So Netanyahu said that there will never be a Palestinian state under his leadership. He's reversed his 2009 commitment to a peace process that included a two state option. I'm super curious to see how this all plays out since the ICC, European Union and the US has admitted that Gaza is an occupied territory. Even the International Criminal Court recognizes the statehood.
Shall we discuss?
Thought it would be more interesting that rehashing abortion, gay rights and other such things.
He has tried to be peaceful. Palestine won't hear of it. It's hard to hold up your end of the bargain while being bombed by the people you are supposed to be peaceful with. Personally, I wouldn't give a rats azz what the ICC, the European Union, or Obama says. They have all turned their back on Israel. They have a right to defend themselves, to hell with people like our president that don't think they should...

I think Ohfour is right on point here. Seems the world (most of it) has turned their backs on Israel. Probably has to do with Obama's "let us play nice and everything will be OK" policy. More power to Netanyahu. Believe he has said that creating a Palestinian state would simply be an invitation to ISIS to move right in. He is correct here, too, I believe.

I'm interested in current politics of the region since WW2.
Thing is, what is going on in Israel today is in the Bible.

COMMENTARY: The Bible is clear on the future of 'Palestine'
Many world leaders have plans for the formation of a Palestinian state in the Holy Land. Unbeknownst to most, the future state of Palestine and its terror-controlled neighborhoods has already been declared in Scripture.
In a major step towards statehood, Palestinian leaders, with help from the United Nations, have designs to divvy up Israel’s sovereign land. Their plan is to introduce a resolution at the UN on November 29 recognizing the Palestinian-controlled areas of Israel as an “observer state”, with the ultimate goal of seizing Israel’s sovereign land as their own state and making Jerusalem the capital of a newly-formed Palestine.
However, the supreme guide of the Muslim Brotherhood, from whom Egypt’s President Mohamed Morsi takes his orders, declared that a Palestinian state will not happen by U.N. efforts. Claiming that Jihad (war) on Jerusalem is the only way to seize control, Sheikh Mohammed Badie declared, "Jerusalem is Islamic ... and nobody is entitled to make concessions" on the Holy City.
President Obama does not make it clear whether he intends to back U.N. efforts to give Israel’s sovereign land to the Palestinians, or to privately support the Muslims as they wage Jihad on Israel’s soil. A quick check of President Obama’s foreign policies at WhiteHouse.gov reveals that he does intend to help create a “State of Palestine”: “two states for two peoples – Israel as a Jewish state and the homeland for the Jewish people and the State of Palestine as the homeland for the Palestinian people.”
Currently obscured by man’s plans to create a “State of Palestine” on the land of Israel, stands the word of the Lord regarding His plans for Palestine.
The Bible declares, “As for all my wicked neighbors who seize the inheritance I gave my people Israel, I will uproot them from their lands …if they learn well the ways of my people and swear by my name, saying, ‘As surely as the LORD lives’…then they will be established among my people. But if any nation does not listen, I will completely uproot and destroy it, declares the LORD.” (Jeremiah 12:14-17)
So, we see that the Lord has plans to uproot and destroy any nation that seizes the land He gave to the Jews as an inheritance. The question now remains, when?
The words of Yeshua ha’Mashiach (Jesus) provide a major clue to the end of Palestine. Yeshua told Judah (the Jews) that He had other sheep not of their fold. He told the Jews He came for the lost sheep of the House of Israel, also called Ephraim or Joseph. (John 10:16)
Yeshua further identify the lost sheep of the House of Israel in John 10:27, where He stated, “my sheep hear my voice.” In essence, Yeshua claims that His followers are the House of Israel, otherwise known as Ephraim or Joseph.
Isaiah 11:13-14: “Ephraim (House of Israel/fullness of gentile nations who follow Jesus) will not be jealous of Judah (the Jews), nor Judah hostile toward Ephraim. They will swoop down on the slopes of Philistia (modern day Gaza) to the west; together they will plunder the people to the east. They will subdue Edom and Moab, and the Ammonites (modern day Jordan) will be subject to them.”
Therefore, when followers of Yeshua and the Jews unite as one nation, then you will see the end of the Palestinian threat in Israel, and Jordan will be in submission.
Of course, the Lord of the Bible not only has plans to deal with Gaza and the Palestinian attackers of Israel, according to Zechariah 12:9, He will deal harshly and severely with all nations who attack Jerusalem, “On that day I will set out to destroy all the nations that attack Jerusalem.”

well, you can argue till the cows come home all the " whys " and the " hows " and the " wherefores "
what matters in the here and now is that Israel is surrounded by many arab nations who have declared for generations that the nation of Israel must be destroyed--every man, woman and child--repeatedly and clearly
so does Israel wait for her enemies to strike ( with nuclear weapons for instance ) or does she strike first and eradicate the threat before it wipes out a sizeable part of her population / territory ?
I know what I would do

I agree. They must do what they need to protect themselves.
But one must understand the past to understand the present and make decisions for the future.

So what do you think should happen to all the displaced Palestinians? They can't even leave the Gaza strip. Should they become citizens of Israel? Should they go to another country? A lot of people (non terrorist regular people) are sort of stuck in limbo.
No they are not. They are a cohesive unit. You ask any Palestinian and they will tell you that Israel must be destroyed.
Don't forget, the Palenstines through the first punch.

Really? But the massacre of Jews during WWII is what the foundation is of this situation. We (the world) gave the Jews the Holy land and a small piece of it so they could have their own country to stop the centuries of massacre of their people when they live spread out in other countries. Its the least we could do for them, And at the time, most of the world agreed.

They should have left 65 years ago. Their decision.

What was supposed to happen to the people already living there? Sorry, but it was a terrible idea.
unfortunately do not have the definitive answer--however, cannot believe that letting a nation who has sworn to eradicate the nation of Israel develop or procure nuclear weapons, with potential casualties in the hundreds of thousands ( or more ) can be a sane or practical option for anyone in the region

Dona, I have to say that I HATE the attitude of people your age about Israel. You do not have the background or the personal experience to understand how they got there and why the situation is how it is now. It was not a terrible idea. Was it terrible to rip them away from their homes over centuries from these same people and others? I think so. I also don't think it was a bad idea to give them just a little piece of what they rightfully should have. And in addition, they have protected us, the US of A by doing our dirty work so we didn't have to. You have no clue what they have done for us. Shameful.

They literally can't leave Gaza. They don't have papers, passports and Israel won't let them out to move to other countries.
I'm not saying that answer is to give them a state for sure, but we can't keep a generation of people trapped that never made the decision not leave 65 years ago.

Why does Israel have to solve their problem. No one else will give them a home, either. There's a reason for that.

Let me dig up some various news articles for you. I'm generally interested in all this and want to hear both sides.
From the Associated Press:
The only legal ways in and out of Gaza are through its official border crossings with Israel and Egypt. Gaza has little control over those crossings, and both of its neighbors have severely restricted the movement of people and goods across the borders because of security concerns.
Israel controls the Erez border crossing in Gaza's north. Since Hamas was voted into power in Gaza in 2006, Israel only grants Gaza residents permission to cross in certain circumstances, usually for humanitarian reasons such as medical treatment. At the start of the current round of fighting, Israeli authorities did permit hundreds of Gazans holding foreign passports to leave the strip through the Erez crossing.
While Hamas has no control over who will eventually be allowed into Israel, it can turn away those approaching the border from inside Gaza, as it did on several occasions this month. On July 15, the group closed the border "because of constant Israeli shelling," though there were no reports of shelling at the time. Palestinians trying to cross for medical treatment were left stranded.
The Kerem Shalom crossing, the main point of entry and exit for goods on the Israeli border, is also controlled by Israeli authorities. They limit what can be brought in and out of Gaza and prevent the import of goods they say can be used to build weapons or tunnels. This includes cement and steel, which are crucial elements needed for the construction of roads and houses. Israel also bars virtually all exports from Gaza.
The Rafah crossing connects Gaza with Egypt. Since the ouster of Egypt's Islamist President Mohammed Morsi, the new government has typically kept the crossing closed for goods as well as people. Even when the border is open, the right to pass is restricted to certain groups, such as medical patients and residents with foreign passports. "Even for those, there’s a waiting list of 15,000 people, according to Hamas border authorities," the Associated Press notes
Conquered lands in war get divided by the victors. To still whine about it decades later is ridiculous.
I'm sure you wouldn't feel that way if someone took your land. They can whine all they want, doesn't mean it won't change anything and that they shouldn't realize they aren't going to get what they want.
True, but shouldn't there be a real plan to deal with the situation rather than just annexing a bunch of people to a strip of land where they are stuck?

Well, that ship has kind of sailed. Nobody wants them because they have proven to be a belligerent, violent people who don't keep their word.

Bonny the border restrictions are due to the high rate of terrorism from that area. That is on the Palestines, not anyone else.

Since 1948, none of the surrounding countries will let them in. It's not the Israelis who are keeping them in refugee camps, it's Syria, Egypt, Jordan. It's politically more valuable to the Arab states to keep them as pawns.

And I believe the Arab states started using them as pawns when Israel was first established. As I understand, the Israelites were willing to live side by side with the Palestinians who were in that part of the world, but the Arab states said: No, do not do that. We will support and help you. Well, that did not work out very well; Arab states ignored the Palestinians plight. And the present situation is here....

I'm going to disagree. There are acts of terrorism on both sides. Israel has bombed schools and hospitals and relief centers. It's not all one sided.
Because THAT is WHERE the Palenstinians have put there weapons, supplies and are hiding.

When a school is used as a site for launching rockets and mortar shells, it might LOOK LIKE a school, but it's a military installation and, therefore, a target.
When a hospital is used to store tons of rockets, high explosives and other weapons,
it might LOOK LIKE a hospital, but it's a military warehouse, and, therefore, a target.
I think the Israelis have shown great restraint, when they could have just carpet bombed everything near the border.

They did that because that's where Hamas hid their weapons--plus, said attacks were in RESPONSE to rocket attacks from the Palestinian side to the Israeli.
Your logic is like saying Britain was wrong for bombing Germany at any time after the Battle of Britain.

Israel, even under Netanyahu, has shown GREAT restraint in dealing with both the terrorism right across its border, as well as the very real threat of Iran developing a nuclear weapon which the Obama administration seems to want to fast track.

Yes, but they were not the only victors. 33 countries voted in favor of the partition, with only Arab states voting no. Britain abstained. And Britain's history of treatment of the Jews was not too stellar during WWII and leading up to it.
