmas stockings to take to the girls at work. They could use a new project.

I made the bow. Used the pointsettias instead of a tree skirt. Added a few balls and some more icicles.
Still cant see it shimmer in the pictures.
And when the sun shines though it, I have prisms everywhere.

Lily your icy tree is BEAUTIFUL!!! Truly a work of art. It might be the prettiest tree I have ever seen! The ribbon really sets it off. Now get hopping & make one for my house, please!!

I bought a Norwegian Pine at the store, 4' , just put lights on it, good to go! I decided not to get into the Pinterest crafty stuff. Just isn't me. Now if someone wanted to come over and do one for me then come and take it down, that would be fine. I bought it because I want a large corner plant anyway. Once it gets too big for the house, I will plant it outside.
I put my SS gifts under it tomorrow tomorrow will ad the non santa gifts just to drive DD crazy. (she no longer believes BTW)

What?!?!? No longer believes!?!?! I still believe in Santa! He's real I tell you. And some day I am going to marry him and be fat and jolly and bake cookies and live with short people and have someone grant me my every wish.
Santa is too real! (and yes, I stomped my relatedly!)

When C was about 9 or 10, maybe a little younger, she left her little diary in the Christmas tree. I just happened to raise up from putting the presents under the tree Christmas eve and saw it completely by chance.
In it she wrote "Santa, if you are real please sign your name".
I had a metallic gold sharpie and I wrote "of course I am real! Santa Claus"
I put it back in the tree.
The next morning I watched as she found the little diary and opened it and when she read it she smiled the biggest grin. Then she closed it and put it in her pocket and didn't say anything about it.
I don't know how much longer she believed but it kept the magic alive for her at least a little longer.

Sooo...when I stopped at the liquor store last night, the owner (a friend) was decorating. I commented on his decor and he gave me a ball wreath. He wasn't going to use it this year.. I love it!!!!
Love the wreath. And I love the photography. The wreath in the wreath is nice.
SB, the people at your liquor store probably think you are a closet alcoholic with all those little bottles. LOL...
