Keurig for Honey's Mom!!!

Backstory:  My dad's recent hospitalization involved a co-payment of $500 for an SNF which was never used;  I've been fighting with the organization for months and getting the runaround.  Today we FINALLY received his $500 check in the mail.  I showed it to him and told him I would be depositing it in his account on Monday.

GUESS WHAT HE TOLD ME TO DO!!!?!

"Sweetheart, take whatever you need from it and go buy yourself one of those fancy coffee makers you've been wanting - Merry Christmas!"

I've wanted a Keurig or Keurig-like single cup coffee maker forever, the ones where you buy those little single-cup thingies to put in it.  Please help me out here, Geeks!  What should I buy?  What brand and/model is good?  I have about $150 in mind...

Do you want it to have a clock and come on automatically? What about setting cup size?

Just get yourself the Keurig Elite brewer, you should be able to get it for $120 or less right now around Christmas.   Unless you occasionally need to brew bigger pots for other people, then the NEWEST Keurig can brew single cup or small pot.  That one will be a bit more.

If you go on the website for keurig you might be able to get a good deal.

SB, no clock or automatic brewing necessary...  I like a big cup of coffee but actually didn't know there were different sizes...

FWM, that looks nice!  Probably more than little ol' me needs, cause dad doesn't drink coffee.  The link brought up others that might be just the ticket.

Anybody have other pros and/or cons for me?  I'm just a babe in the Keurig woods, lol. biggrin

I have the elite. Love it. If your keurig doesn't come with a filter be sure to use filtered water.

If you are a coffee snob you may not like it. I'm not picky, it's good for me.

Get a K-cup machine. We did the Vue and it's hard to get cups locally, we mostly order online.

I buy my kcups online mostly. If you register you get member pricing. I also grab some when they are a good deal in the stores.

I'd suggest one where you can use a permanent "cup" and fill it yourself! Much less expensive, and you have more choices of flavors/strengths.

This is the one we have, in black. It says $120 but we paid $89 for our first one on sale somewhere and last year we paid $99 at Sam's for one for SS's mom. Shop around. And check out online coupons. This one is all we need. We discussed getting the pot one but then we decided it defeated the purpose of having a fresh cup of coffee. We get our cups at either Sam's or Wal-Mart. We also have about ten of those reusable cups that you can put grounds in and then wash. They're really good if you're going to drink a lot of coffee and want to save money. You can also use them for loose tea. We love our Keurig and wouldn't trade it for anything.

It looks like Target has a good deal on that one.

$99, free shipping, and a $20 gift card if you buy one.

That seems really good!

Good luck, Honeys!

Yep, we love this model. Order it from Target. That's a really good deal. We got ours on Black Friday when it first came out for that much. Don't pay more than that for one though.

Oh, and if you order it through Target, when you get to the paying stage it will ask you if you have a promo code. Type in TGTWDHM6 and that will get you an additional $5 dollars off. So, you'll get it for $94, free shipping, and a $20 gift card. The code works. I used it the other day on DH's gift. You can't beat that price. I'd snap it up!

Make sure you get one with different cup size settings or else you will get very small cups of coffee. K-cups are sold almost everywhere! I go to the butcher and can buy 24 mix/match for 12.99 . Better deal than the big box stores since I can get a variety. I use them for the office.

Just an FYI for anyone ordering from Target. That code will work for $5 off any order of $50 or more. One per transaction. Since shipping is free it's no big deal to make two orders. I think we've made three orders lately and used the code each time. It has worked. You just have to look for sales.

It is a fabulous deal!  That would basically put it down to $74 and I've NEVER seen one of that model for that low.  Incredible deal.  I tried to talk DH into getting us a spare but he said no.  no

Got to thinking, some of our Geeks might wonder by the total if I forgot the $5 off promo - not true! There was $6.09 in tax.

Gloria Jeans Butter Toffee is my favorite. I suggest buying sample packs so you can try a variety of flavors to find the ones you like best.

When you go to the keurig website a lot of the k-cups can be bought in boxes of 5.

I bought DH one last year. He loves it!

I didn't know that, SB. I'll check it out.

Yay! You got it! I love my keurig . . . and I have the basic one! One cup at a time, have to pour in water each time. But there is something about pressing a button and having coffee come out instantly. It's like a rat in an experiment!

Last year I bought that model for $40 of a FB yard sale site at work.  I use it at work.  It was nearly brand new.  Today, off the same site, I bought the Mini for $25, hardly used.  I don't know what I am going to do with the mini, but it was a steal so I pounced!

I ordered one of those stainless baskets so I can use whatever coffee I want to and not have to buy as many K cups.  I like using the K cups, though...it's kind of fun!
