So today was semi sucky. I just wish my coworkers would act their age instead of acting like spoiled 14 year olds.

That's not the butt crack of dawn! Dern daylight by then. But I will give you credit for getting up at a decent hour.

It was early!!!! And I didn't even NEED to be up. So I filled my time online shopping! Yeah. SS is all shopped for. I'm bummed though because I just got an email that his Lego Fire Station is on back order. I hope it shows up.

We have finished the majority of it. We still have to do a bunch of it for DS. Want to hear my total shopping fail story?

I had DS with me today when I went to the store. I was going to pick up two dvd's he wanted for Christmas. I managed to send him off on an errand while I got the movies. My plan was to start checking out and then send him to fetch me a Coke. So I tell him, Run get me a Coke... He turns around and says Here you go. There's one right here. Sigh. Fail. I had to send him away. Twice.

I kinda had to tell him! But he was good about it. He has no idea what it was. I had the cart loaded down with toys for Toys for Tots. I bought three Candylands, three Barbies, and a Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head.

I usually do three Barbie's, three board games, and three balls of differing varieties. Basketball or football or soccer. But the potato heads were so cute and on sale! Friday the Marines are going to be up at the store collecting gifts so we'll take the kids and the gifts up there. They usually give the kids a pencil and magnet for donating. We just want our kids to know there are kids out there who get NOTHING. So every year we do the same charity and do three gifts a piece.

I knew a lady who was a single mom and had very little money. Every Christmas she would sit down with her kids and they would figure out what they had to spend on Christmas and then they would spend half on people less fortunate.

 Wow, that's amazing.

I think it's easy to get overwhelmed at Christmas.  There are so many needy people and so many organizations begging for help.  I know our local tv station here runs a program called The Twelve Days of Christmas and every day they show a needy family and ask for donations.  Each day the story gets to be more of a sob story.  It becomes really easy to NOT care because there's so much asking.  I think it's important to sit down and look at your budget and see what you can afford, do some research, and pick a charity where you know you will be doing the most good.  Then stick to your budget and donate.  Don't be swayed by all the emotion.  When others come to us and ask for donations we simply say "We gave already."  It's not necessary to explain to whom and how much.
