Let's face it...even for the honors kids...calculus is pretty useless unless you are going to major in a STEM field. Most kids know if they are a math or a science person by high school. Making all honors kids take calculus,or even pre calc is stupid.

We have brought SS lunch at his school. You couldn't pay me to eat the crap they serve. It LOOKS disgusting. Nuggets that look nasty. Apples with bad spots in them. A "fruit cup" is just processed fruit in sugary syrup. The hamburgers aren't even hamburger meat. Ketchup is considered a vegetable. And my biggest gripe is that they give them twenty minutes to shove all that food down their face. Then they immediately go outside to run around. Who wants to run around after you just ate a ton of grease and sugar.

At my kids schools they have restaurants come in and serve the food. They have soda. Pizza hut is there, Subway, Chick-fil-a, and a few others. I really wish they wouldn't do that though.

My kids won't eat the food they sell, unless it's pizza or breakfast for lunch. They prefer the lunches I pack.

I remember when they put the soda machines in schools years ago, and the schools promised they would use the money toward the schools, don't know whatever happened to that money because it didn't seem to make a difference.

Like the lottery money that's going to support the schools, every dollar that comes from sources like this DOES in fact go to the schools.

However, every dollar that goes to the schools from these sources is offset by equal cuts in support from the state legislature.

That frees up a little more money for other things in the state budget, like graft and corruption.

 Aint that the truth.

Michelle Obama has tried putting healthier foods into schools. It has been an unmitigated disaster. The kids don't want to eat it, there's not enough calories, especially for big, high school kids and especially if they play sports.

It has been one of the worst government initiatives in decades, well-intentioned as it may have been.

I don't think that her idea was a bad thing. I think the way that she went about it and the strong arming by the govt. I think the majority of parents WANT their kids to be served good, healthy food. However, we have too many quacks barking that they all listen too instead of using common sense. There is no reason kids can't eat a serving of meat, some vegetables, bread, fruit, dairy, etc. It isn't rocket science. And, there is nothing wrong with a slice of pizza but yes, when you eat 4 slices of pizza and down it with a liter of coke or whatever, that is where people get into problems. They should have let the individual school districts figure out for themselves how they want to feed their kids.

Yeah, like I said--well-intentioned, maybe, but an unmitigated disaster.
