Winter solstice occurs late this evening.  That means that the days will be getting longer!  Yay!

Always look forward to that, but cannot understand why although the days get longer, but they get colder. Would think the sun shining longer would warm it up, but it is the same every year.....

The path of the Earth around the Sun is not actually a circle. It's an oval.

At this point in the year, the Earth is getting farther from the Sun, so we will be getting a bit less heat from the sun for the next 6 months.

And the Earth's equator does not point directly at the sun, for the next few months the southern hemisphere is pointed more toward the sun than we are here in the northern hemisphere.

I hope there's an astronomy expert here who can explain this better.

Right after Christmas I begin counting down to Spring. I am worse than a kid at Christmas when it comes to Spring. Love, love, love it.

Hope everyone has a great day.

Better pay attention to those temps in central Florida. Things freeze there in Winter.

My brother and nephew are talking in the den. They have not shut up all morning.

Niece is with C. C doesn't come home on Sundays. She spends it with her friends and her boyfriend. They go out to eat and shop and whatever else. Today they are all going to exchange their Christmas gifts. Niece doesn't have any money and she will get no gift. What gets me is the no money part. C will have to provide for her today. Every once in a while is no big deal, but every single time? But I have told C to make Niece get money from her dad. When C gets tired of it she will say something and I promise it wont be pretty.

"Christmas is coming the goose is getting fat,
Please put a penny in the old man's hat.
If you haven't got a penny, a half penny will do,
If you haven't got a half penny then God bless you!"

Yep. Gonna be a musical Christmas around here.

Blessed quiet. Everyone is gone but me and my boys. Gonna have a pizza and just enjoy it.

I have to make a decisions on this weeks menu and make a list. I will wait till tomorrow to go to the store. Hopefully there will be fewer people out and about in the morning.

Well I know there will still be people working so 9 in the morning will be better than 3 in the afternoon. That is my reasoning.

Having pizza now myself.

I am not getting pizza for 9 people every single day this week.

I have to have breakfast, lunch and dinner for all these people. Brother doesn't know it yet, but he is going to do at least two meals while here. He will buy it, prepare it, and clean it up.

Sorry, you are not house guests. You are living here. You will pitch in. You and your kids.

"Jingle bells. Jingle bells, Jingle all the way..."

I don't make a lot of waves, cause really, what's the point. It is usually a sum total of 36 hours at the most and it is over with.

But a week with anyone in your house is a lot.

I am seriously thinking about taking off to the mountains with my kids till Christmas eve. Maybe stay at that awesome waterpark in Sevierville.

I think LL went. Didn't she?

I wonder if it would be really fun for teens or is more for little kids.

Who invited everyone?  Why are you responsible for buying food for them all?  If your parents invited them then they need to plan and pay for all this.  I don't understand why you're expected to plan and pay for it all.  Unless that was a deal you agreed to.  And if so then that's what you agreed to and you just need to do it.  The whole thing sounds crazy.  Whenever we visit people we don't expect them to feed us every meal.  We take them out a meal or two, order take out a time or two, and they will feed us some.  Something doesn't sound right about all this.

Maybe the driver didn't forget them, maybe the driver ATE them.

Well, if Lily is agreeing to it or not saying anything then it's her fault.  I don't understand why Lily is expected to pay for everything.  This wouldn't float in my house.  No way.  If we had a crowd of people DH would be bringing home a bucket of chicken and I'd do sides.  Or something like that.  And breakfast would be cereal and lunch would be sandwiches.  If you didn't like it you can go out and get your own damn meals.  I don't get this at all.

Good afternoon everyone!
We enjoyed a successful shopping trip yesterday, even though we endured the crowds from hell. The drive home was terrible. 90 miles of pea soup fog. Yup, we could see exactly two yellow lines ahead. We drove at about 45 mph for 2 hours. The line of cars behind us looked like a string of Christmas lights strung out when we emerged from the fog. We thought there were only 2 cars behind us. DH said they probably hated our guts. But, no one was passing in that thick soup.
I finally finished the baby quilt for the new grandson today. What a relief to have that job done. Now I can wash it and wrap it up.
NJN, your canning looks awesome! You will enjoy the fresh taste until the last drop.
SB, hope the rest of the day is easy for you.
Flan, glad you enjoyed meeting this morning.
IKWTDS, rub it in will ya. You will have so much fun! Get packing!
I still have over half the presents to wrap. Hopefully DGD can come and help me tomorrow. We want to make a party out of it.
Not much else going on. We have church tonight and then I can settle down and enjoy the season.
Karl, DH watches for the days to lengthen, but dreads the cold of January and February.
I thought the earth was closer to the sun when the northern hemisphere was slanted away from the sun and that was why the southern hemisphere had a hotter summer than the north in general. I could well be wrong on that one though. Interesting topic.

we are having kind of a disjointed Christmas this weekend.DD and SIL arrived late Friday night. We had hilarity and great food yesterday, brother and wife came and made nice with everyone. It was great.
They (including the ex) are out at ex's best friends house, there may be offspring there or even offspring of offspring.

Who is here? me and DDs two wonderful dogs. Both ****erspaniels. very territorial, which is a challenge in this apt.
Sleeping at my feet. My dearest friend just left, he was here for a hug and did not know there was a holiday present for him. (I already got my present a week or two ago. Massive back up drive for the new computer he installed for me.
DOgs suggested having company was inappropriate today. Tough.....

Good day for me.............

Nice to hear from you, aergia.

The Sound of Music is on tv tonight! Yippee!

It's still an event for me when that is on. Love it. Christopher Plummer is so dashing,

and Julie Andrews is wonderful.

The new one was on last night, IMO can't really compare to the original movie.

Happy Solstice Night!

Have not been online since Friday.  Had a nice weekend.  Visited with friends this weekend for dinner (their turn, we take turns with dinner every Saturday) and gave them their Xmas gifts which they all loved.

Friends are going to her family's for Xmas Day, so I will be alone that day.  I have been thinking I may go out to eat, and noticing that many more restaurants are open on Xmas day than on T-Day.  Not sure about my plans for Xmas day yet.  But I did get paid last week Friday, so was finally able to complete my Xmas shopping and have a little left over to maybe dine out.  If not, I do have ramen at home.

My friend's dad doesn't seem to be doing well and is a lot more tired these days.  He is 83 and a throat cancer survivor.  After his chemo and RT, food just doesn't taste very good.  He is losing weight, and family is starting to realize that he may not be around much longer, so they are making every effort to spend holidays together, and they should.
