I figure many of you are tired of seeing out snow totals and frustrations posted on numerous threads. I thought perhaps keeping them all on one thread might be a good idea.
I will start. In my area we have over 111" of snow. We have more moving in Saturday night. Worse than that is south of Boston, they will get snow and rain. The rain will be devastating to roofs and of course put inches of ice on the roads. Then another major storm on Wednesday. This is a horrible situation. Its the Natural disaster that just won't go away. There is snow rage, road rage, etc every year. It is wearing on us.

I actually thought about posting a snow thread. But then I figured someone would say I was being grouchy.

A flock of flirting flamingos is pure, passionate, pink pandemonium-a frenetic flamingle-mangle-a discordant discotheque of delirious dancing, flamboyant feathers, and flamingo lingo.
We are lucky. All the major snow has missed us. We have a lot, and the wind and sub-zero temps are getting old fast, but in general, the worst of it has slid past us to the south or north.
I have said that. I just never meant it seriously.

But we have the same thing in the summer but in the opposite direction. I remember complaining when it was 107 and my ac went out. It's miserable.

Boo. The weather is pretty perfect for me here right now (for this time of year . . . ). Mild, sunny - most of the time, when it's not cloudy and raining - and I was out with just a sweater today.
Never thought I would be happy to live in Canada . . .
I am so glad and thankful that we do not have that kind of snow. I grew up with it and do not need to experience it ever again. Stay safe, drive safely if you must get out, be careful clearing walks and driveways....
But we have the same thing in the summer but in the opposite direction. I remember complaining when it was 107 and my ac went out. It's miserable.
But then you invested in a window a/c so you could survive. Accommodate. Deal with it.
Not sure if this was meant to be rude or not. Yes. I finally invested in a window unit. But it cools only the master bedroom. The rest of the house is miserable. You can't cook or really get anything like laundry done. And even the one unit strains to keep it cool.
My point was we, in the south, have extremes too. So I can understand the misery. Just in a different direction.

Is anyone from Boston? Are flights landing at the airport?
I'm just south of Boston. Up to the minute, I don't know. In the earlier days of our Snowmageddon (1/26 through last week), there were many cancelled flights.
I haven't been hearing about a lot of flight cancellations in recent news, so maybe they're better now. If you want specifics, check online at Logan or the airline.
I haven't paid attention to flight cancellations because we're up to our ears in other problems caused by the snow.

People around here are getting price-gouged by "contractors**" clearing off roofs. We've heard of them trying to charge thousands to have their roofs cleared.
I'm so glad DH and DS have the expertise to do ours. (And I helped!)

I hope karma bites them in the azz! That's disgusting.
Hope you all avoid structural damage from the weight of the snow and ice.
That's one of the reasons I moved from NY/NJ down to Texas!
Our local cities and towns are managing the snow removal in streets well. So now, the concern is shifting to roofs.
We know how to manage our roof, but many folks around here don't have the know-how, or the money to hire it out.
The roof collapses that I've heard of have been mostly flat-roofed buildings. There was one a quarter-mile away at a strip mall. Thankfully everyone got out of the building before it went.
But the ice dams are everywhere. And lots of those folks will have interior water damage if they don't take care of them.

Yeah the gouging stories are horrible. And regular roofers may be charging a premium but they aren't gouging. It's the scammers that are and there are plenty of scammers out there.
I am so glad I don't have any roof worries. Until this year, I've dislike my "tall" house, loving it now! I do have to snow blow a path to the oil fill up valve. I totally forgot about it and I will probably need a fill up before this all melts. Need to do that this morning. It's going to take awhile since the snow is twice the height of the snow blower.

Sorry I wasn't clear,
that was a compliment.

It's really something. Life is completely different around here since January 26th.
You either make friends with it somehow, or you go crazy or stay miserable.
I'm trying to make friends with it.
Good for you!

Well I'm not going as far as being friends with it, but I'm not going to get mad, and I even laugh at the ridiculousness of it all. I am thankful I don't rely on the public transit to get around since the T is shut down or on minimal service. That is awful for people who rely on it. I am seeing an increase in road rage, that's for sure. I try to ignore the horn honking, finger flipping and screaming that I see. I am also trying to be nicer and helping by letting people turn onto main roads from side roads. The snow banks are too high to see around.

The mass transit system here being crippled by snow seems to be the worst collective problem I see. So many commuters' daily lives are so screwed up by this.
I think our governor is trying his best with the T. But it is asinine that he doesn't have complete authority over it, so he can't do that much. The MBTA is a messed-up, mismanaged organization and now the crap has hit the fan.
I heard they had inmates shoveling snow off the train tracks. And paying them way too much.
I'm so glad I don't rely on the T.

I hope people are making those contractors sign waivers before they let them on their roof. I can just see them falling off and then suing the homeowner.

Yeah, the PD's in all the town are warning people to have signed contracts and make sure the contractor has insurance.

I've hear of people doing that, but how do they get those heavy suckers onto the roof? Also, in the pic, he is snow blowing the snow onto the roof! Something more than beer is involved I think.

I feel bad for all you folks in the NE, all that flippin' snow. We get our share of snow here (Northern MN, though not this year), but we're used to it, and we don't have near the traffic congestion/transit issues you do. 111 inches of snow is hard to imagine.
Some places in the South, too, where temps have been getting much colder than you are accustomed to. Last week I saw where temps were in the single digits below zero. That's crazy.
Where I am, we have only had maybe 3-6 inches of snow all winter! Which is also crazy. We'll be dealing with serious drought this summer if we don't get some precipitation.
I've hear of people doing that, but how do they get those heavy suckers onto the roof? Also, in the pic, he is snow blowing the snow onto the roof! Something more than beer is involved I think.
LOL, I wondered that same thing, IKWTDS!
I just thought the picture was funny. I'd be too scared to try it. So many ways for that to end badly.
The temps have been warm enough today that my entire driveway and most of the walkway is clear of snow! I keep scraping it off. Still a ton of snow and tomorrow the ice will start but good for now. I feel as though I am winning this battle.

Photoshopped. Look at the shadow of the snowblower.
