I am thinking of using one of my Christmas gift cards to buy the 3 pot crock pot thing. it looks great for parties, family dinners etc.
My only hesitation is, some are small in size (1 qt or so) and some go up to 2.5 quarts. Some just warm, and some cook low/med/high.
I think I want the one that cooks not warms. And I think I prefer the bigger size. Does anyone have any experience with these? Does size matter? Did you get one and wish you had the other?
Thanks in advance for the help!

I have three different sized crock pots, all that cook. I love all of them and use each one frequently. The combo would be wasted on me.
Good luck making a decision.

I have 8 crock-pots and I refuse to get one of those systems. Main reason, the crocks are too small. The largest one available is the CrockPot brand one. They have the ability to have a 3.5 qt crock. Go get a bowl that is 1.5-2 quarts. That is the average size of those systems. Would that be enough? Plus, when I have a need for using something like that, I am serving a larger group who require more food. Those small crocks would need to be refilled several times.
Here is an after picture from when I served Christmas dinner a few years ago. There was another crock-pot and 2 small roasters also on the counter when all the food was out. They were turned more sideways while the food was being served. That is, in order, a 7 Qt, 6 Qt, 5 Qt Digital, 4 Qt. There was also a 2 Qt crock-pot and two 5 Qt Roasters (not shown)
I think it depends what you plan to put in it. I think the 3 crock thing looks kind of cool and for dips or appetizers you might be better off with a smaller one versus a bunch of large crockpots. I actually bought one of those for my niece for her wedding shower.

This gives me some food for thought - no pun intended. I need to seriously think about how I plan on using it and buy accordingly. Excellent advice!! Thanks!

Not quite sure of the wood for them. They came out looking darker than they really are in the picture. They are lighter than a maple but a little darker than a pine. My Grandfather built them.

Jibear I have that same 5 qt digital and I love it!!!
I just got the same one too! So far I really like it.
And I rarely use the digital part or the thermometer. The first one in the picture, the 7 qt., is my most used one.

Absolutely buy on how you would end up using it. DH & I saw them and laughed at the size. The 1.5 qt one looks like single servings compared to what we usually cook/entertain with. I just hate to see anyone buy something that is not what they want/need it to be.
RARELY, even when entertaining, do people "cook" three different things in crock pots, unless maybe you are having soup.
What I've seen the 3 pot ones for, is like keeping different dips warm, or putting little smokies in one and dips in the other two. Nacho cheese in one with a couple of dips, etc...
Only you know what you are likely to cook, but in my experience, it's rare that you will cook three things at the same time in the same way.

Well, I could agree with you--but then we'd both be wrong.
I like the 3 pot. Meatballs in one, little smokies in one and velveeta/rotel in one and I'm ready for some football!
The first time I ever saw this wonderful thing was at a la quinta inn at the continental breakfast. They had scrambled eggs in one, sausages in one and gravy in one. Awesome.

That's how I've seen them used, too. But at least in the former case, the smaller one would probably be fine.

You make a really great point here.

If you want to use one of the 3 crock ones for a meal and have a large family (or just want leftovers), you can always divide the food among the crocks rather than all of the food in one big crock.
