My former vet has had his license revoked and now the government came and shut down his office. He was arrested earlier this year and some time last year for illegally buying animal meds. He had his license suspended and then got it back but bought stuff while suspended. Apparently he has had a substance abuse for a while now and had been in rehab.

I stopped using him a few years ago because his prices were way above other vet offices and every time I took one of my pets I felt like I was being pressured to upgrade additional services. He has been serving this community for many many years. He was also a large animal vet, he visited farms and also cared for all the pound pets. It is such a shame. Just goes to show you how easy it is to take the wrong path.

Gosh, what a shame, SB. I bet you're glad you changed Vets when you did.cry

I was very displeased the last few times I went. The office staff (his whole family) was kind of rude and pushy. I guess they needed the money.

Oh jeez, that's uncalled for. Yes, I would have dropped him like a hot rock. Rude and pushy is the pits.

Makes me sad. He took excellent care of my pets for years. The local news had a small article on Facebook. The comments pretty much reflect what I experienced. Someone said they were even accused by the office staff of drug seeking. Kind of ironic.

I don't know about vets, but you'd be surprised how many physicians go down this road. Using their position to divert drugs.

I see all the cases, and some of them are really sad. The saddest ones are those that got addicted to painkillers after surgery or a legitimate injury, then went down the oxy and heroin road.

Addiction is horrendous and it happens across all socioeconomic levels.

That's why I advise everyone I know who takes narcotics after surgery - get off them as soon as you can! You never know if you'll become addicted.

And I really wish prescribing physicians would learn more about how to properly wean people off painkillers.

DD's first dentist lost his license for over prescribing pain meds to his receptionist. I never liked the conditions of his office and equipment but had to go there due to exDH's insurance. It is really sad that people who are obviously smart enough to get a medical degree and savvy enough to go into business do stuff like that and ruin their professional and probably personal life.

One of the former docs in the practice I go to was trading oxy scripts for coke. He had a huge addiction. He was in cahoots with a couple dozen dealers. When he got arrested the practice had to do major damage control and sent out letters to all the patients. He was well loved in the community and it was a huge shock.

We had a dentist in town (whose son was in DD's class) get arrested for selling Rx to people who just walked in. No need to perform any actual dental services, just make an appt and when you go in, offer to buy painkillers from him. In order to get a good character witness at his trial, he made a HUGE donation to the building fund and the priest showed up and said what a great guy he was at the trial. The dentist even told us that's why he made the donation. Glad we moved away from that town.

WOw, that is really crazy SB. Glad you found another vet.

MM, that is awful. I don't know how people are able to act like that and not feel.. something. I couldn't do it.

I have seen that the licensing boards eventually catch up with these docs. We have a good physician health program for addiction in Mass., and some of them rehabilitate and get their licenses back. But some of them don't. What a waste to have a license permanently revoked after all the medical school, residency, fellowship, years of practice. All that money and hard work, down the drain of addiction.

Thing is, people get too comfortable doing this. Then the junkies start telling other junkies and the feds find out.

The love of my life was a Pharmacist.  He used to skim pharmaceutical cocaine from the inventory.  His habit of course increased and he started replacing the coke with aspirin and of course was caught.  This was before I knew him.  He rehabbed, did probation and built a new career.  He eventually move back to Ohio where his kids lived and went right back to the coke. He lost his license for good.  He threw away his expensive college education and a career where he could work anywhere for an addiction.

What a waste. I'm glad they took his license for life. It should be a lifetime revocation for a pharmacist.

More times I've heard of pharmacists being the whistleblowers on physicians.

It is sad.  One day not long ago I google his name and found his name on a legal paper permanently revoking his license.  Had he only learned the first time he would be fine today.  I'm glad we didn't get married, although heart broken at the time.
