I just checked the weather...all township schools are closed again today.

There was a story about the homeless shelters being full...no surprise there, without the windchill, it's in the negative digits.

Then there was another story about a local group delivering coats, blankets, etc., to homeless who chose to stay outside. CHOSE to stay OUTSIDE in deadly cold.

I know mental illness is common among homeless people, but this hurts my heart.

Morning. Yes, the homeless are sad. I can't imagine choosing to be cold and hungry. I know one of the homeless ladies. She has a sister here but she won't stay with her because sister says no drugs in her house.

We live in Georgia, and DD10 had to wear cuddle duds under her uniform today. Sigh.

-10 and that doesn't include the windchill. School is delays, other towns have closed their schools.

Yeah, the homeless, the ones that won't come in out of the cold, are really sad.

Froid froid froid it is!

I am sad about homeless people too.  I've heard that many decline shelter because they are afraid of sleeping in an open room with strangers. It is sad.

Yup, that fits!

It's 19 here. Real feel of 11.

Better than what a lot of our Geeks are dealing with. But, this stinks, for Texas.cry

Try to stay warm everyone!

It is 15 here. I'm not sure about wind chill. It isn't nearly as windy as it was yesterday. My stupid cat is outside today. He ran back up on the porch as I was leaving so I stopped & went back to let him in. As I unlocked the door he ran off. He didn't freeze yesterday so I guess he'll be fine today too. He really isn't very smart.

Well Lexxy, he must have a warm spot to hang out in. I'll keep my fingers crossed that he'll be fine.

Thanks.  He was huddled against the garage door when I got home yesterday.  I guess in the sun with his winter coat of fur he stayed warm enough.  I figured after yesterday he wouldn't want to do it again today.  But like I said, he's not the sharpest animal I've ever had.

 Awesome news!

Still cold here! Not as bad as yesterday, we are at 9 degrees today already! But it isn't as sunny out today and it's snowing a bit.

I forgot my can of Coke this morning when I left so I have to buy one.  URGH!

Trudy, glad you got by with just tiny nicks. Hope they heal well and this is over for you.

We are a very warm 26 degrees this morning!!! The wind is picking up, so the warmth won't last long. At least I got the garbage out and didn't freeze to death while out there.

Hmm, better get to the store while I can..

Yup, it's beginning to howl out there.. no

We just lost power. It was only for about 5 minutes but it was scary. Scary in that I am now picturing my house without power & coming home to an ice cold house with frozen pipes.

Oh no! I hope that doesn't happen, Lexxy.

Did you leave the cabinet doors open under the sink, and the faucet on trickle?

Its 30 here (feels like 17) but with 50 mph winds. I'm not sure which is worse, freezing cold or lots of wind. I had to bring my garbage can back in. I don't want it to tip and me chase trash down the street.

I hope your cat is ok Lexxy. And your house is nice and warm when you get home.

Glad you procedure went well Trudy. And my house has only got down to 62 in the fall when I turn the heat off in the afternoons because it's warm out and forget to turn it back on overnight. Brr.

No.  It didn't really occur to me that I might lose power.  I'm sure I won't.  I only ever have once when something blew at the power station & the whole area was out.

Also my bff & I talked about it on the ride home & we were both worried the cats would get into trouble under the kitchen sinks.

I keep mine set at 62 over night.  I only set it to 64 during the day & evening.  It's not even to save money but that is a nice aside.  I do it because if the house gets too warm it makes my hot flashes worse.

Since my hot flashes have calmed down, our house is kept at 68. DH wears layers, even then.

I keep it at 68 and I have to wear socks/slippers and long sleeves. My bedroom stays really warm no matter what. I would like it to be cooler in there.

Wow JPT, how often does that happen? One of my friends moved from N.D. to Florida last year and was shocked when they canceled school because of the possibility of snow. It was 40 degrees.

Well, I made it home from southern MN where the weather was pretty bad. DD had a doctor's appointment in Minneapolis but I cancelled it. The radio was saying "blizzard like conditions" along the interstate. The appointment wasn't an emergency, just a routine check up with the speech therapist. Nothing that can't wait. Better safe than sorry. Unfortunately, DH has to take the candidate to the airport, so I won't be happy until he gets back safely.

And...the candidate was doing really really well...until he ran a training session. Apparently he was a train wreck on the only part that mattered, the actual coaching. Sigh. Back to the drawing board. It's exhausting and it isn't even MY problem.

Safe travels to all the geeks and their families. And everyone...cuddle up under the blankets and stay warm!

I keep the heat at 64 24/7. I don't touch it all winter. I'm comfortable. When I get home on really cold days like this, I light a fire, it gets the temp inside cranking to 70.

Snow tomorrow morning during my commute. :( won't be a big storm so I will be going in. I hope I beat the storm.

DD barely made it home a short while ago. She had to take two kids to the dentist in a town 30 miles away. She said it was a total white out in areas. Her DH probably will not make it home tonight. Last night was the only night he made it home this week. Poor guy.

We already have a late start for school tomorrow. The kids got out at 2 p.m. due to roads blowing shut and I had to go get them. Dang it's cold!

Thanks for sending that 50 mph wind our way.. wink
