Well, we officially rang in our Friday at the Doggy ER. We let all the dogs out before getting ready for bed. They all came in and took their places in our room. Hemi next to my side of the bed and Carlee and Layla on the bed. Then we noticed Carlee. She was drooling all over the place. DH called her name and she didn't move. We nicknamed her Bouncy Bum because whenever we give her a treat she dances and literally wags her bum. So now if you call her Bouncy Bum she jumps up and comes running because she thinks she's getting a treat. She will wake up out of a deep sleep if you call her Bouncy Bum. We were calling her and calling her and she didn't respond. She just laid there with her eyes open drooling all over. So we rushed her to the Doggy ER. By the time we got there her eyes were swollen shut and her lips were all swollen. She had hives on her head and inside her ears. Her lungs were clear so we were lucky. They gave her a shot of steroids, a shot of Epi, and a shot of Benadryl. We had to hang out for thirty minutes to make sure she was okay. She started perking up again though. Now we're home, her face is less swollen, and she's on oral Benadryl. The vet thinks she was either bitten by something or got into something. They're leaning toward she was bitten by a spider or scorpion since she goes outside all the time and we keep our yard clean for them. What a night!

Hahahahaha,  no way no early bedtime tonight!  It's Netflix night.  We got rid of cable since DH got laid off.  We kept Netflix.  And I already programmed the tv for all the shows we watch Friday through Sunday.

I don't have Netflix.

How does that work?

Would I have to leave my warm house, for it?confuse

(That wouldn't happen.)wink

We already pay a lot, for our cable channels. Is Netflix better and cheaper?

Give me the skinny, please!smile

I missed this FWM.  You don't have to leave your house for Netflix FWM.  You get it through your gaming system.  We have a Wii in our bedroom and a PS3 in the living room.  You have to go to the website and join.  It's $8/month and you can watch unlimited movies.  Of course, they don't have all the new releases but they have a ton of good movies.  They have everything from classics to drama to horror to crime to you name it.  And they have a whole kids section.  In fact, you can make an account for your kids so they can only access the kids section.  We really like it.  You just turn on the gaming system, sign into Netflix, pick a movie, and voila!  If you shop at Amazon and have Amazon prime you can get a similar program with them.  We were paying $80 in JUST movie channels through Direct TV so we cut only the movie channels.  Saved us a huge amount of money.  We kept the Netflix.  We still have the bare minimum of cable channels.  Have to have Walking Dead!  It was a price thing for us right now.

(clearing throat) it is not a quarter to midnight.  Just saying we shouldn't monopolize the daily.  Don't care if you don't want to, just throwing it out there for food for thought.  that's it.

I don't monopolize it.  But whatever.  I'll continue to start it when I feel the desire.  Sometimes I'll go a week without starting a daily.  Sometimes I start it every day for awhile.  I started it because SB wanted F@ck It Friday.  I really don't give a rat's arse that you think I started it too soon or that I start it too much.  Lately we've had two or three dailies and I don't see you bitching because other people wanted to start them.  I think you're just looking to find something to gripe at me about.

Why the overreaction, NJN? You seem to be on the edge lately.  What's up?

Just for the record - I don't give a flying flip about the daily. Not who, when or how it gets started. So, there will be no rule making over the.....competition to start a thread. But, then, there will also be no rule making about the bitching about the who, when or how it gets started.

So basically.....carry on.

My coworker has been trying to get into a program on our computer for two days. It's where we do competencies. We've been using this program at least 10 years. I'm so irritated. He's talking to himself. I don't get how some people never seem to grasp simple computer skills.

It most definitely did NOT come off as "teasing".  Czech put a little biggrin after hers to let me know she was kidding.  You did not.  You gave me a lecture on how many times I started it and how I started it too early and how we needed to have rules.  That doesn't seem like teasing to me.  Seems to me if you're kidding around you'll make it clear you're kidding around.  Apparently only flan thought you were kidding also.  I wasn't the only one who interpreted what you said as NOT funny.

I currently have 2 Netflix plans - the streaming, which has a lot of TV shows and older movies, and I also have the 1 movie at a time option through the mail so I can get new releases.  They come to my mailbox, and they get sent back that way.  Each plan is $7.95 a month.  The DVD through the mail thing also has a $4.99 plan, but that limits you to 2 movies a month.  So, for $16 a month, I can watch most of what I want, and I don't have to go to a redbox.  I would never return those suckers after a day - it would cost me a fortune.  I need my Netflix "keep it as long as you like" plan.

We have several Redboxes around us. We just bought a Redbox card dedicated for our Redbox use. We love it. We just have the basic Netflix. We can stream to our computers and get it on our tv but we don't get movies in the mail. That was another $8 and we just didn't like the selection. I signed up for Redbox's new Play Pass program where when you rent ten movies you get a completely free rental. I've already earned six free movies. Yes, I do know what that says about me!

I guess we'll just stick with cable, for now.

Hmmm, I know Conor gets movies from Amazon, and plugs his laptop into his TV to play them. Maybe I could do that, if I really wanted to see something?

Yes FWM, you can do that. I'm 99% sure you can connect your tv directly to the internet but don't ask me how. I am not tech savvy.

FWM I get my Netflix through my Dvd player. It's a Sony. We asked at the store when we were buying it and he pointed us to the ones that worked with our tv and Netflix.

I'm up because SS's mom sent him to school knowing he was throwing up. The school called to have DH come and get him. DH is on sick kid duty and I am on sick dog duty.

Yes Tinydancer, there's a way to do it. If you have a certain kind of dvd player too you can also do it through the dvd player. There are many options to get it. I just don't know all the ways to hook it up!

Most newer DVD players are programmed to stream, and so are the new smart TVs. We bought a Roku box even though we could have used our Wii. Roku will stream just about anything, and you can usually get one on sale for about $40 - $50. And Roku is pretty much idiot proof - my 4 year old can do it (not that you are an idiot).

Yep, there are a ton of ways to get it. We love Netflix. We made money decisions to drop the cable movie channels and stay with Netflix. Huge price difference.

Thanks for all the good ideas, my friends! I'm not a complete idiot. But, I'm not the most tech savvy person, either.

I usually just scream like a girl, and one of my kids will fix something for me!biggrin (That's what us old Mom's do!)wink

Hang in there Trudy! It's almost the weekend!

NJN, how is Carlee doing this morning? Better, I hope! I hope the little guy is feeling better soon, too.

Yep, there are a ton of ways to get it. We love Netflix. We made money decisions to drop the cable movie channels and stay with Netflix. Huge price difference.

I would love to drop the movie channels. I will look into this. Thanks for the info! smile

Geez Njn, that sounds scary with the furbaby! Hope she's ok. My little guy gets bit by fire ants every spring and he gets lethargic but no swelling. I'll be thinking good thoughts for you and her.

Btw, Roscoe is the same way with his Kong. He knows it means peanut butter so he does his dance to get it. Cute!

You're welcome FWM. And Tiny thanks for reminding me about the tv and dvd players. Yep, some of them do it too. For us it was just a money decision. We were paying $80/month for our cable movie channels. Too much since DH got laid off. So we just dropped down to Netflix.

Carlee is doing better. The one eye that was the most swollen has a little bit of swelling left but the other eye is completely unswollen. The hives have all gone away. She is still being dosed on oral Benadryl for the next two days. We thought she had had a stroke from the way she was laying there not moving and drooling. It appears it was just a severe allergic reaction. Once she got the meds she started perking up right away.

SS's mom knew he was sick and sent him to school anyway. He was throwing up when she sent him to school. This makes no sense to me. We were going to pick him up from school today so she could have called us and asked us to come get him or asked us to keep him all day. We are a five minute detour from her route to work. We have told her we will drive up to the highway and all she has to do is meet us at the gas station. I sometimes don't know why she does the things she does. DH went to get him but I stayed home with Carlee. We didn't want to leave her unattended yet.

Thanks!  We have Layla who is a ball of anxiety.  If it had been her we probably wouldn't have worried like we did.  She's moody and well, Layla.  Carlee is always loving and wants to be in your lap.  She thinks she weighs five pounds and not fifty five.  It was just very unusual behavior for her.

She's our dancing dog!  The ER was so nice.  They even trimmed her nails for us.

Oy, that didn't make sense. It would have been better to just call you guys, and drop him off, rather than send him to school sick.cry

Oh well, go figure?confuse

I'm hitting the gym this morning. Monday is my first weigh in. I'm not looking forward to that but I am looking forward to the next one so I can see my progress. The first one is intimidating and I have to fight myself over being overwhelmed and saying feck it. It just seems like it's too much to lose so why even try. But, if I look at it like a project at work, I should be ok. Rome wasn't built in a day and this weight didn't happen over night either.

Why can't I be 5'9? I'd be the perfect weight...or at least only have to lose 10 instead of 60.

Good for you, VoR! Maybe if you set smaller goals, it won't seem so bad?

I try to take it 5 pounds at a time. And, I still have a ways to go, to be back where I want to be.

Hang in there! I'm rooting for you!smile

Happy Friday everyone.

I'm glad Carlee is doing better & that you noticed her behavior before you fell asleep.

I've considered doing Netflix so I appreciate the information. I know my DVD player is too old to stream so maybe I'll look into the Roku box thingy. It would save me a small fortune I think.

Nope. Wanted SB to have her thread!

I know....right?wink

I'm sure SB, will appreciate your thoughtfulness! smile

Thanks for the information, NJN and LL. I don't have a gaming system. And, I don't think I want to buy one, just for Netflix.

I guess we'll just stick with cable, for now.

Hmmm, I know Conor gets movies from Amazon, and plugs his laptop into his TV to play them. Maybe I could do that, if I really wanted to see something?

FWM I get my Netflix through my Dvd player. It's a Sony. We asked at the store when we were buying it and he pointed us to the ones that worked with our tv and Netflix.

Mine is a Samsung. I wonder if it would work? I guess I'll have to break down and read the manual.biggrin

Or, Google it!wink

If you have a TV or DVD player with WiFi you can do Netflix on it. (And Amazon)

Almost every device we have has the app already on there.

It's ok. The kids movies are there. Lots of those to choose from.

But there isn't a lot of new movies on there. They are all at least a few years old.

TV shows are there but there are not a whole lot that we watch.

I think you can do a test run to see if it is for you.

C likes it cause she can watch all of her Supernatural and Pretty Little Liars.

I like the older movies, John Wayne, and cult movies. All the Airplane movies are on there.

Try it.

I like Amazon too.

My TV came with Amazon, Netflix and Mgo. I haven't tried the Mgo yet.

Oh and good morning. Feeling better than yesterday. Got some real rest last night. Not 100% but I am among the living.

Still have pain and the nausea comes and goes but I am getting my appetite back.

We are getting ready for a possible snow or ice storm. Some time between 1 and midnight.

I feel very hung over.

Hope everyone has a great day.

I kept DD10 home again. She got up this morning to get ready for school and was still really shaky and tired. She coughed a lot during the night. So I told her to go back to bed, and she is still asleep.

We are at the first college on the trip. DD is off now talking to the academic advisor for her major. Many more miles to drive today to the next stop...sigh. What a spring break.

LL, I hope you daughter feels better after a good rest. It seems to make the most difference.

MM, I hope you daughter gets the information she needs to make a decision.

Thanks FWM.
