Not all change is good. I can't agree with that concept at all.
But, as for tithing, I had never heard of a church asking for proof of income before. And tithing is NOT a strict 10% anywhere in the Bible, it should actually be more if you have more to give. Tithing does not mean not paying your light bill or feeding your family. It means keeping only what you NEED, and being generous with the rest. Tithing is not about what the church receives, so much as about what you are giving. It may not all be to the church - you may be giving to the hungry or the homeless. But giving should be from the first fruits, and not what is left over after you do everything you want, like buy new clothes and go on vacation. Tithing should be part of the first things you pay, like rent, utilities and food.
Everyone says 10% because it's easy. But if you can easily give 10% and still live in luxury, 10% is not enough. And if you can't give 10% and eat, then 10% is too much.
I had not heard of it either until we moved to Indiana. They wouldn't let DH transfer his membership until they got a look at our tax return so they could tell us "how much you can afford to give". At the time, we were not making much, enough but not much. I had to be very careful with things to make enough to pay for things. And they were going to tell me how much we could afford to give to the church. I tried to tell them, we have bills and expenses you don't see on our tax return. What about those? They told us any bills or expenses we had were to be paid after the church was paid. The church came first. We didn't sit through the entire meeting - we excused ourselves and left saying maybe this wasn't the church for us.

I'm sad. My sister moved out today. I think I really took for granted how nice it was to have my sister living with me. I miss her already.
You will miss her. But you'll still be close. Probably even closer.

That's the view onto campus tonight. I though we were done with this crappy weather. It's pretty but I am over it!!! Where did spring go?!?!!!
It's a beautiful picture.

Easy for you to say...snow is a distant memory for you!!! Lol
We actually haven't had snow. We had ice for all of two hours for two mornings. But we have dealt with an ungodly amount of rain. Everything is overflowing. Everything is mud. Pastures are just lakes. The medians along the side of the road are filled with standing water. We have nasty stuff growing in standing water. I'm sure the mosquito problem will be a huge issue here. And I'm sure wild life. Snails and frogs are all coming to our door, no lie, to dry off. Seeking shelter. Our yard is flooded. We can't keep the rugs or floors clean because the dogs go out and get muddy.

When my former SIL was on welfare the Catholic church she attended demanded she give and she did so willingly. That made me mad. It was the biggest diocese in the Spfld Ma area.

Sorry NAOW. At least she is close by?
I don't get it IKWTDS. Some people truly can't give. Shouldn't the church be there for them?
