Even though he was not indicted by the grand jury, the officer involved in the Michael Brown shooting in Ferguson, MO, is leaving the police force. His lawyer says he will never be a policeman, again.
This happens quite a bit in such situations--maybe not a majority of the time, but enough that it isn't uncommon. His career, at least that career, is over.

Well, I could agree with you--but then we'd both be wrong.
He could go to a different department in some small, lily-white, Midwestern town that wouldn't give a rat's ass what he did. It just isn't that easy to kill someone and then just go back to work.

That and he doesn't want to have to live his life constantly looking behind him. Though he probably will anyway. I have seen some liberal posters (on other boards) actually advocate killing him or his family.

I've seen surgeons do it many, many times.

Well if he can move on, there are a lot of things he can do; work with security, consult with other cities to help their PD train officers for these types of situations, advocate for fixing the lack of respect for police there is out there. Lots of stuff.

Of course--anyone can change careers for any reason, but be honest, had this not happened, he'd still be a policeman and probably on that police force 6 months or a year from now, possibly even YEARS from now.

Because there is so much data on the career paths of individuals who kill someone on the job which results in an international incident and a race riot?

There is quite a bit on officers who kill someone, especially a young kid--even in the most favorable light--and how often they leave the force. It's not easy to deal with and it ends many careers. Not all, maybe not even most--but many.

A flock of flirting flamingos is pure, passionate, pink pandemonium-a frenetic flamingle-mangle-a discordant discotheque of delirious dancing, flamboyant feathers, and flamingo lingo.
I was thinking more along the lines of overly optimistic.
