I am so, so thankful I live where it doesn't snow and doesn't get icy. It gets cold enough to cause puddles of water on the sidewalk to freeze but none of that black ice stuff. It graupeled here in February of last year. That was exciting! Biggest news story of the week too. The news described it as a mix of snow and hail.
The view from our patio ...
Spoiler
And a close up of the graupel in my hands ... which got balled up and thrown at DH :P Graupel ball fight!
Graupel is precipitation that forms when supercooled droplets of water are collected and freeze on a falling snowflake, forming a 2–5 mm (0.079–0.197 in) ball of rime. The term graupel comes from the German language.

So, I was thinking maybe whoever starts the daily thread each day should give us a new, obscure vocabulary word. That way, starting the daily is about more than who's awake first!
What do you think - fun or PITA?

Here, we just call that sleet. DH will commit me if I start calling it graupel or he will think I want scrapple (never going to happen).

I thought sleet was wetter. Isn't graupel closer to hail?

That's what the news called it :) I had never heard that word before that day.
I called it frickin' freezing!
It was weird wasn't it? Fox 10 did graupel education for 2 days! We had graupel up against the fence for 2 days.
It was! White stuff is NOT supposed to fall from the sky in this area!
If I remember correctly, parts of the 101 running through Scottsdale got hit real hard.
Yes. We had it up against the tires, on the porch, etc. I thought our area got hit the hardest. Aren't you and I only 2 or 3 miles apart? Of course the weather changes from the 101 to the 60 quite a bit!

Lesson learned in February: I don't have to keep up, I just have to keep moving!

Too early in the morning to be smart.

And I am home. Left early, had to since I went in late. LIFO! It's horrendous out there, just shy of hurricane force winds. Pouring, but 37 so not icy.

It was 65 here today and sunny. Left the windows open...

Got off work only slightly late tonight. My mom is out with her friends. So I am already nesting on the couch with take-out. Hoping to get a second wind later to make the stockings for work that I meant to do like a week ago
