Ha. I was right.

I get my boyfriend all the time with the "Notice anything different?" and "ARE YOU LISTENING TO ME?", but it isn't on purpose. It is only when I legitimately have something new and exciting he really ought to notice, or when he was obviously not listening.
("So yeah, I forgot to pick up toilet paper again. . . Will you be able to stop on your way home, do you think? Oh, we need more laundry detergent too!" "Great!" ". . . Sweetie, ARE YOU LISTENING TO ME?" "No. . . . . Not at all, actually. . . ")

I rarely go for the "Do you think she's pretty?" or "Do I look fat in this?", although I will ask how I look in a certain outfit on occasion, and he always says "Great!", which is not particularly helpful.
Occasionally, I have to actually say, in plain English, "Sweetie, I am just feeling a little down and fragile, and all I really want is to feel special and loved. Can you please put your phone away and let me whine for a few minutes?"
To his credit, he always always does. And it is much, much easier than asking silly roundabout questions.
