Years ago I had a Visioneer scanner with Paperport software, which I loved and used a lot.
.pdf (Acrobat) was fairly new and software to create .pdf files was not cheap.
So I saved all my scanned documents in Paperport ... as .max files.
I was looking through files from long-gone computers, found my old scanned document folders, and decided I might want or need to actually access something from there. Maybe.
So the challenge became, how can I open " .max " files?
My old Paperport software won't work with newer versions of Windows (I'm using Windows 7 now), and wouldn't install anyway without plugging in a Visioneer scanner.
So I went looking for new versions of Paperport. Should be able to open the old .max files, right?
Not so fast ...
The reviews and user comments said "no". ONE reviewer said it (version 14) should be able to open the files, but ONLY for viewing, but while it will happily convert Word and Excel files into .pdf files, and do several other nifty things, it won't convert .max into .pdf.
Sooo
I invested (gambled) $30 in the hope that it would be helpful.
It's not in the instructions, but I found a way to open the .max files for viewing... Then I found a "print" icon. But I certainly don't want all these things on PAPER.
Fortunately, I have a couple of programs installed as printers, that change the print job into .pdf files.
WIN!!!
