I think some of the bickering might dissipate if we had some new members to bring in new topics rather than just discussing the same things all the time.
Although, I have no idea how to get people to come to a message board.
On one hand, I agree with this. On the other, I think there are a few on here you will argue and bicker no matter what. They are a small minority, but they are responsible for most of the arguing. It's like they thrive on it.
I don't mind people discussing and disagreeing pleasantly. But the venom and the snark and the insults are totally unnecessary.
That's life though. People snark. It might not be so prevalent if their were more traffic though. Who knows, maybe I could be wrong.

I completely agree with the bolded. It gets old, and this last month was actually pretty pleasant to be here. If I wanted to "hear" people bickering, all I have to do is go to my parents' house. I don't want to come to a message board and see bickering and disrespect where I come to relax. It's not relaxing.
I think the bickering is boring & the quoted posts get so long it is impossible to follow the thread if you come in late. When I open them & see that I usually duck right back out.

I do the same, Lexxy. When there are too many quoted posts I lose track of what is what and I just scroll past until someone changes the subject. I'm still not sure I understand some recent issues which I won't mention.
Ed maybe you can make a thread cAlled psa's and either make it a blog or sticky it.
I like that idea. I also like some of Ed's PSA's, while others don't apply to me. Personally, I would hate to see you stop posting them, Ed. A sticky'd thread might be the best of both worlds...
And you never know who might be lurking & can use the info.
I don't want to talk to you no more, you empty-headed animal food trough wiper! I fart in your general direction! Your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries!

Okay, I know this is the fight thread, but I you right now!
That is one of my all-time favorite quotes!
Now I want to watch the movie again.

I love it! I was friends with a guy in high school that would act out scenes by himself for our amusement when a teacher left the room. It was hilarious, more so when the teacher came back before he finished! Ahh sweet memories. I need to watch the movie now.
We should do a Geek viewing party and post as we watch!

Different people find different things and different people annoying.

I think Ed needs a blog to put all those things on.
One day there was 15 in a row. The daily had been pushed to the second page.
A lot of them are just plain ridiculous. Milk in a dairy product? Flour in a baked good? Apples in an apple product? Duh!
I don't think we really care.
And I know here, that when something affects us locally, it is announced on the local tv an radio stations.

That is what I am talking about. There is not ONE SINGLE national name brand I recognize in that. And I doubt I'm the only one since they didn't get any comments. You could be a little more selective.
I just ignore all those posts for the very same reason. If they were more selective I might read some of them.
I missed the memo...is it pile on Ed day? If so, count me out.
He has a right to post whatever the heck he wants to. If you don't like it, you have every right to say so. But some of this is unkind and b!tchy and not constructive criticism.

In case you didn't notice - he started this thread bitching about other people's posts and wanting threads closed when people argue. Don't want to hear about it - don't start the conversation.

Yep. None of these need a comment. They're meant to inform, not promote dialog. I don't think lack of comment is necessarily a good gauge of interest.

But not even that. I have clicked on them just to click back out. Didn't read it.

If Ed wants to continue, fine. All I am saying is why not contain them? Maybe his own section?

You were interested enough by the tag line to click and see what it was... there fore some interest. Even if it was a mistake click its not like people do that constantly.
But even so, 15 in a one hour period is ridiculous.
I am not saying don't post any, I am saying contain it.
A recall section would be good. Have something that indicates new information.
The others, fine. Start all the others.

He didn't complain about any one poster specifically. He complained about the arguing on multiple threads - which does get old. He didn't call one person out, he didn't complain about any one person's posting style or content. All he did was say the arguing is tiresome and would be best contained in one place rather than contaminating every thread and slowing down discussion of multiple topics.
Some people used that opportunity to bash Ed and what he posts. I think that is wrong and rude. He can post whatever he wants. And yes, others can choose to post whatever they want about it. But I won't be a part of the "pile on Ed" party.

If you're going to complain about Ed and the multiple threads he starts, what about LGS? She posts a ton of crap everyday half of it doesn't get a response, and most of it is just the same subjects over and over.
Now that Husker is back, it appears to me that some threads have turned into arguments that have NOTHING to do with the thread topics.
Perhaps everyone who wants to argue and fight could confine that stuff to THIS THREAD, so the rest of us could discuss actual discussion topics.
Please??
As much as I feel you have a right to complain about each other, I would like it if every time a thread turns into a personal argument or member-bashing,
that thread would be immediately CLOSED, and the people who might want to discuss the real topic could just start another thread with the same title.
Okay?

True, however when it is the same 3 people that are generally annoying to most, then it's the annoying people who are the problem I think.

Excuse me but he did blame one poster.
He said now that husker was back...he did NOT say husker was responsible nor did he say was the one doing it. He said it started upon husker'so return. He mentioned the timing. That's how I read it. Never said "husker did this". The same as husker's use of colorful language...he doesn't call posters the offensive words, he calls their thinking or their actions the offensive words.

You know, I never have ever understood this. Telling someone they think like an idiot is, TO ME, the same thing as calling them an idiot. But that's JMO.

I have to agree, but one is against the rules & one isn't.

Exactly. I get the rules totally and understand them fully. I understand that one is against the rules and the other isn't. But, TO ME, they're both just as obnoxious and bad. I don't see how saying something thinks like a stupid little bitch could be considered flattering in any way.

Meh. One person's "arguing" is another person's debate. I don't find it particularly hard to scroll past certain posters I don't care to read. And, there is only so much one can say in a Daily thread about what I am cooking today or what my kids did or if I am going to the dentist. I like to gnosh on all kinds of things from religion to politics to parenting.

The problem with the whole "I don't like arguing" mantra, is that the person who doesn't like it, never seems to have any responsibility for themselves. You can scroll past it. You see that a certain poster is more annoying to you and skip past their posts. You can start your own threads and on and on. Instead of controlling themselves, they want to tell others what they can say, think or do. I would rather be "offended" all day long having a lively discussion than have this board turn into Facebook with a lot of lame, suzy sunshine pumper posts. If that's YOUR thing, then fine and dandy. Have at . Create threads with just that. But, don't try to turn around and limit the rest of us from talking about what we want to talk about in the way we want to talk about it.
