The Puzzler


RAY: We all know that pirates -- in fact many sailors of old -- had patches over one of their eyes. The question is, why did old-time sailors frequently have no eyesight in one eye and wear a patch over it?

They would wear a patch over one eye, to improve their vision, when going into a dark place to fight.

Once they entered the hold, or dark area, they would pull off the patch, and be able to see if someone was about to attack them.

(My best guess. I saw something similar on MythBusters.)
