Do you sometimes think about things that could go very wrong very quickly, and what you might do about them?
For example, with our cars being almost completely computerized, what would happen if your car had a sudden, massive computer failure while you're driving along?
What ind of things do you think about?

My car died on xmas 2013 on a major highway driving to my sister's. I manage to get it to the emergency lane. Made DD get out of the car even though it was cold. Wrapped her in a fleece blanket I have in my emergency kit. She was fine until we were rescued. But I explained to her why we don't sit in the car. House fire? Run to the neighbors/ Already drilled it in to her that any material thing can be replaced, she can't be.

My mother pointed out my cats weigh roughly three times the amount of the average newborn, and like to sleep on chests.
Her exact words:"When you have kids, you'll need to make sure your cats don't crush them to death."
THANKS MOM.
When the kids were little I could drive myself crazy with the "what ifs".
Then I realized that until a person is actually IN that situation, you don't know what you will do.
Yes. Prepare. Have the emergency kits. I am all for that.
But I am not going to go grey worrying about "what ifs".

Gosh Dona, I did a facepalm on that one. Way to instill fear, right?

It's an old wives tale that cats take a baby's breath. But this is why. If they do get on a baby while it is sleeping, it can make it hard for the little lungs to fill properly. The baby smothers.
I know we all know this.

That's great when you break down in your car, what do you do at 3 a.m. when you wake up and your house is on fire and that fire engulfed the center stairway separating you from you kids? You call 911 and cry.

The only time I really worry about the "what ifs" now is when my parents go out of town and I am here alone with the kids. Not because of me or what could happen to me. But I worry about something happening to me and kids being here to witness it and not having someone here to help them.
But then I remind myself they are not little kids anymore and would be fine.
Still, I guess moms just worry about their kids.

Ok so last night I dreamed that all the neighbors were blowing the stick and such off their driveways in anticipation of today's snow storm. If your snow blower hits a stick or branch it could render it useless. Anyway, in my dream I went out to my driveway to see if there were any sticks or such. Two trees had fallen on my driveway. Very weird dream...

I know we all know this.
Especially if it is a six pound baby, and a nineteen pound cat. . . .
Omg. I won't drive more than 5 miles from my house because of what ifs. What if I break down (my truck has less than 60,000 miles on it, unlikely), what if I get in an accident, who will go get roscoe and make sure he has water and food?
I won't buy a bike because what if I get a flat tire?
What if. I effin hate that!

Wherever I am, I asses my exit options. I know where the exits are. What would be in my way. What other options I have to shield myself and my companions if necessary. What potential weapons I have available....
Do you sometimes think about things that could go very wrong very quickly, and what you might do about them?
Not often. I have experienced several disasters already, and I was able to deal successfully and take charge of the situations without drama. With me, knowing what to do is instinct, with any disastrous situation. Every scenario has already been thought out and planned and filed away in my brain. So when I have to take action, I don' t have to think about what to do, I just do it. In a split second, I do what needs to be done. I am not someone who panics or freaks out when things go down.
I think that everyone, at some time or other, has thought about what they would do in certain situations. Many ask themselves "What would I do?". Some even obsess or become paranoid about it. It is a good practice to be prepared, but not let it control your life. Some take classes or attend training. Others read books.
It is good to have a plan, at least. One of the biggest disasters where I am now is hurricanes and flooding. I can say that I am not among the people who freak out and pack the stores buying up water, paper goods, batteries, etc. at the last minute; hoarding food and supplies, waiting in long lines to fill up gas (when I had a car). I am good to go right where I am. I watch the news and shake my head at all the panicking folks. Amateurs.
