Curious - when was this?  We used to do some DocuSign in our office, but the lenders have now gone back to paper.  Too many frivolous lawsuits about producing "original" documents.

I had a combination online signatures and paper at the final signing.  I believe Docusign is what was used.   I was sent a link and password to a website to read and check boxes to indicated I read the document.  I may have had to type in initials at some point.

 Interesting.....

Of course, our Court clerk's are not yet accepting electronic filings for real estate records.

Would it make you feel better to know that DS7 is learning cursive this year? He actually started using his legal name on his school work instead of the shortened version because it is more fun to write. They also teach spelling. I can't imagine sending my kids somewhere that spelling isn't taught.

For the record, he can also count back change, but that was a skill we taught him.

To the OP, if the LW chooses to not go based on the hosts form of invite, that is their perogative. It is really as simple as not going. Problem solved. What advice was she expecting here? Geez. You cannot force other people to do only what you feel is proper. Trying to will only make you miserable.

My settlement was all original signatures. My rental agreement with my tenant through a property management company was all docusign last year.

I should clarify - they taught spelling up to 3rd grade for reading purposes.  After that - no more.

Ours does through 8th grade. It was the same way when I was in school, and even then there were many that couldn't (and can't) seem to spell basic words. I cringe to think what this new generation will be like with even less spelling emphasis.

Text is no different than short hand. It is a way to communicate. Language evolves and changes. Why should I type out YOU when I can type U and the person I am speaking with knows exactly what is meant?

I'm too much of a grammar Nazi.  I don't care if people send me texts like that, but I just cannot bring myself to do it.

There is a time and place for good grammer. And, I agree, nobody can tell the difference much anymore. Of course if you are writing a term paper or professional paper or professional communication, etc then you do. If you are texting your kids or friends, then what's the diff?

I don't know.  It's just a thing for me.

I text constantly.  I'm texting in between typing on this thread. I get/receive about 200-250 texts a day. It's my primary form of communication.

Not everybody has texting. So no, it is not an efficient way to send an invitation.

The assumption by people that everyone will receive a text is just wrong.

So if this were the case in my family, a bunch of us would not receive the invites.

And you can bet your buttons I'm not going to go spend money to get texting just so I can receive some lazy person's undignified invitation.

You know, birthday parties probably wouldn't bother me with a text or FB. But I really do think baby showers and weddings and the more important things in life still need the old fashioned invites.

Watched a movie not long ago. It was about two people put into a cryogenic sleep for what was supposed to be about 5 years but ended up being about 60 or something like that.

And they woke up, quite by accident, to a world where no one can do anything without their digital devises. They couldn't grow food, could write, couldn't read anything but text speak and they barely spoke because it had permeated the very fabric of life. The hospitals were staffed with people who used the internet instead of going to school. Everything was online and no one went to school. They didn't need to. They had the internet.

It was how the world had progressed to the point devolving.

It was a comedy and it was funny but it was eye opening at the same time.

I wish I could remember the name of it.

Well, you can do that to a point. But, I find that if people are not online or available by text, they probably are not contacted or included as much. It's just the way it is.

I have a hard time reading that kind of stuff. Most of the time, I wont even bother to try.

To me, and this is just my opinion, it makes a person look really stupid to use text speak.

I understand that way back when texting was new there was limited space and it was used to get a message across. But now there is no point to it except laziness.

Or, the alternative point of view. People who don't try to keep up on technology and learn new things could also be called "lazy" as well. Just saying!

The best way to get in touch with my sons is usually a text. That doesn't mean I can't use "real" English.

I am not a big texter. I will if I have to but I hate to. And when I do I type in real English. I just can't do text. I much prefer talking on the phone in person. But the last person I talked to on the phone, outside of my kids and DH, was back in December. I don't really talk on the phone much either. No one calls me. Seriously. If the phone rings I know it's either my husband or kids. I don't even get crank calls or phone solicitors. I have gone days without my phone ringing.

If someone texts me to come to something they're probably out of luck. I often don't check my texts for days. If someone wants me to attend a gathering/party of theirs they better call or send an invite. Otherwise I might not know it's going on.

OMG - you are so lucky.  My f-ing phone rings constantly & it is usually some form of solicitor.  When I was home on MLK day I actually unplugged my phone from the wall it was so annoying.  I don't texts much either.

On the rare occasion that someone wants to get a hold of me they actually call or text my kids.  No lie.  If church group gets changed or something they will call one of the kids and say, "Tell your mom..."

 Nooooo!!!  Surely you jest!!! wink

Oh shut it!  I actually texted with you the other day.  lol

Yes you did!  And it only took you a day to respond!  That's a miracle with you!  biggrin

I know!  My QRT is increasing!

I totally get it, NJN.  I don't respond right away, either.  You should feel lucky if you get a response at all.  biggrin

Hey!  I normally return your texts in the same day.  That's pretty good.
