I was going through SS's backpack the other day and he had a letter home about their "Christmas" party.  So as not to offend anyone they're no longer doing a "Christmas" party.  They are a doing an end of school breakfast.  What they want to do is feed the kids breakfast.  They have asked the parents to sign up to bring the things they want at the party.  Here is some of the list.  You have two bring TWO DOZEN of everything you buy.

Kolache

Donuts

Yogurt cups

Bacon

Sausage

Breakfast tacos

Breakfast burritos

Breakfast pizzas

Drink boxes

Forks, spoons, knives, and napkins, and paper plates.

And the list goes on.

I bought SS two dozen yogurt covered raisins and thought that was pretty decent.  I can't see spending that much money feeding all those kids.  It just seems like that's an awful lot of food for each kid.  It seems a bit unreasonable.  I mean if they gave each kid one thing it would mean they would each get a donut, kolache, yogurt, two pieces of bacon, two pieces of sausage, a breakfast taco, a breakfast burrito, and a drink box.  That's a ton of food.

It's a sausage wrapped in bread dough. Kind of like a pig in a blanket. Basically the same thing.

No it's not the same thing.  But that's the best way I know how to describe it.

Oh, I hear you!

It's not your fault. It's the stupid bakeries down here, who don't have a clue!

A "pig in the blanket", would be a better term for them.

Why Texans call that Kolache, is beyond me.wink

They are only asking each kid to bring two dozen of one item.

There will be a ton of donuts and plastic/paper ware and nothing else.

I don't see why they cant just have breakfast in the cafeteria and maybe spend the day watching a movie and playing and maybe do pizza for lunch.

I do agree that it seems like a lot of food. And there are those who wont send anything.

When my kids were in elementary school, they had a "put the year to rest" the last day of school.

The kids wore their PJs and they watched movies, had snacks and played games.

And they always get out at noon.

Lily makes a good point, there will be kids who bring nothing.

I would hope someone would be coordinating this, and that they have a destination set up for any excess food. Maybe a food bank or a children's shelter.

If they get everything they ask for, which they most likely will, it's a ton of food for nine years for breakfast. They had a long long list like fruit cups and cheese sticks. Everything has to be food items. I just thought that it was a lot. SS eats a lot and wouldn't even eat all that. Plus, I hate when they "demand" stuff. The only reason I even bought something is because SS's mom has never ever contributed. I feel kind of bad. So I bought the little sealed boxes of yogurt raisins.

The kids will probably be able to choose what they want.

The rest will go to the teachers and other school workers and their party.

I bet plenty of kids won't bring. I know that is what would happen to here.

When my sister's kids were in school the county made a new rule that anything brought in for a party could not be home made. It was due to the fact that no one knows the cleanliness of a private kitchen.

We have the same rule but I don't think they follow it. In fact, SS's mom made him a cake that DH and I brought to school last year. No one said anything. There is no way I would pay for two dozen breakfast burritos.

I think they are 2 for a dollar at McDonalds.

$12 plus tax isn't bad.

Do you consider "donuts" real food?

Egg beaters, sausage and cheese wrapped in tortilla. You cant really mess up breakfast.

You know, Chick-fil-A will cater breakfast. Chicken biscuits and sausage biscuits and if I remember they will do the waffle fries too. It really isn't a whole lot. Maybe suggest that next year.

They bring it out and set it up and clean it up and they may even bring the cow.

And donuts are real food. Yummy clouds of sweet goodness. Hot donuts will actually melt in you mouth.

Well, WE don't usually buy stuff for parties.  Mostly because he's not with us enough for us to know when they're going on.  We've had him a lot lately and I DO know that his mom has never contributed anything.  I know because he sometimes asks me if I'll buy him stuff for school.  So I bought the raisins.

My maternal grandmother made kolaches every Christmas, and they definitely are not "pigs in a blanket."

Kolaches that my mother makes are like round buns with a fruity filling.
Nothing at all like pigs in a blanket.

I'm just so happy that Baby J's class gave us the option of sending in $5 towards a chicken nugget tray from Chik-fil-a. So much easier.

 That's what I remember, too.

DGMA always used the same 3 fillings: apricot, strawberry & PRUNE!

Nobody ever ate the prune ones, but that didn't stop her!

I was always asked to bring in food for parties. They are probably asking for 2 dozen because more than half the kids won't bring anything...

Yes, they have fruit ones here too. But Texans are meat eaters so I guess they screwed around with the recipe till they bastardized it and found a way to put meat in it. We have a famous Czech Stop not far from here that makes delicious fruit ones. They also do pies, breads, and the ever famous pig in a blanket.
