I don't know where you are getting this nonsense, as nobody here is defending this woman.

Pretty much everyone including myself has said she deserves to be charged for threatening the business.

How many gay groups have come out in opposition of this woman?  None.  You would think that one of the GLBT mafia groups would condemn her.  Not a peep...

Nice normal people don't get offended by something and threaten to bomb places and kill people. JMHO

If this kind of anger is within her, then, no, I don't think that she was "nice & normal" all her life.

Okay, I'm confused...is this a "big gay hate machine" or a "mafia group?"

Or...is it two...two...two mints in one?

I think to be labeled a "radical" you need to be an actual activist that does more than tweet a threat when they get pissed off.  She did a stupid thing - whether she really meant it or not.  People say and do stupid things when they get pissed off.  But to dismiss her as a "radical" when she is a simply your garden variety lesbian b/c you don't want to admit to how some people can think and act is not being honest.

No, she is not your 'garden variety lesbian'. She is a person with anger issues who is also a lesbian.
Believe it or not, gays and lesbians can be normal people. It doesn't mean they don't have a few assh@les or crazies thrown in, but by and large, the group is just normal.
This woman has probably always had issues. And NO ONE is defending her, at all.

This I can agree with.

As to the firing, she should have been fired and I agree with it. People can say "I'd kill 'em", or "You're dead meat", or other such things and most of the time it's nothing, just someone letting off some steam. But, just because it's nothing most of the time doesn't mean it couldn't be a threat some of the time, and threats, even empty ones, need to be taken seriously.

Something I saw on a thread somewhere recently: "Freedom of speech doesn't mean freedom from repercussions from your employer or your neighbors or your school. It just means the government won't prosecute you for saying something." That was paraphrased, but you get the idea.

Here you are with the insulting shaking head again. It's funny because I think you're the one in your own special world where everyone must agree with you or you attack. You are both defending this woman by pretending that this kind of crap only happens with "radicals". Go research this lady and you'll find she's a nice normal lesbian who thinks it's ok to threaten someone else because she's been led to believe it's her right to impose her opinion on others. Very much like you try to do.

If she was a "nice normal" PERSON, no matter WHAT her sexual orientation was, she would not be suggesting that anything be burned down.

People are nice and normal until you find out they're not nice and normal. She felt empowered to say this because gays seem to have all the rights right now while it's the in thing to tear down Christians.

This! Why is this so complicated?  This woman does not represent the community at large. End of story.

Oh, but that wouldn't let the poor, persocuted Christians be the victims of 'The big gay hate machine'.

By all means, go pretend there is a giant conspiracy to disenfranchise Christians and let homosexuals run the world.  The rest of us will get on with our lives.

You act like only you have the answer to everything. It's not complicated. The gay movement is stomping on my rights in order to get theirs. End of story. The rest of us Christian will get on with our lives as well. That's the thing about opinions. Everybody has one and it may not be the same as yours. I'm not asking anyone to believe as I do I only want to do what I believe is best for me but I'm not gay so...

I don't know, but I refuse to believe that a majority of homosexuals CONDONE violence.

And maybe they have, but the media decided it wasn't sensational enough.

Yep - can't even find this on the liberal news outlets. Just like there are no main stream articles about the vandalized churches in North Carolina with hate language sprayed all over them by gay supporters.

Not any more dramatic than you flan. Newsflash: Christian people are actually people.

What's more dramatic than suing a bakery because they won't make you a cake or better yet threatening to burn the place down because they wouldn't bake someone else a cake?

Maybe a ballot proposal to kill gay people.

In February, California attorney Matt McLaughlin paid $200 to propose a ballot measure called the Sodomite Suppression Act. McLaughlin’s measure describes gay sex as “a monstrous evil that Almighty God … commands us to suppress on pain of utter destruction.” Given these high stakes, McLaughlin suggests all gay people “be put to death by bullets to the head or by any other convenient method.”

But it wasn't JUST her. People are acting like it was just her that made threats. There were NUMEROUS threats made my gay groups. The police had to shut down the WHOLE STREET at one point for safety reasons. And did you hear some of the letters they received? Some of the letters they received said they hoped the owners were raped and tortured. And that their kids and grand kids were cut into little pieces and washed into the sewer where they belonged. It wasn't just this ONE lady. Many people sent hate mail.

I keep seeing these people target these bakeries. Yes, I said target. It's always a Christian bakery. It's never a bakery of any other religion. And they always pick small family owned/operated businesses that will never be able to fight them in court due to limited funds. I think they purposefully do this because so many times the family owned shop ends up just closing up. They can't stand the financial pressure so they close the doors. And to me targeting these people IS hate. Some of these stores/places have been in families for generations and they're now being taken away. That goes against everything that we've been taught to cherish and hold dear as Americans. In the case of the lesbians suing the bakery on the other thread it was a family owned business. They had children. How hateful is it to strip them of their income and leave their family without a way to survive just because your rights are more important than everyone else. And how come these people never sue a huge chain bakery? Wal-Mart, Sam's, Costco, and most large chain grocery stores make wedding cakes too. Why won't they sue them? Oh, that's right, because those people have money to fight these stupid lawsuits and would counter sue and take the couple down.

I am so tired of the in your face you will accept me even if I have to harm everyone in my path and yours to make you do it attitude.

No.  I don't understand bringing frivolous lawsuits, hating people who don't do anything to you just because that's your cause, and pretty much being a mean and spiteful person.  I'm so tired of hearing "We were discriminated against for years so now we have the right to be azzholes."  Guess what, blacks were discriminated against for a long time.  Is the world perfect?  No.  But you still have black people running around saying the whole world is out to get them.  Well, the same thing goes for gay people.  The whole world isn't out to get them.

YOU can justify their crappy behavior and stupid lawsuits all you want but I'm becoming less and less tolerant of gay people for these very reasons.  Don't run around acting like an azzhole and trying to force me to believe what you want and do what you want and I'll be more tolerant of you.  Back me into a corner and I am not going to like you one little bit.  And lawsuits are exactly that.

No, I don't understand people like these women who sue for no reason at all.  They could have gone somewhere else.  They made a point of destroying a family business that put food on the table for children.  No, I have zero sympathy for them.  None at all.  And I don't understand them.  All I see in their actions is hate.  You can pretty it up any way you want to.  You can try to say it's okay for them to act that way because the world didn't always treat them fairly.  The truth is they plain and simple made chit up and filed a lawsuit.  That is hatred.

Opportunists ...

Like the con artists who go into a grocery store, drop a bottle of dishwashing liquid on the floor,

then a minute or two later "slip" in the puddle, fall down and sue.

Flan , everyone faces discrimination every day. Too young , too old , too fat , too thin, to tall, to short. Southern accent , NY accent. Dressed to fancy. Not fancy enough. Not the right degree. From the wrong neighborhood. You can literally spend your life whining about all the perceived injustices in the world. Or u can decide life isnt fair and go work hard an enjoy life.

Yes, and this pisses me off to no end and makes me hate the whole cause.

I know people think that's not fair but when you put yourself out in the news saying you are a gay person suing for discrimination you actually DO become an example of what gay people stand for.  And this constant suing, threats, and other nonsense from the gay side is pulling the movement BACK.  Not pushing it forward.

I mean seriously, I'm overweight. And I can't expect to sue McDonald's for making me overweight. I can't say McDonald's is not treating me fairly because when I eat there I get fat. It's ridiculous. The truth is I shouldn't go there so much if it's making me fat. (I don't really care for McDonald's btw.) I wouldn't expect people to feel sorry for me with that argument. Of course people are going to say, You're fat. Stop eating there so much. It's common sense. Fat people are so stupid. And I wouldn't be doing fat people any favors by bringing such a stupid lawsuit.

All of this. People are disappointed or discriminated against every day and they don't sue.

I said disappointed as well as discriminated against. It happens all the time and no one sues. Reread what I wrote.

On second thought....i might decide I don't feel like baking the cake because of obnoxious people like this.
If someone can try and push me....i have as much right to push back.

And furthermore...
Trying to disrupt the event....picketing threatening and screaming hate language is discrimination.
Respecting their right to do what they want and simply choosing to not participate is the antithesis of discrimination.
IMO

People need to realize that this is not your standard discrimination issue. Assuming that all states make sexual orientation a protected class (they are not all, yet) then you still have the issue of TWO protected classes with rights clashing. When that happens, you have to weigh the harm to each class and determine who is more harmed.

Is the homosexual couple more harmed by having to find another baker or is the religious person more harmed by being required to participate in something against their religious beliefs?

For me - requiring someone to participate in something completely against their religous objections is more damaging than someone having to choose another service provided.

The problem is that the people who disagree with religious beliefs don't respect the religious freedom rights.

Exactly LL. One side is trying to force Christians to do, think, act, feel, and accept the other side. Christians, AS MUCH AS THEY ARE BEING ACCUSED OF IT, are not. Christians are not asking anyone NOT to get married. NOT to have a wedding. Not to be gay. Not to do what THEY want. All they are asking is that the gay people leave them out of their lifestyle and plans. Christians are not trying to force gay people to not be gay. They just don't want to partake in their celebrations of what most Christians consider sin.

I think you are focusing on the wrong part of the problem. I see it as people need to realize that people are people and businesses aren't. People are "endowed by their creator with inalienable rights", businesses aren't. Businesses only have the rights granted them by the government. Unfortunately for some, none of those rights that businesses have is the right to discriminate.

That's exactly how it works in South Africa, LGS.

As an individual, you have a great set rights.

The minute you operate as a business with the appropriate licences, you cannot discriminate against any protected class. As long as your clients requirements are legal and within your product/services parameters, you cannot discriminate, regardless of the operators (both owners and employees) religious views/sexual orientation/race. An individual have race, gender and religious freedom, businesses don't.

Geez, she was stating something pertinent to the discussion.

And I agree with her.
