While it may not be something I will be doing, I think it's great that there are shows about it. It's a lifestyle that people do live, and to deny that it exists would simply be foolish. As long as everyone involved is there of their own free will and over 18, they should be allowed to do what makes them happy.
OK. I am getting an "education" lol. Learning the terminology. "In the lifestyle", means that you are a swinger. Then there is "soft swap" which is everything but intercourse versus "full swap". Then, there are assorted rules about how you involve your spouse, etc.
This is the type of thing that leads to rampant STDs, which get spread. It's not a "good for them" thing when it affects other people, like those that may not know about their swinging.

Well I think we all have said as long as everyone is a knowing and willing participant.
Personally, I couldn't care less if my neighbor gets an STD. That's his/her problem.

was the rage in CA for a while--sort of a party culture out there--wasn't that big of a thing morally then--lots of booze / lots of drugs--one thing to participate another thing entirely to " live " the lifestyle

Yes, it was the "thing" in Cali, especially in the 1970's. Apparently on the East Coast as well, because a friend of mine from WV told me tales of his uncle...parties where they'd drop their keys in a bowl...
When I was a kid we had neighbors at the end of the cul de sac that were swingers. I was just a kid & had only an inkling as to what that meant. I had a general idea it had to do with sex. Anyway most of the adults in our quiet little neighborhood did not like the all night parties & they didn't stay long in the neighborhood. I'm not sure how they were blackballed but they were.

Might be yours if he gets syphillis, leaves it untreated, and goes insane.

or passes it along to your S.O. or your (hopefully adult) child.
I wonder whether the local Department of Health could send people into retirement communities to offer free screening and treatment.

If my adult child has unprotected sex - they are an adult and need to deal with the consequences.
If my spouse has unprotected sex with the neighbor, I have issues which have little to do with the neighbor's STD status. Seriously? Why would you possibly care if the neighbor has an STD? It isn't your business unless you are having unprotected sex with the neighbors. Heck - your neighbors could have STD's right now, how would you even know? Why would you care?

Seriously? We have a worldwide incurable STD that got spread before people realized what it was through blood transfusions. It's called AIDS.
If left untreated, syphilis can eventually cause damage to the brain, nerves, eyes, heart, blood vessels, liver, bones, and joints. In extreme cases it can cause difficulty coordinating muscle movements, paralysis, numbness, gradual blindness, mental illness, and even death. If you have syphilis and are pregnant, it can cause serious birth defects and stillbirth. Mental illness can drive people to harm others, and the birth defects caused usually end up causing a financial burden on society.
People don't live in a bubble. Everything you do affects the society you live in.

But sex isnt the only way AIDS is transmitted. Big difference. You can get it from all sorts of other ways that have nothing to do with sex.
So you know that your neighbors don't have an STD? I think you would be surprised if you knew everyone that had an STD. Lots of people live with them, and it doesn't effect your life at all.

There are organized "clubs" for lack of a better term, that swingers can join. They have rules and guidelines for their members who pay to be a part of it.
There are certain things that must be done to be a part of it. Testing is a big part of it.
Of course not every swingers club is so clean cut.

This has gotten way OT. I seriously doubt a closed group of swingers is rampantly spreading STDs. I imagine there are more STDs circulating on college campuses than swinger groups.

Exactly! Who cares if they swing and catch STD's? It's not going to effect me one bit.

And it still doesn't effect me. There are plenty of immoral disgusting people out there whose daily actions have no impact on me whatsoever. If you want to do something in your own home that isnt illegal, amongst consenting adults...have at it. Why should I care? It's not my business.

"Swinging is immoral and disgusting. How's that?" - Lawyerlady

Immoral according to whom though? It may go against our beliefs, but not everyone shares our beliefs. Fortunately, in the United States morality in general isn't forced upon us, because some of the things Christian women do would be considered immoral by Muslims. Are those things still moral, even though they are immoral to others?
I have talked to people in the lifestyle. The men love and most of the women feel forced into it. I know one lady I talked to had a lot of legitimate health problems. She felt like she had to say yes when her husband brought it up because he was already talking about straying. She said she participated but she really didn't enjoy it. I've known several women who felt like they had to do it or their relationship would end. I've also talked to a few couples who swing with their grown kids. No, they don't have intercourse with their children but they swap partners with their children. I, personally, have never talked to a single woman who told me they liked the lifestyle. And STD's ARE very rampant. People say they test and stuff but I've known swingers who thought they were personally safe and ended up with STD's.
