Woke up to find the dog happily noshing on a Reese PB Cup that DD left out. Guess who is staying home to nurse puppy while his tummy gets sick?? I called the vet, he didn't eat enough to need medical attention, I just need to keep an eye on him. Probably looking at a day of many trips outside...if he can make it.

I didn't want to go out today anyway.

In an emergency, you can make a dog throw up by giving them hydrogen peroxide.  One tablespoon for every 10 pounds of dog.  But they will throw up a LOT.  My vet had me do this when my dog got into the trash and ate an entire package of Oreos I had thrown away.

Why oh why did you throw away an entire pack of oreos??

They were stale. And no - I don't know how I let that happen.

I called the vet this morning and they told me about the peroxide. But the puppy is only 6 lbs so we didn't want to go that route if we didn't have to. The vet emailed me a chart they use to determine severity, and Aksel fell under "moderate" so that made me feel better.

It could have been much worse.

Pack the tooth with cotton balls soaked in vodka or scotch, Rum, if not a clear one, is too sugary.  It will dull the pain enough to sleep.

Turns out I don't get to visit the boy the weekend we were hoping. I would have needed to take Monday off work, but my coworker already needs it off. Her husband is having brain surgery in a couple months and that's the first meeting with the surgeon. I'm sad I don't get to go, but that's more important

Yeah, meeting with a brain surgeon does trump most events. Sorry, you can't go though.

My dogs have always eaten candy and cookies and anything else they wanted. Never had a problem. Monster will take your candy from your mouth if you let him.

You did the right thing and she will be very grateful that you made her go with her DH. I bet she is very relieved that she can go with him too.

Good luck on finding another weekend. smile

Just listened to my message from the vet. Our old golden needs her right carnassial tooth removed - it is broken. This concerns me b/c it is major surgery and she's an old dog, but it's got to go. It is time for her annual cleaning, so they will do that at the same time so she only has to go under the anesthesia once this year.

This is a description I got off one website of a description of removing these type of teeth-

"These teeth need to be extracted. They are huge teeth with three roots. Only one root will be bad, so the other two will be solid as a brick. We will have to cut and peel back her gums, grind away the outside of the tooth socket, cut the tooth into three pieces, and extract each root. Then we'll sew the gums back together. It's major oral surgery, on both sides. She'll need I.V. fluids for the procedure because she is old and she will be under anesthesia for quite a while. This is what it will cost." [$400]

Pretty much right on the mark cost wise, too, from what our vet said.

Good grief, it sure is expensive to keep our pets in good health. no

Sorry your dog is hurting, LL.

My rocking chair broke. Barely six months old, what a waste. How irritating.

I need to get a new one quick, I use it all the time.

I have the rocker my mom rocked me in. I used it for both girls. Someday one of them will make me a grandma and they can use it too. When people say they don't make things like they used to, I used to laugh and think they were old fogies. Now I believe them.

I'm guessing this is to me. And not really, his job doesn't allow for much time off. And it has to be planned way ahead

 That is the truth.

Granny use to "thump" the babies.

She didn't have a rocking chair but she would sit in a straight back straw chair and get to rocking in it and it would thump on the floor and against the wall. It was dubbed "thumping". She was a little bitty woman too.

My rocking chair is in my room by my bed.

I still have the child's rocking chair I had when I was a very little girl. I think I was about 2 when I got it.

They really don't make things like they use to.

That's really special Lindley!

I'm going to call my Uncle, he is really handy and I think he could fix it. That will save me some money.
