Tuck it in, pull it up, and let's go!  It's Saturday!

We didn't get the tree up yesterday so it looks like today is it...

Wake up people! The day is half over! Getting ready to get out of the house for a bit, need to run to Walhell and then Zumba. Maybe. I dunno, have a lot to do. Clingy 'friend' wants to come by which means being stuck in the house with her 2 kids. Her husband is in the reserves and he's on drill this weekend and she doesn't like to be home alone. We only hear from her when she wants something. DD watched the kids all last week. She told DD when she asked her to babysit that she would get paid each week and then last Friday she tells her that her husband will pay her the next time he gets paid. So DD was stressing because she needs money for Christmas so I told her to send a polite text asking when she would get paid. That was Wednesday, she didn't text DD back until last night and says she will bring part of the money today and her husband will give her the rest whenever he gets paid. Both of them have good jobs and probably make three times what I do combined. I told DD don't ever let them make her think they don't have money because they do. They are just cheap.
We are almost done with them. Oh, she also invited herself, hubby, and two kids to my house for Christmas dinner and wants to contribute cupcakes. She said she will bring 2 for each person. This girl can't get along with anyone in her family so she just gloms onto other people.

Sorry for the vent, I needed that!

Mornin' gang!

Trying to finish the Christmas shopping today, and start doing the Christmas cards I was supposed to have done by now.

I have a cute pic of Little Man in his Santa's helper suit and cap, that we're putting in the cards this year.

Have a  holly jolly day.

We had a bit of an ice storm last night so no shopping for me today. Some big branches down and my car is totally covered in ice. Once I get that cleaned up I'll be too tired to shop anyway. Hope everyone has a great day!

 Ice storms are the WORST.

I'm at work...totally out of it.

Maybe more caffeine?

I made it through walhell, got the standard socks, bras, undies for DD'S stocking. Waiting for the zumba instructor to get here. No ice. It's already 54 degrees. Gonna put some lights outside when I get home.

Morning. Little Miss and I had a nice long nap and Ive showered so I feel human today!

Caffeine.... Oh my god how I'd missed caffeine. Still careful with it because I'm breast feeding but I have one cup of coffee or soda a day. It's been awesome.

Have a good day at work Flannikins!! Have fun Christmas shopping blankie and hope everyone's day is awesome. I'm going to try and figure out my maya wrap so I can join the ranks of baby wearers. I'm nervous I'm not going to do it right and have a mental image of her falling out. Maybe practice with a bag of flour first? Lol!!

You sound so happy! That cheers me up.

I saw itty bitty last night. DS had washed her hair when he got home & it was in a ponytail. I was just sitting looking at her precious face and I said, "You are beautiful."

She looked at me and said, "I know."

When I lived in Wisconsin, and my car doors were frozen shut, a friend (from Minnesota) told me to pour a bucket of hot water on the door to defrost the lock.

PROBLEM is, even if you get the door open after that, the latch will be frozen again in seconds, and the door won't latch closed.

The only thing to do then is to run the engine and the heater/defroster until the whole car is warm inside.

Or maybe carefully drive somewhere where there's a heated garage. Note that the driver's door will be open while you're (I'm) doing that.

Now I have a radiant heat attachment for the propane tank from my gas grill. Warms and dries. But, of course, I have to be careful to not burn up the car. cry

Next alternative: Stay home until the weather warms up. blankstare

Put it on the first time while you're sitting on the bed, or on a soft carpet on the floor, so she won't have far to fall, and will land on something soft.

Bag of flour sounds good too. Or maybe a squirming puppy?

Ugh. Back to back shift. Home for 8 hours, sleep for six, now back to work. No time for a shower. (well, there would be if I didn't come to TG). BUT because it's less than 12 between shifts this is all OT. And it's 10 hours of OT on top of that. Plus tomorrow is another 10 hours of OT. I will live through it for double time.

Squeakers, you will love the maya wrap! DD used one for her last two babies and wondered why she had not heard of them when she had the first three. She loved it that much.
SB, you really need to dump that user friend (I use the word friend loosely). Your DD needs to be paid now, not when it's convenient for them. I would be having a hissy fit. Gosh, people like that drive me nuts.
Tinydancer, avoid the ice!! Today is a fine day to stay home and relax.
Good morning flan, LL, ed, Blankie, IKWTDS, and NJN.

I wouldn't use a maya wrap for a brand new baby unless you know what your doing. Try a ktan or soft structured carrier. I used a ktan and moby for first 5 months, then a ring sling and now we are using an Ergo. Next on my list is a Tula.

I had a soft structured carrier. #1 loved it. I would wear him while doing chores, making dinner, etc. He always fell asleep. When they were older I could face them outwards where they could see the world. #2 didn't love it as much as #1. I remember we both wore them to a holiday party when they were a few months old. It allowed us to have our hands free. Sometimes I miss those days. Some. times.

I am taking a little time off today from the last 10 days of school to help put on the Lodge's Christmas part for the kids. I run around making sure everyone is happy and the entertainer is ready and when Santa is good to go. Three of us did all the shopping and wrapping this past Monday.

I had already bought SS's little sister a pair of elf pajama's for Christmas.  We always buy his sister a toy and an outfit for her birthday and Christmas.  I needed a toy for her.  She's four.  His cousin is two.  I found a dress for her but it's a bit big.  I think with some leggings it might look fine.  If not mom can put it away for a couple months.  Better too big than too small.

DH did some research on canning and found out our Big Lots sells canning stuff.  Here Big Lots is considered pretty ghetto.  Amazingly enough we also found out that they sell all the Bob's Red Mill gluten free mixes for next to nothing!  We bought gluten free cake mixes, cookie mixes, brownie mixes, bread mixes, pizza crust mixes, pancake mixes, and some more.  We spent about thirty dollars on them but got, I think, ten packages.  What a score.

They also had the cutest little Frozen Tea Set.  We got one each for his cousin and his sister.

We are having Subway for lunch! Yummmm......

I found this

Polenta Versus Grits: What's the Difference?

Last week I was in San Francisco and received a tip from a new friend that the grits with a poached egg at Cowgirl Creamery in the Ferry Building were a must-have. Realizing I'd just finished working on a whole grain cookbook, she grabbed my arm and asked: How are grits any different than polenta?

Both polenta and grits are made from stone-ground cornmeal, dried corn that’s ground down into smaller, coarse bits. So how do the two differ? Some people think the difference lies in geography: the Italian version is known as polenta whereas the Southern version is known as grits. Others think that polenta is made with yellow corn while grits are always made with white corn. Lucky for all of us, NPR ran a piece as part of their Kitchen Window series that clears it all up.

Anson Mills founder Glen Roberts is quoted in the piece describing the difference as he sees it: while both grits and polenta are made from stone-ground cornmeal, "Southern grits and Italian polenta are traditionally made from two vastly different types of corn. How many times it's milled and the fineness of the grind also differ. And then there's the taste and texture."

When I was researching my book months back, I wrote Robers with some questions about cornmeal and he discussed the confusion even further: Most grits in the South are traditionally made from a class of corn called dent corn whereas in Italy, most polenta is made from a class of corn called flint corn, which holds its texture better. Why do these different classes matter? Because of the different type of corn, grits can even come across as almost mushy while polenta is often more coarse and toothsome.

I think ultimately the confusion comes down to your time in the grocery store. You've got a polenta recipe or a grits recipe and you're shopping  for it and you see nothing in the store that says "grits" and perhaps nothing in the store that indicates "polenta." That's because you're really searching for stone-ground coarse cornmeal and this is where it becomes tricky.

But in reality, the differences are relatively slim. Buy coarse cornmeal at the store and call it a day. And if you're out on the town and you like polenta, try ordering grits next time (and vice versa). And yes, those morning grits with a poached egg at Cowgirl Creamery really are worth a trip.

I love grits too. I've never had Polenta. I saw some at the store yesterday in the gluten free stuff. Should have gotten some. We got a gluten free white cake mix, SS hates chocolate, and I need to make elf on the shelf cupcakes. I have SO MANY elf on the shelf ideas and not enough time. DH just bought him a pet reindeer. The reindeer is going to make his appearance tonight with an elf on the shelf Christmas ornament since we are putting up the tree!

Would you please recommend a red wine to use?
