Its the not the movie that will loose money per say.  Its the fact that Sony is down and loosing money daily because of this hack.  Over all they are going to be out tons of cash, and that usually leads to lay offs.

Latest update:
Yes, this movie is going to LOSE money. Carmike has decided not to show the movie for the time being. They may later, but it won't be until after the first of the year, and most likely, not at all...

Well, it seems that some private companies like movie theater chains do take cyber threats and bomb threats seriously, and are not willing risk their employees and patrons on principle.

And now we are bowing down to terrorism.
I'm sorry this is effecting you personally, ohfour. But I am looking at the bigger picture, as in world picture. We are suddenly extremely weak as a nation and as a people.
I see nothing good coming for this whole cyber hack job. The people of the USA are now living in fear and bowing down to it. A sad day in history, IMHO.  no

These are private businesses making the decision not to put people at risk.  The government has nothing to do with this.  I cannot imagine being the one that decides to run this movie on principle so as not to bow down to terrorists, and then the theater gets blown up.

It would be different if nothing had been done to provoke it - but we know that is not the case.

IMHO, the people and business's reflect the weakness of our government. We, as a people, no longer have a backbone.

I flew on a plane shortly after 9/11 with 9 students in my care. People were aghast that I would put myself, my son and other kids at risk. I choose not to be controlled by the possibility of a terrorist attack. So did the other parents.

Fear is a choice.

The movie got a 1.5 star rating out of 5.

I don't know if that was just a trailer, or if the movie's actually out.

Totally different.  There was no immanent threat.  They didn't SAY anything was going to happen. This is a direct threat to direct buildings.  Building that do not have the security measures the airports have.

Carmike has made a business decision.  There are plenty of other good movies to see that week.  We will be seeing American Sniper on Christmas Day.

 So is prudence and safety.

Oh yeah - and not insulting world leaders by making a movie about all the different ways to kill them.  I think that is the part that really sticks for me - it was an unprecedented offensive decision made completely in bad taste.  It's a crime in this country to make deaths threats against our leader, so we should know better than to do it against any world leader.  And no - the crazy leader of North Korea doesn't understand satire.

This could have easily been avoided.

Yes - we DO evacuate buildings when there is a bomb threat.  I guess we should just ignore those and sit pretty when a building might blow up.

According to the news, there is no direct threat against any particular movie theater at this time. I think the intelligence community would be aware of a direct threat. Our government has been strangely silent.
IMHO, I think this is a hoax. So, flame me.

Of course there's not a threat to a particular theater.  That would be stupid.  Then they could just shut down 1 or 2.  They made it broad for a reason.

I guess I am a gambler at heart. If you know what I mean. What would be the odds?

As strictly as weapons materials are controlled in America, I think the odds are about .001%.

Good grief, they even monitor who buys pressure cookers now.

I know what you mean Czech. I think the theaters are just trying to make money. There MAY BE (I'm obviously not one of them) many people that would not go to a theater that is showing this movie, out of fear. That's lost revenue. I think their thinking is to just not show it and they wont be considered a target so the masses will still come. KWIM?

Yeah, I know what you mean. Cost effective as well. Why loose a whole industry over ONE movie.

I still don't like the precedent being set.

Hey, let's make a movie that will seriously offend a nuke-wielding, power hungry, megalomaniac world leader! One who has already threatened to bomb our country! What a great idea!
What a pack of idiots. Put the whole nation at risk in the name of comedy. How amusing.

Exactly!  They were rude, offensive and WRONG.  But nobody seems to care b/c Kim is a "nuke-wielding, power hungry, megaomaniac" that nobody likes.  If this was made abou the Queen or Obama - it would be ON.

I wouldn't care one bit if they did. Really, who gives a cRap what another country films. Can you name a famous foreign film? How about a famous foreign political film of recent date?

You can't.

We don't watch foreign films. They (the world) watches ours.

Which is exactly why we need to be better.  This movie was beneath us.  I'm ashamed of it.  And that pisses me off.

You can't.

We don't watch foreign films. They (the world) watches ours.

Which is exactly why we need to be better.  This movie was beneath us.  I'm ashamed of it.  And that pisses me off.

No, we don't need to be better, we are already the best the world has to offer. The world clambers to our doors, not the other way around. The world does not get to dictate what our FREE culture produces for humor. We still have freedom of speech. Well...we did, until this week.

No, we are not. Other countries, whether widely released or not, have not made movies about the many varied ways to kill a world leader. And freedom of speech does NOT include freedom from consequences of that speech.

People keep throwing around "freedom of speech", blah blah - this is NOT a government issue - our constitutional rights are not in question. This is about being stupid and offensive and knowing when you have been. When someone uses their constitutional rights to be ASSININE, there are going to be repercussions.

Hey, let's make a movie that will seriously offend a nuke-wielding, power hungry, megalomaniac world leader! One who has already threatened to bomb our country! What a great idea!
What a pack of idiots. Put the whole nation at risk in the name of comedy. How amusing.

Hmm, no offense, but I thought WE were suppose to be the dominating culture of the world, not the terrorists.

So? It was stupid, and offensive, and this sort of stupidity is unbelivable. Why is anyone defending it? I would be upset if another country made such  movie about Obama, or Even Bush.

Exactly!  They were rude, offensive and WRONG.  But nobody seems to care b/c Kim is a "nuke-wielding, power hungry, megaomaniac" that nobody likes.  If this was made abou the Queen or Obama - it would be ON

I wouldn't care one bit if they did. Really, who gives a cRap what another country films. Can you name a famous foreign film? How about a famous foreign political film of recent date?

You can't.

We DO have freedom of speech.  Seth Rogan isn't being thrown in jail.  Just because we have freedom here, doesn't mean that other countries aren't going to be pissed off and retaliate.  They don't give one schit about our freedoms...

And trust me. We've been seen as "weak" from the day Obama took office. This doesn't make a hill of difference. We have become the laughing stock of the world...

Exactly. And that is exactly why terrorists are infringing on our cultural rights. They will continue to dictate "their rules" until we say NO. That is the consequences of becoming a weak nation.

Yeah, LL, your right. There are consequences for every behavior, including not having a backbone.

When you are just as much to blame - that's not a backbone, that's stupid stubbornness and hubris.

He best not travel to North Korea, though.  They will kill him, there.  Our freedoms only extend to our borders.
