Its a private business and they can run it the way they want. It doesn't bother me. But, if they can let a person pick their own locker room then other businesses can make choices as well.
I think Planet Fitness is not following their policy very well, or at least very selectively, depending on the person. The first sentence of it is:
"Planet Fitness is committed to creating a non-intimidating, welcoming environment for our members."
Does that mean all members, or just transgender members? I can see how a peni$ in a women's locker room would be intimidating and non-welcoming to some women. But I guess Planet Fitness cannot see that.
They are not the only ones.

I'd like to see Flan, and the others defending this, in a locker room half dressed when a guy rounds the corner and uses the locker beside them. I can hear the shrieks now.
The comfort for all thing is crap. Because that would mean this woman's comfort would have been important too.

Sorry. I don't buy it. Why? Because they don't come with a label on their backs that says " transgender".
So you wouldn't know by just looking at the naked guy that he "identifies" as a girl. All you see is penis.

Sure their feelings matter. But a private business can restrict or not restrict the locker rooms as they see fit. People who don't like a company's policy should use another business.
Personally, I don't get why people are so concerned with other peoples crotches.

And good luck to THIS Planet Fitness in Midland, MI. I'll be curious to see how many female members they lose or this ONE transgender guest who isn't even a member.

So a naked man comes around the corner and you are half dressed and have no way of knowing "how he identifies" and it doesn't phase you at all?
Again. I don't buy that.
Not one little bitty bit.

Lily - I grew up in the woods with a bunch of hippies. Nudity doesn't phase me. I grew up using sauna's, hot tubs and skinny dipping with mixed groups. And guess what? No one was having sex either.
My best guy friend from high school has seen me naked more than anyone and nothings ever happened between us.
Nudity isn't a big thing for everyone.
Now - my husband isn;t so cavalier so out of respect for him I don't go group hot tubbing with out a bathing suit anymore when I'm home visiting friends.

How come that is true for this situation but not the baker, minister, venue or anything else that doesn't agree under opposite circumstances?
If this had been making the man leave the dressing room, would it still apply?

You are talking about groups where you were aware it would be mixed.
Not alone in a locker room with a women's sign on the door and a naked man you don't know there with you.
Two totally different situations.

Wouldn't happen. I'd be in a private stall with the door locked. Just like I'd do even if there was a "No Penis Guarantee" on the door.
But you have to come out. In a women's locker room, you don't expect a naked man in there.

Every one of you have assumed a stranger on the street and how they made you feel uncomfortable at some point. But you have no problem with a naked man in the locker room with you?
And what about the younger girl in there. Are there those under 18 in those places?
A naked man in the park would be a perv and a sex offender. But it's ok in the locker room.

There is a big difference between someone flashing someone in a park and a transgender person changing their clothes for a work out.
People who do not fit into the norm do not = a pervert.

The ONLY qualification that Planet Fitness makes to this is the way you dress. That means ANY man can dress like a woman and go into the women's locker room. Everyone gets so up in arms about women being victimized until it's the transgender movement allowing it to happen.

I did have a situation that relates here. I belonged to a gym that had multiple locations. I guess it wasnt standard that women's lockerroom was on the right and men's lockerroom on the left. This guy just comes strolling right in. I looked up and was like, um, I think you made a wrong turn. He turned about 7 shades of red and ran out.
Does the body change on it's own? No. It doesn't go from being male to female all on it's own. Can a person choose to get pregnant if they are male just because they feel like a woman in their mind? NO. The mind is the fluid part here, not the body.
And the mind determines sexual preference as well as sexual identity.

The mind does not determine SEX.

I was up early taking my shower before work. And, our bedroom is immediately outside of the upstairs bathroom. I usually don't bother to take my clothes in because it is easier to just scoot into the bedroom with a towel. I am usually up way earlier than the kids when I am doing my scooting. Well, this morning, I walked out of the bathroom and almost knocked down my 19 yr old son. He was positively mortified! LOL!!

A naked man in the women's locker room is transgender.
But you wouldn't know that about either.
The naked man in the park could be suffering from Alzheimer's and the guy in the locker room could be a perv.
Do you put a gun to you head and pull the trigger to see if it is loaded? No? Why? Because it could be?
So why put a naked man in the females locker room? You don't know he isn't a voyeur or worse, a predator looking for prey.
Why a business would open themselves up to that possibility, I have no idea.

More like only seeing this from the perspective of knowing the people in question in advance.
It's different when the naked man is a total and complete stranger.

The "no judgement zone" was marketed about being unfit and a wimp - not about having to share a bathroom with the opposite sex.
Hey, if it's no big deal - just get rid of gender bathrooms altogether. Let's see how that goes over.
This. They have doing a ton of advertising in my area and the no intimidation is all about exercising at your own pace and such. Their marketing is misleading. And I bet they do lose a lot of patrons. My son has a membership and paid for a year up front. As soon as his membership is done he is going elsewhere.

I don't think anybody really did anything wrong in this situation. As society changes, policies and cultural norms change. As these changes happen their are going to be hiccups in the way things are handled.

It certainly would if the person was a pervert and ogling and intimidating you. HUGE difference between a pervert claiming they are transgender and a group of nudists.
