When I graduated HS and college, the school colors were used for the color of the graduation gowns. The girls typically wore the lighter color and boys the darker. And now all our gender confused kids have an issue with that.
Debate over graduation gowns underway at Franklin High School

FRANKLIN, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- A dispute over graduation gowns has begun at Franklin High School.
At issue is whether all students should wear the same color robes so others aren't discriminated against.
At the high school's graduation ceremony, it has been a long running tradition for boys to wear blue gowns and for girls to wear white. But that tradition is changing
"There will be a change, I think," said Peter Light, the school's principal. "We have yet to determine what that change looks like."
The call for change started when members of the school's Gay Student Alliance organization became concerned with transgender students and gender equality.
Principal Light is leaving it to the student government to decide what to do. Watch the video above to see students discuss both sides of the debate.
Light said whatever decision will be made is not just for the class of 2015, but a permanent decision.
Several solutions are being discussed, and though it is early in the process, a final decision will be made in the next two months, because graduation gowns need to be ordered.

When I graduated, the girls wore white and the boys wore royal blue.
When C graduated, from the same school, everyone wore blue.
Now, I will say that when I graduated I really wish I could have worn the blue. But that is because we had to have an all white dress and those were hard to find.
This busy of trying to please everyone is getting ridiculous.
Like the saying goes.
You can please some of the people all of the time.
All of the people some of the time.
But you cant please all the people all the time.

Wear whatever color you want. Then neither color is for any gender. Just make them the school colors and let them pick whichever one they want.
This is a great idea. Have a lottery since half the gowns need to be one color and the other half the other color. Odds get one color even get the other. Problem solved! Wow TD, that is awesome.

We all wore black with a colored shawl type thing in blue which was our main school color. I don't remember being confused.

One color is what my kids had...one color for everyone. Get the fvck over it...
DS1 as well. They all wore the same color.

I wish we would have had one color. Like Lily, girls wore white. Finding an all white dress is a PITA.
DD wore gold and boys wore crimson. The gold was hideous. The gowns were rented though, so at least I didn't have to buy it.
DD2 will wear a white dress identical to all the other girls in her class. They have a company come measure and custom make identical gowns for all the girls. It's a tradition. It's kind of nice because they are modest dresses and that leaves all the fighting out of it! The boys wear tan pants, navy blue blazer with gold buttons and the school crest on the breast with a white shirt and the school tie. It's a nice outfit, but it's the only time they wear it!

Best comment of the day! You win!!
Today emotionally traumatized me. I realize life in general has offended me. I'd like to go to bed now and it's only a quarter after seven. For me, that says a lot.

I like and agree with this. Or, as some mentioned, just go with a single color. Graduation robes should not be that big of an issue.

Then you'll have people complaining about what color was chosen and what it means. It's getting ridiculous!
How about if you are transgender and being a boy, then wear the blue one. I don't see what the big freaking deal it. This is only going to affect a tiny group of people. Perhaps just ask the tiny percent of kids affected what they want. It could be a reasonable request.
If these people are having such a hard time with something like this they just need to give up and die because the reality of life is this is not even a blip on the life radar screen in the big picture. There is going to be REAL problems and REAL issues to worry about.

Do away with the stupid gowns. It's an added cost anyway. Just do away with it.
And the diplomas are mailed after the graduation anyway.
It's a 2 hour event that is more for the show of it than anything.
I have two more to go through. And then the college graduations. Geez. it never ends.

Is it really that much of a drag to celebrate life events ? And just because you want to do away with gowns doesnt mean the rest if us do. Graduaing is a big deal to those kids.
Do you know what those gowns are for? They are to make everyone look nice. To cover up what they are wearing for those who don't have.
Same with Choir robes.
The graduation can happen without the robes.
And having to sit through them, while I will do it with a smile, is not my favorite way to pass a Saturday.

Our kids got their diplomas at the ceremony.
Ours don't. The little board they get has a fake one that is in everyone. It tells you that the diploma will be mailed in two weeks.
