when my kids were little they had to get rid of or give away whenever they got a new one, it helped keep the toy number realistic. I had to make myself do that with shoes, I WAS crazy nuts with shoes, now I have two pairs of flip flops, one pair of tennis shoes, and three pairs of HD riding boots and a pair of snow boots. and it is not as hard as I thought it would be. I purged lots of doo dads, older towels that we never used, some I saved for rags, and then da dum dum da I made myself go through my underwear/bra/socks drawers and get rid of those I would NEVER ever wear, but kept you in in case they stop making them....all the washers *in the whole world break* or other unknown crazy reasons, and it is so nice to reach in and know that whatever pair I grab will be fine, not one I needed to put back in and fish for a better one
Shoes are hard. I threw away 3 pair the other day. I need to toss more. DH just told me to toss them and buy more if I need them. He's such a good man.

I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.
I just bought 4 purses at goodwill. Plus I bought one at tjmaxx last week. Should I purge?
The purses were a great find. One Burberry in beautiful condition. A Dooney backpack that needed a little cleaning. A small Prada in good shape. And a cute small Fossil bag. The bag from tjmaxx was a cute Dooney tote.

You, madam, have a problem.

The best product to clean leather (real or ersatz) ?
SHAVING CREAM !
Yep - the cheaper the better! Take a slightly damp wash cloth, & spritz some "el cheapo" store brand shaving cream onto it, and, using a circular motion, clean the leather. The tiny bubbles will get into the cracks, and the moisturizers will condition the leather. When it is clean, use a dry wash cloth to wipe up any remaining lather.
Spent the day purging a bunch of crap. 2 big bags to Goodwill. 100+ DVDs to Bookman's to see what they'll buy and what's left will go to Goodwill. I can actually see the floor in DS' room now. There's some toys that he's outgrown but I think I can sell them on either Craigslist or a mommy group. Going to see what Christmas and his birthday brings in and send some more stuff out.
I'm instituting a new rule for the New Year. If I can't consume it in some way (food, gift card, stuff like that), it better serve a purpose or out it goes. Appliances are welcome to stay. Crap that only takes up space on a shelf is not. Few exceptions will be made.
BAH! DH sent SS into his room to clean up his toys and sort through stuff. He "cleaned" by emptying his toy box into a trash bag. DH asked me to look at the bags. I told him he was throwing away perfectly good toys. He said he didn't care he had enough toys. I told him right then and there he wasn't getting any toys for his birthday in two weeks. His punishment was he had to clean out his dresser. He had two bags of outgrown clothes to get rid of. Someone already came and got the toys and another person got one bag of clothes. Waiting on someone to want the last bag of clothes.

DD has totally cleaned her room, so much so that I can vacuum it. She has organized her drawers and closet. She even started swapping her furniture out with the pieces in the spare bedroom. She started about 3 weeks ago and it is done. She loves her room now, and seems to have shed her hoarding ways. I am so proud of her and relieved!

Spent several days helping the first stage of purging dad's house. He hasn't lived there in 9 years. My brother has been living there but most the stuff is dad's. Some of mom's stuff is still there too. A lot more to do before putting it on the market but there's plenty of time since we have to wait.
I will be purging lots from my own home. So much stuff is unnecessary.

So after reading the thread about the neighbor who kept bringing food over I was inspired to clean my fridge. I have a large fridge, larger than the standard size. Oh boy!!!!!!!!!!!! Can I just say that after all the holiday baking, making side dishes, and having leftovers handed to me that I had a lot of items that were questionable. I do still need to wash the shelves down and of course empty the trash...

I plan to do this very thing this weekend. Tear fridge apart and clean all parts and check out *stuff* inside, though it is not looking too bad right now, I try to stay on top of tossing

Not if you live in my area! You just buy the fridge in the winter, that way you can put your things on the deck in a cooler until the new one is in. It is one advantage to living here, perhaps the only advantage...

Lol, I will keep my 60 - 70 degree winter days and stuff everything in a cooler or two.
Easiest purge ever. My dad is cleaning his storage and called to ask about some items DH and I had in it. Neither of us could recall the items so obviously we weren't attached to them or even missed them. We told my dad to sell them and keep the money.
It's been almost 2 years since we've purged anything?
I've been busy.
I've purged my room and bathroom, closets, chests, cabinets, drawers, so much so I'm thinking of getting rid of my big chest of drawers and dresser and getting a small wardrobe and small table and chair.
When I started my paint project, which I'm still putting finishing touches on, of course the cabinets were going to get purged. I got a whole bag of junk, a large lawn bag, of junk out.
Tomorrow is the bottom of the hutch.
I'm working my self up to do the hall closet/pantry. I dread it.

I purged a lot of clothing (again) because of the move. I've also gone through the kitchen and purged a lot of stuff there. Now, I'm going through old pics / paintings (not any of family) and deciding what I no longer want or will hang on to for the GKs when they finally move out on their own. Time to get rid of "stuff" again. Loving it.
It's been 14 months so resurrecting this thread. I just purged 20 pair of shoes/boots. Yes Vette even my hooker boots. If you want them I will send them to you.
I have moved all the keepers to my one large walk in closet. I have three closets in my master and two smaller ones are outside the bathroom which will become part of the bathroom, doubling the size of it.
Next pants! Probably not today though.

I would like to purge DH's stuff. I'm pretty much a minimalist but he has hoarder tendencies. I counted his jackets /coats one day and he has over 60. Sixty jackets! Of which he wears ONE except on date night he has a fancy one he wears. But I can't get him to downsize.

60 is insane. Not saying my 100+ pairs of shoes is not but I now down to 20.
Reno as Czech and I said!

So this is insane. I moved my pants/slacks/ suits that I am keeping to my walk in. Guess how many pairs of jeans and pants I am giving away? Just guess.

I tell the kids, for every one thing they bring home, they need to get rid of 2 things.

So I posted on the local FB page for good places to donate my insane amount of clothing. I received some great responses but also received an IM from a friend interested in them. Her family doesn't have a lot of money, moved here from another state about 4 years ago to get a new start. They have been working hard to better themselves. She finished school and was promoted. She used to have wear only scrubs but in the new job needs professional clothing. The friend saw my post and wanted to see the clothes. She just left with a ton of clothing. I am so happy for her. Type of person you want to help out. And I still have a lot to bring to the charity I chose.

I'm really disappointed with the amount of stuff we threw out from the pantry. Part of the problem is the actual space. It's deep and narrow. It's very hard to see anything once it's got more than a few things in it. I really want to reconfigure it but it need to decide exactly what would work best in the space I have.
oh lightbulb! DD's friend has a master's in interior design! She doesn't work because she takes care of her mother. I bet I can get her to design something and maybe her uncle (lives with them, also no real job 🍷🍺)can build it. I'm sure both would love a side job!

Got a bunch of lids to various shaped bowls we no longer have, too.
Gotta get rid of this stuff.
