People can do what they want but don't be blind to the risks versus benefits. You are putting your infant boy through surgery, why? Because pulling back the foreskin is too difficult to clean?
It's not "surgery". I've seen it done, twice, (and had it done once) and that's a ridiculous characterization.
It was FAR more traumatic the first time we went to cut their fingernails, or their hair.

It isnt surgery? Well there are no words for such ignorance.
That's what I said. Characterizing it as such is ignorant.

Well, I could agree with you--but then we'd both be wrong.
Circumcision IS a surgical procedure. You have to sign a consent form for it.

No way.
I've been through two of them (three if you count my own). I don't know what my parents did--but I didn't have to sign any forms. The doctor asked us if we wanted it done, and it wasn't 30 seconds later and it was done.

You signed something somewhere. Trust me. But I'm not going to argue. I'm a nurse. It's a surgical procedure. I don't really give a damn what people do one way or another. I don't care. I do know it's a surgical procedure.

I don't own my children's bodies. I'm not comfortable making changes to their bodies that can't be undone. I wouldn't tattoo my kid either. Or pierce their ears until they were old enough to say they wanted it. It's my prerogative like it's any other parents perogative.
Societal pressures are primarily why this procedure occurs, imho.

No, I did not, and neither did my wife. The doctor asked if we wanted it done, we looked at each other, said yes, and before I could even turn around, it was already done. From the time he asked us to the time it was finished it didn't take 30 seconds. There wasn't even a discussion of a form, and certainly no time to present us with one.

People who actually know something on the subject disagree with you.

It's rather like someone who never, ever, has any interest in traveling to Europe weighing in on various tourist attractions there. You can have an opinion, but it really doesn't matter because it will never, ever affect you.

I find it beyond laughable that the most vociferous opponents of this--have really ZERO vested interest in it.
I've never met a circumcised man who complained about it. LOL. But DAMN, can you imagine having to choose to do that as an adult, AFTER puberty. OUCH.
My ex had to. He had a flap of skin that grew funny and pulled when it was erect. He had to have that one little flap cut. He said it wasn't a big deal. We were married at the time.

Yeah i birthed 2 sons soooooo that was partly my decision. Wow.
But you still have no vested interest in the outcome. You neither have to live with the consequences either way, or have any direct experience doing so.

Yeah no vested interest in my sons well being. If course not.

Then why are you arguing it is such a terrible thing after puberty as an adult?

Shrug. I just know from him. I think he got four stitches. He said it wasn't painful. I know I laughed at him a lot.
I find this topic interesting because I have a MIL in Spain, a BIL in Ireland, and three cousins in Europe. They are all nurses. Whenever this conversation comes up on the board I talk to them about it. They always laugh at the Americans. No one over there does it routinely and no one is having the problems the AAP says we will have here. Their stats just don't back it up. And STD's can be prevented through condoms. DH's step mother, who is a nurse here, thinks not circumcising is hideous. HIDEOUS. It's a cultural thing people. It really is.

The research says it's MORE painful as an adult. If an adult says it's no big deal, it would be less so for an infant.

The stats do back it up. European countries have a higher level of STDs than we do. Actually, MANY other countries have higher levels of STDs than we do. Which is shocking, really, considering how sexualized this nation is.

Well, generally they don't numb infants. They say infants don't feel the pain so they just cut and be done with it. A lot of nurses won't take part in it because they say the babies cry horribly. My ex had a ton of numbing stuff and pain pills. So I'm not sure you can really compare it.

But getting it done as an infant required ZERO stitches.
The stats don't back up what you say. They use Europe as part of the comparison.

Neither one of our boys cried at all. The wailed and carried on a LOT more when we went to cut their fingernails or hair for the first time.

That is bad. It's hard to believe an actual doctor botched it since Jewish guys who are not doctors do it all the time. Hopefully he lost his license.
Nope. DH didn't want it done but his mom did so they let the doctor do it. They had to go back in at three months and operate to fix whatever they did wrong. The doctor is still practicing.

Well I guess husker can not comment on any female or mothering issues or ANY issue that doesn't directly affect his body orlife.
Um, I would suppose that my opinions on motherhood and giving birth would carry less weight than a woman's. I've been told so over and over on here, so why would it change now?
