I'm tired but I have clean laundry all over my bed. If I don't put it up the cats will lay on it and I will have to wash it again.

It is a thing for cutting out letters and such for scrap booking mostly. We are getting it for my mom to use at school for bulletin boards and displays

Wow! For real?

Here is the main reason I ask:

My dad is getting this for my mom. I thought it was like $190 dollars. I showed him the page on Hobby Lobby's site - which has the price. But I really think I told him it was $190. I looked at the confirmation email I just got and that's when I saw the price. Now, I know my dad will not care about the price. He just wants to give my mom something fun for Christmas - and he probably won't even notice the difference. I'm just the type that has to be all squirmy about things

There are indeed different versions of the Cricut machine.  There is the Cricut Explore, the Cricut Expression 2, and the regular Cricut Expression.  If you bought the regular Cricut Expression - you paid too much, but I'm thinking you bought the newer Cricut Explore.  And there are just basically new features in each newer model.   There are also a couple of small models - the original Cricut and the Cricut Create.  I've had the original Cricut for years, and I'm getting the regular Cricut Expression for Christmas - I don't need to fancy.  I think DH paid about $140 on sale for my new one.

OK - just re-read this.  Yes, I think you paid too much.  Especially right now.  They are on sale everywhere, and you basically paid full MSRP.  You should have paid around $180-$210 and likely could have found bundles with added value.

You got the 2nd highest version, though.  Only the Cricut Explore does more.

Well crap. The only other one I found was the one on the Walmart site. And as I said, I don't know if that's a "good" one or not. I am going to have to order it, I'm sure. We don't have any craft stores around here. Where should I look to order one then?

here is the one at Walmart

If she's just doing letters and stuff for a bulletin board, the regular Cricut expression is more than sufficient but go ahead and get the Cricut Expression 2 from Walmart for the $186.  That's a good price.

I did Ed, thanks. I just don't know the difference between them.

I can't cancel the order from Hobby Lobby. I have to wait for it to come and then return it. Annoying. My dad has already left for the week, so I think I'll just order the one from Walmart on my credit card and he can pay me back. I'm antsy to make sure I don't miss the sale price it has listed.

I think it's a great gift for a teacher. DH didn't understand what it was for, but since I started pulling it out for all DD10's school projects, he appreciates it, too. Makes things so much faster and nicer looking, and DD10 can use my basic Cricut by herself. But he's getting me the new one b/c of the cutting size limitations of the original one.

My cousin has one. She was using it to make signs for her wedding when I was there helping. She suggested it would be good for my mom. They have a thing to cut out letters, but there is no variation to the letters, they are all one size only. And it's manual, which is a pain, especially since it's getting old and the edges are dulling so the cuts aren't as nice as they used to be.

Cousin (L) was having a rough day with all the wedding prep and the machine was giving her a problem. Her brother gets there and sees me sitting on the floor with the thing

Cousin J: hey DG, what's that?
Me: a cricket
Cousin J: what's that?
Me: apparently it's a thing you type into, L yells at and maybe cuts out some letters, then makes L swear
Cousin J: well, ok then

You buy cartridges to get different type letters.  With the Expression 2, she should also be able to get digital images downloaded.  But - I have cartridges.  The cartridges will work in all the machines.

You can get a couple of font cartridges that vary.  For a teacher, you might want the chalkboard cartridge.

OMG LL!!

I ordered the pink one. You just saved us $138.45! There is a free shipping code for the Cricut website. And it works for any level of shipping. So I got the priority shipping for free - $62 dollars saved and have it in 4 days instead of 8-10

I never thought I'd say this, but Walmart was more customer friendly today. I was able to cancel my order with 1 click and no hassle.

I was also slightly annoyed with my credit card, it got denied, I got a text message to confirm it was me. I tried again, still denied. Grr. I went upstairs to get my other card. When I went to put that card in, I realized I had the expiration date wrong. Doh

We worry.  She's 87.  Not exactly a spring chicken.  She's been falling more and more over the last year or so.  They did a cat scan and said she would be fine.

Yeah, that falling thing can be deadly. We pretty much hold gramma hostage all winter and dont let her go outside but falls happen indoors too. I'm offering up positive thoughts for you.

and the first time it was declined, it was the card. I got a text to confirm if I was making the purchase.  I replied and got a second text that said to have the merchant try again.  After that, it was me wink

DG -your cousin can buy replacement blades and it will cut as good as new. Also, your cousin can buy different fonts on cartridges. Sounds like she needs to read the manual. Lol

DD got one from us her freshman year in college. She said it was more valuable to her than most of her text books. Her classes were project heavy and she used it constantly. Even rented it out to others for a fee. It make things look SO much more professional.

It's the school my mom works at that has the old janky thing. It's called an Ellison machine. You manually cut the letters out with some forms. I know they could probably get new letters and such, but her school doesn't have money for that kind of stuff. So my dad buys it 😀

Yes, there are quite a few items that are consumable items for the Cricut - the mats, the blades, and the markers.  (You can substitute a marker for the blade and it will draw the shape for you rather than cut it). Plus, she'll need pretty paper, and vinyl for wall sayings!  There are all sorts of ways to spend money with a Cricut.

Construction paper is really thin and tears very easily - I don't know that it would even survive being put on and taken off the cutting mat (that is a little sticky to hold it in place) so I would say no.  ANY other paper would be better.  Cardstock is best.  You can get inexpensive packs of all colors whenever Michaels or Joann's have a sale - like 4 packs for $10 kind of thing.
