-16 this morning with a windchill of -40. Am I officially the biggest loser?

I didn't go out today until we got to about -5. No idea what the windchill is now. Don't much care. Cold is cold. Lol

No work today because of the frigid weather. If the school calls off, then the library is closed. I'm debating whether I should go in and get some work done that was neglected for the last 3 months or not. It's currently below zero. High today of 1 degree. Tomorrow will be a freaking heatwave compared to today - it will be in the 20's tomorrow.

Thanks! It isn't that bad...the water and Gatorade we keep on the window ledge in the kitchen are nice and chilled. As long as you stay covered, it isn't bad. Exposed skin will freeze quickly.

Schools are closed here all around Minneapolis and St Paul. Near me, it's just a 2 hour delay. Which is perfect...it isnt that cold now. Some schools in St Paul decided to stay open so the kids could go there to get warm - in case their home does not have adequate heat.

I wanted to surprise DH and stop at a Chinese place to get mu shu pork & mu shu shrimp (our fav's).

The guy told me it would be 10 minutes...sounded fair.

They were pretty busy, lots of people stopping in to pick up orders.

After 10 minutes, the guy comes out and says that they are out of vegetables and his wife has gone to the store to get some. He said it would be 5 minutes. Wife comes rushing back, and yes, I finally got my order...I lost track of how long it took.

I've never heard of running out of veggies but maybe with the bitter cold people are ordering Chinese so they don't have to go out in the cold. Or maybe there are power outages so people are ordering since they can't cook. I could go for some hot & sour soup. Love that stuff. I think they put crack in it to make it that addictive.

As far as I know, the schools here don't close for anything. If it's too hot outside, they do inside recess/PE but that's about it.

We had to use a week in 2010 for the flood. But we didn't use any snow days, so the kids got out for summer 5 days before the school year was scheduled to end.

We don't have any snow days. There are two days, that if we get an ice storm, they use them instead of the kids having off that day.

When we've gone over the 2 days, the school system applied to the state to not have to make them up.

Most northern states are allotted so many "snow days" by the state. If you go over that amount, then yes, you have to make it up. Some schools build days into the calendar - if we take too many snow days, we go to school on MLK day. If we haven't, we get the day off, etc. Some schools last year had to go longer in both hours in the day and days of the year. So they had school until 5pm for the last few months AND went extra days. The weather was BAD And a lot of schools cancelled "in case of" when they shouldn't have.

Our school has anywhere from 3-5 snow days built in. Some are built in as holiday days like an extra day after Easter, so if we've had too many snow days, they have to g on that day. In our district, everyone is bussed, some more than 20 miles, so they don't want to take chances with the little kids with a bus breaking down in the middle of nowhere. If it were just kids in town, then it wouldn't be a big deal but we have 5 communities that kids are bussed from, plus even farther rural kids.

Sometimes they'll call school off for snow, not because highways and streets are plowed, but because the gravel roads don't get plowed very quickly.

DH has another candidate in town so that means dinner at the restaurant that we like! It is hard to sell someone on a job here when it's this cold out!

Today I was at a store and removed the outdated candy. I took 144 Reese Peanut Butter Cups out of there. Guess what is DD's favorite? Lol. Good thing she works out twice a day.
