Love the weather we've been having. I have the day off and the sun is out and supposed to be 55 again today, so I think I'll go walk again. Might go get the rest of my groceries I didn't get Saturday. I was really tired by the time I was done and didn't get several things.

This snow business is all over our news down here too. We are having flash backs to 1993. That was crazy.

As for that carport thing, Monster doesn't mind going out in just about everything but if it is pouring rain he doesn't like it. He has a little space at the end of the carport out here that is under the eve of the house and goes there on those really bad days.

But I thought it might be handy for those with dogs in this stuff or those that don't like snow and rain at all.

It is 41 here but it feels like 30 with the wind. But we are dry for now.

Only 53 days till Spring.

Dad is home today. He had some veins burned in his leg yesterday. He is supposed to stay off his feet today. So far he is doing a good job of it. But I have a feeling it is beginning to get to him. He hates sitting down.

FWM, it sounds like a real pain, having to change everything over. I'd be finding another bank if they couldn't do better than that.

It's 67 degrees here! I'm not trying to brag to all of you in the snow. You know that I live in a snowy area and this type of weather is practically a miracle this type of year.

You lucky banana belt person!

It is sunny here as well, but breezy. Looking forward to another day in the 50's here. Yesterday was beautiful.  smile

I know, but at least we'll be about a week closer to spring - one less week for a blizzard!

Have to don the snow clothes and get out there and finish shoveling the deck, or it will collapse.

I feel for those of you stuck inside and snowed in. I hope you all stay safe.

The snow missed DD mostly. She got snow, but nothing compared to others and she is already out and about today, just like normal.

It's 45 here, which does not sound amazing. But last year at this time it was about -25 so I am enjoying it!

I pick DH up from the airport today!! Can't wait! He has been gone for a week. Nothing compared to what some of you deal with but it's been awhile since he has been gone that long.

Hope everyone stays safe today!

We're about 74. I had to run the A/C in the Jeep when I went to the store.

And, I worked up a pretty good sweat on my walk.

77 tomorrow. And the party is over. Cold front coming Thursday.cry

It is cold here & I have to get gas or I won't make it home. I should have done it Sunday when I was out & it was 20 degrees warmer but as usual I pushed it until the light came on & now it is colder.

At lunchtime today, I had to go clean out my car. It smelled really funny and I didn't know why. My children can be disgusting little pigs - I would ban them from eating in the car, but that is not going to work. I found YOGURT containers in the backseat. Plus, cheerios, candy and spilled milk. And it was just cold enough that my hands were freezing trying to clean all that up.

Eewww.......Make sure they clean up whatever it is they are eating each day.  Tell them if the can't clean up after themselves you won't let them eat in the car anymore.  Your DD10 is old enough that she can help (not)BabyJ.

It's mostly Baby J.  I normally take the gogurts out of the car, but one of them slipped under her carseat, and another under the seat.  Blech.

I have the two best 9YO's here they have shoveled 2 1/2 feet of snow off 1/2 my deck which was a goal. They just shoveled the front porch again without being asked. $20 each for them!

Finished shoveling and clearing the cars. A neighbor and his 14 y.o. helped clear about 100 feet of sidewalk. Signed for the son's required community service.

It's 27 degrees, and the snow is melting ...

That comment piqued my interest.  Is community service part of education there?  Are there so many hours kids have to do?  Really curious...

I just got back from getting more groceries and going to the gym for the first time in 9 or so months. I didn't go crazy because I want to be able to walk without my arms and back killing me. But it's so nice out I want to go walk now. Maybe a little less than a 1/4 mile. I don't know. Need to decide before it gets dark.

Yes, in Middle School. I don't know whether it's also a high school requirement.

I remember that DS2 sold tickets at a Village Carnival in the Spring or summer one year.

I don't know anything else about the requirement.

Spouse said that shoveling for an hour for an elderly neighbor shouldn't be considered "community service" by the school.

I told her I don't care, it's not my problem. I was just grateful for the help.

I offered to pay him, but he refused. His father said it's "something neighbors do for each other". His father is right.

I thought the kid was court ordered to do community service. Didn't even occur to me it would be school related. My life lens is a little shadowy...lol.

I have seasonal affective disorder, so when the sun is out and warm, I feel great and want to do everything. Plus, since feeling better since surgery I have a ton of energy. I'm probably going to pay for it tomorrow and the next day but it felt good today.

My kids both had to do community service to graduate high school. For both, it was a requirement for graduation, but for DD in Indiana her school also gave out awards to the kids with the most hours and they got a special patch for their letterman's jackets.  That school also bussed kids to their community service sites - soup kitchen, after school literacy center for at risk youth, food bank, etc  You could sign up and go wherever you chose. It was a really nice program.

Also, in a lot of schools, to get into National Honor Scoiety you need community service hours as well. With all the grade inflation, everyone and her sister is eligible these days. Community service hours seem to separate the wheat from the chaff so to speak.

DD wants to be a special education teacher. She has spent over 200 hours as a volunteer tutor for at risk youth. She took one boy from being almost illiterate to passing his grade level reading assignments. She has the patience of a saint. She loves it though. And the kids LOVE her. They call her "Selena Gomez" because that's who they think she looks like. She told them "you just think all white girls look alike". After she said that, she was golden with them! Lol.

If she had not chosen that as one of her community service opportunities I don't know if she would know what she wants to do with her life.

She had some offers from some really good schools (an Ivy,and a near Ivy), but they didn't offer special education so she won't go there. It's depressing, but I know this is what she wants to do with her life.

That is wonderful. I wish it were required here. It would be a lot better than those ridiculous "character classes" they have. Really helping someone is a lot better than anything they can pick up in a class room.

That's awesome.

C spent a year getting her cosmetology degree. And now she is rethinking it.

Guess what she wants to do?

Teach.

I tried to get her to do that in the first place. She has always wanted to teach. But then she became adamant that hair and nails was all she wanted to do.

Now she is looking into being a para-pro to see if she would really like it.

Why wont they just listen to us? no
