That's not "open-minded".  It's foolish.

I went back & reread THIS thread.

Here's the first dig...

flan

Oh, so you get to call people who disagree with you "close-minded" (which is EXACTLY what you are doing by saying your point of view is the open-minded one), but no one can call your opinion anything negative? LOL!!!!

You can sure dish it out, but you can't take it.  Your hypocrisy knows no bounds.

So, as long as a member contributes to a thread, it's o.k. to attack posters? That makes sense, and clears up a few things.

Except he didn't attack anyone on this board in this thread until he was attacked.  Your high horse needs some air.

But his posting history, as we all know, is another matter altogether.

flan

So what?  That does not excuse any of you for this thread.  And YOUR posting history is not exactly all nice and pristine either.  What does that have to do with anything here?  Just because you don't like his blunt opinions does not mean that it gives you license to attack him.  You talk about lazy, but the only lazy ones I see are the ones who can't be bothered to intelligently attack his opinions, so you start attacking him instead.  And you think it's OK simply because you don't like the way he posts.  People call him childish while being childish.  It's ridiculous.  Bitch, bitch, moan, moan, while you are doing the EXACT same thing and don't see it.

 I wish I was wise...

Tiny Dancer has said nothing about husker that hasn't been said before. At least Richard could argue endlessly without resorting to insults.

flan

I'll bet you wish you were wise.

Oh, and Richard was banned from the previous forum for using insults--which I was not.

I don't understand the need to bring people into these discussions who are no longer here.

Who cares what Richard would or would not do?

He isn't here so it doesn't matter.

You want to be upset about this but see no problem in calling me a bitch for disagreeing with you.

How exactly does one talk out of both sides of their mouth at the same time?

Because there is NOTHING to spell out.

You want to bring someone into things who has no posting power here and has been gone for well over a year a now. It's like bringing a knife when everyone else has a gun. It's pointless.

If you have something to say. Say it.

Stop with the half veiled innuendos and insults and just say it.

We are all adults here.

Ok. You think I'm attacking you...lol and I think your posts are juvenile when you swear and use foul language for no apparent reason. Let's call it a day and take this up another time. I'm sure there will be more chances in the future. Just so this can be considered a contributing post my opinion on this is that it would have been nice if they'd followed her wishes but once you're dead it really is all about what the living want.

I was talking to my husband about this. Yes, whoever is paying for it has all the control, but that doesn't make it the right thing to do. You should still show respect to the dead and who they are. I wouldn't want to be viewed in some hideous outfit with my hair shaved and clown makeup, but I guess whoever pays for it has that right?

Lol!

I mean if I was living I wouldn't want to be viewed like that, so I think it's safe to say not to do it when I am dead. Actually, the idea of being viewed at all makes me uncomfortable. I've never liked being the center of attention. But I guess I won't know the difference!

IMHO, this whole thread has been pointless. The dead are dead, they have no voice. Especially if there is no living will stating the deceased preferences. It's the living that need to get over themselves.
What's done is done. It doesn't matter, IMHO. Move on folks.
I know when I'm dead, I'm not going to give a rats arse about anything. Why should you? (general you)

When the dead can vote for their rights, I'm moving off planet. wink

I mean really, the vessel is empty. That is all a dead body is, an empty vessel.

Yes, the spirit of who we are is no longer present in our body. But, that doesn't mean we still should not treat remains or the deceased body with a special kind of respect. We seem to not care anymore and just think "oh well toss it in the trash". And, regardless, that body housed the person that you loved and a certain amount of respect should go into that.

I simply cannot imagine planning a funeral that a family member or friend would not like.

When DH1 died, I spent a lot of time choosing the songs, etc. I did it because I loved him.

We really don't know what the family's intentions were. They may not have really known him in recent years and his transition. So, I don't think we can presume the family was doing anything intentionally hurtful. And, to have dressed him in a way they didnt' know him wouldn't make sense for them either.

A lot of people see it that way.  Once you are dead - your body rots unless otherwise preserved.  There is nothing left to it once the soul leaves.

And that's different for everyone.  To these parents, treating the body with respect may simply mean treating it the way it was born.

So, let's hope that the ones paying for YOUR funeral don't disrespect your Christian wishes and bury you in a manner not respectful of them.no

I don't care. My body is only a vessel. My soul was bought by the Blood of Jesus Christ. The very second I die, I will behold the face of my Savior. I don't care what you do to my body. Burn it, paint it, put it through a wood chipper and spread me among the compost.

I will be in Heaven.

I have asked that I be buried barefoot. But if not, how will I know?

They had no way of knowing how her "family" was going to act.

If they REALLY were her friends?  Sure they would.

The ones paying for the funeral get to choose.

This was a man. He was born a man. Nothing ever changed that. They buried him as a man.

One thing you cant change is basic genetic facts. And this was a man.

If he wanted something different then he should have made those arrangements before hand.

I have no problem with what his family did.

She won't care.  Neither would I.  My body is not me.  I really don't care what my kids do to my body.

But that's not the point. Her friends were shocked to see the body dressed as a male, when they went to pay their respects.

flan

So?  They weren't family and they weren't paying for it.

No, but apparently they were closer than family because they accepted her.

flan

Not close enough that she designated them as the ones to make decisions for her.

SO?  He knew that his family disapproved of his lifestyle.  He should have been more prudent and designated someone else to take care of his business.

As anyone can at any time.  You know that.

He was handled respectfully.

He was properly laid to rest.

If he wanted something different, he should have made arrangements.

The suddenly and young arguments are silly. Once a person becomes aware that life is a gift and can be taken at any point, they need to make the arrangements for their funeral.

Many people are convinced of their own invincibility well up into their 40's or 50's. Yes, they know that they will die, eventually, but they believe that it's not possible for a young death to be their fate. Are they wrong with their belief that it's impossible? Sure they are. Anything is possible. That doesn't change their belief, and they make their preparations according to their beliefs.

Then they get what they get.  If they don't legally designate otherwise, the next of kin gets the body and it's their decision what happens from there.
