Yes, I've heard this before but it doesn't make everyone a pedophile all the time. Still no excuse for why he brings it to almost every discussion, even ones that have nothing to do with sex. I'm not the only one who finds it creepy.

I said the same thing about children being able to shower safely. No one thought I was creepy. It's a valid problem for a lot of children living in homes without a mother and a father. What's sad is that some are so dismissive about the issue because they don't think it exists.

Contrary to what you think, I don't have a problem with you. I just think, in this case, ed's comment made sense. By calling him out when he is actually ON TOPIC, your point loses credibility. If we were talking about baseball, and he brought up abuse, ok, that would make sense to comment on his "obsession". I just noticed that he is saying exactly what I said - yet you think he is off topic.

And of course you can comment and say whatever you want! No one said you couldn't. I was just pointing out the lack of logic in your posts. Nothing wrong with either one of us.

I think since ed had to deal with the effects of that kind of abuse to someone he loves it is more of a major concern for him. As teachers in this area have said, it is not unusual for a mother to bring home different boyfriends to live with them. Some even bring home bf's who has a record for being a sex offender. It is more important for them to have a boyfriend then protecting their child.

I told you why I called him out and not you. I called him out because he brings it up all the time so my logic is just fine. I don't care if he was ON TOPIC it still creeps me out so I told him.

Bringing it up when others have also mentioned it doesn't make him creepy - it makes him a participant in the conversation. Not sure why that would creep you out. Again, if it was not on topic, then that would merit mentioning.

Just a few I remember 4 different 8 yr old girls told him how they lost their virginity and with who. 3 different 12 to 14 yr old girls told him all about their abortions. There are many more and I am not the only one who notices so believe what you want as will I.

I think on certain threads it's part of the conversation - like this thread, where I mentioned it first. On other threads, no, it is not normal. Just because it's sometimes not appropriate doesnt mean that it is NEVER appropriate to bring up.

Alright, I'm going to say something. You can flame away if you wish after I say it. I have a pedophile in my family. DH has one in his family. I have sat across the table from these guys and had dinner with them. I know who they are, what they are capable of, what they have done, how they do it, how they act, and how they talk. I have more experience with knowing them than I'd like to admit. However, even knowing that I know two of them I don't see them everywhere. Just because I know two doesn't mean two live in everyone elses house. It doesn't mean they're running around town in every house. They're just not rampant everywhere. Perspective. It helps immensely.

Now, this is a general statement. As a survivor of childhood abuse you have to learn to let go and forgive the person who abused you. You HAVE to. Here's the deal, when you say something like I'm going to do this because so and so wouldn't want me to do it so I'm going to show them they are still in control of you. When you are able to make decisions without thinking about how or what they'd say or do THEN you are free of them. If they are still influencing your life you have not forgiven them and not separated yourself from them. And here's the thing about abusers. THEY don't think about YOU. YOU are NOTHING to them. They have already moved on and gone on with their life while you, again general you, are holding onto the hatred and anger. As someone once said Hating someone is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to die. It just doesn't work.

Now, that being said I will address ed specifically. ed, you are doing neither your wife nor yourself any favors by being so angry and hanging onto all the baggage. It is not helping her and it's not helping you. You BOTH need to seek some help. YOU have so much anger and hatred in you that you need to face it and deal with it. It's not a good thing. It's just not. The sooner you deal with it the better. And I promise you, if you start dealing with it you won't see abusers everywhere and people will stop seeing you as a creepy old man.

Only one told me with whom. All told me their age when it happened or started, and one of them said "but it was my fault." Not the one who told me who the male was.

I overheard conversations between about a dozen girls lined up on stretchers in the Operating Room in Kings County Hospital (Brooklyn) one day, while they waited for their abortions.

On a different day, I rescued a girl outside in front of Kings County, where she was sitting on a stone bench in a snowstorm, waiting for her boyfriend to pick her up after her abortion. I figured she could freeze to death if I left her there (she was already shivering hard), and several older women of her same color walked by and ignored her crying and calling for help.

One time when I was sitting in a doctor's waiting room, a 20-ish woman fell over on me, after they let her get up too soon after her t.o.p.

I don't remember any more abortion-related incidents at the moment. Any questions?

Well, in Ed's defense, I dont' think you have to see abusers everywhere to be aware of abuse or to act in ways to prevent it. When my kids were little, I was very leary or sending them to sleepovers unless I knew the family well and felt comfortable. And, there literally were sleepoevers every damn night in this town, even school nights! It got ridiculous. And, not just sexual, but 2 am is when people turn stupid and kids want to get into mischief or drugs/alcohol, etc. So, I was more cautious of that. And, you dont' if someone has some weird uncle hanging around.
And, I also was careful on where I let my kids walk and when they could walk alone and things like that. I was abused by a neighbor in 3rd grade. So, if that is overkill then so be it. That doesn't mean someone sees a pedophile around every corner. But, let's not pretend they aren't there either.

Have any of you gone on the sexual predator website to see how many live in your area? I was shocked. I live in a very nice middle to upper middle class suburb. There are literally dozens in the area. We found out one lives on my BFF's block. I know some were probably over 18 with teenage GFs who's parents got angry but that can't account for all of them. And those are just the ones who were caught & forced to register.

This last paragraph is entirely an opinion, yours. I do not see ed as being that angry. He's just as angry at his mom for smoking.

We all have strong opinions about some of our life experiences. There is nothing wrong with expressing that anger in context. I don't see ed interjecting his issues into every single thread. I think that was an over reach by some here.

Whatever, some need to get over themselves and stop targeting other posters, IMHO.

See, I don't have that list. I have a Sex Offender Registry that lumps them all together. Then you click on the address and the name and crime comeup. We don't have any that say they were crimes against children...

See, I don't have that list. I have a Sex Offender Registry that lumps them all together. Then you click on the address and the name and crime comeup. We don't have any that say they were crimes against children...

I've never seen any on the registry for streaking o peeing in public. They are all real crimes. Luckily there's none in my neighborhood.

Wow. That's great that there are so few. There are a ton here, and I live in a smallish town. I've looked in the neighborhoods of my friends and family and around areas where we hang out- all of them are for 'real' crimes (not Romeo & Juliet like cases, public urination, or streaking).

I only know from all the times he talks about his MIL. All the anger he displays when he does and how he talks about other things concerning her. It's apparent. Trust me, I was at the point at one time. But that's fine. It's not hurting me if he chooses to hang on to it.
