UGH! Just got back from a funeral. Plumbing problem NOT solved.
Pipe overflowed in the cellar, about half inch of toilet water, toilet paper, etc. all over the floor.
Wet vac'ing again. Not too smelly, I think it was just pee, thankfully!
DH knows that at least it is not backing up from the sewer line in the street, that would be a nightmare.
The problem is somewhere in our pipes in the house.
So - can't flush the toilets or run any water down the drain until we figure out where the problem is.
DH has had good luck fixing this stuff before. Hope he can do it this time.
If not we'll call the plumber and hope he can come soon.
It just never ends. The past month it's just one crisis after another.
Problem is not in our house pipes, it's in the soil pipe somewhere between the house and the street.
The guy from the town is here right now, snaking through the soil pipe. Thankfully he came quickly.
He found the clog, it's a big one. And it's free because the clog is in town pipe. Yay!
DH has some great snakes, but not one this size or length. We are watching carefully so we can go buy our own like the town guy's, so we can do this ourselves next time.
We like to be as self-sufficient as possible.
So our crappy day will end happy! Can't wait to use the toilet!

We've had ours cleaned out twice, it seems to take 15 years for the tree roots to grow into the pipe enough to clog it. I paid $240. He came at 8:00 a.m. and finished at 8:59.
RotoRooter wanted $850 the one time I called them. They DID come over right away, on a Sunday night. The man must have been sitting in his truck, hoping for some desperate sucker to call who would be willing to pay whatever he asked.
