Need party food ideas
Permalink

Once again it is time to host the youth Christmas party at church.

I need finger foods, appetizers and munchies for about 30. It will be between Christmas services and it needs to be lunch and such for the whole afternoon.

I am pretty sure I am doing a hot chocolate bar.

Ideas for that would be great too.

It has to be simple but nice.

I did sandwiches last year but I would like to do something different this year.

Even a simple buffet type lunch.

Any ideas would e great. I will have help and wont be doing all of it myself but I have to get it all together.

Games too please.

Thanks.

I love the hollowed out loaf of bread with spinach dip. Save the inside pieces for dipping.

Mini quiche

mini ham sandwiches on Hawaiian rolls with butter

warm queso dip with tortilla chips

mini egg rolls

spinach purses

crab rangoon

taquitos

pasta salad

If you can find the Jumbo shrimp on sale BOGO that would be good too. Probably expensive if not on sale.

cupcakes & brownies for dessert

you could also set out a lunch meat & cheese & rolls station

sweet & sour meatballs in a crock pot

fruit salad

Why not a taco bar and ice cream bar to go with the hot chocolate bar you're thinking of?

Really?  Here they are party sandwiches.  My friend is serving them with her Christmas brunch.  That is actually how they came to mind.  We were talking about them on the ride home last night.

No, no. They are served at any big gathering. But they call it funeral sandwiches.

C has talked me into doing pizzas. We will still do some finger foods for them to munch on all afternoon.

30 really isn't a lot of people. I would keep it simple offering just a few items. Fruit, crackers and cheese, pinwheel sandwiches, and shrimp.

No shrimp. Some one is allergic.

They are extremely allergic. Like residue allergic. I don't want to take the chance of cross contamination.

Just my preference.

Wings. I bake a big batch of wings. Then I heat assorted sauces on the stove. Bbq , butter and garlic and maybe a hot sauce so you can make multiple kinds. Always a hit.

What taco doesn't include lettuce and tomato? Is this a real possibility?

Sorry to hear that SB. Maybe some soda crackers and ginger ale will do the trick.

SB go to bed. Don't put nothing in your stomach for tonight. Take a zantac or something like that and let your stomach settle.

I would give you one of my zofrans if I could.

Here's one you can MAKE AHEAD and freeze!
20 slices store brand square sandwich bread 12 oz cream cheese, softened 1 bunch scallions, minced, including the green part 1 small jar diced pimientos, well drained 1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese 20 slices low sodium bacon fresh black pepper pinch of salt

Trim the crusts; flatten the bread with a rolling pin; mix cream cheese, scallions, pimientos, parmesan, salt/pepper; spread on bread, and roll up. Wrap each roll with one whole strip of bacon. Wrap rolls in saran wrap (I do 4 to a package) and freeze. When ready to serve, unwrap, cut each roll into 4 pieces. Put pieces, cut side down, on a rimmed cookie sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake at 350 for 20-23 minutes..

These freeze well and can be made when cream cheese and bacon are on sale. I use regular sliced bacon, not the thick slices.

Enjoy!

Wings are too messy plus pretty pricey. You would need to supply a ton of wet ones if you serve wings. Finger foods should be "clean".

This, but with mini-drums. But that's just my prejudice against wings. My take on wings is they didn't get the chicken anywhere, and they don't get anyone else anywhere. Sort of a useless food item, with about 2 centimeters of meat on each one. Flame away, LGS. You can have all the wings, and I'll take all the drums.

I like them slathered with Ah-So sauce and baked slow for about 2 hours at a low temp.

When I mean wings, I also mean the mini drums. Usually when you get a pack of wings you get half wings and half drums. I always scoop up the drums.

Thank Momala. Those sound good.

I may try that for our family get together.

There is no oven at the church yet. It hasn't been high enough on the priority list yet.

Anyone have a good cheese ball recipe?

Buy premade bread. Cut it across and up and down. Stuff it whatever you want and bake!

I just did pepperoni and cheese for my kids. I just bought small round rolls and made individual ones. But, I might make a big one with chicken and cheese and then sprinkle with bacon and ranch dressing out of the oven for a chicken bacon ranch.

I've seen tem with different cheeses and garlic.

I think it would be great with the pizzas.

Last night, the kids loved my cucumber tree. I had a tree shaped platter and covered it in rows of cucumber slices, and then put cherry tomatoes on as ornaments. I even cut a star out of cucumber for the topper.

for games, we've done a thing where you have a team of 3-4, and decorate one of your team members as a Christmas tree. We just random stuff: construction paper, gift wrap, tissue paper, streamers. Set a time limit of 5 minutes or whatever.

Get some large pieces of poster board, some spray adhesive, and some gift wrap. Cover the poster board with gift wrap and then cut into puzzle pieces. Have team relays putting the puzzle together.

Some variation of Pin the tail on the Donkey? We've done pin the nose on Rudolph, Pin the angel (or star) on the tree. You can tape a picture or cut-out on the wall, then cover it with a piece of plastic (like for covering windows) and draw circles on the plastic indicating the "win" zones.

With pizza, I'd just do chips and veggies with various dips. Maybe something with graham crackers and toppings?

Maybe a hot dog bar? or mini wienies or meatballs? You could use a crock pot for those.
