I do have to say I find it highly amusing that those who profess not to believe in God or the Bible think they should be telling those of us who do how we should interpret it and what it "really" means.
Anyone specific in mind, or just a generalization??
You know, historically speaking, many people never had "weddings". Not all places had preachers and they would have to wait months/years sometimes before a traveling one would come around. They vowed to each other (and before God b/c he sees everything), and then consummated the marriage, and wallah - married!

Quite a few specifics in mind but I know better than to go there...lol

Marriage is a religious institution. Marriage was instituted by God Himself with Adam and Eve. The legal ramifications and legalities of that came later. You can live in sin however you wish. If you want to live with someone and have sex with them, then fine go ahead and do that. But, don't then pretend that it is "ordained" by God for someone to just live together. There is no support for gay marriage whatsoever in the Bible. If you want to support gay marriage and recognize it legally, then fine. We as a society can change the laws and do just that. Fine. But, stop pretending the Bible says something it clearly does not say.
I mean, if you don't want to follow the Bible or don't believe it, then that's your choice. But, don't try to twist it say it says things it does not say.

I am not twisting the Bible to say things it does not say. I am interpreting it in the manner in which I believe Jesus would wish us to, using love and understanding and tolerance and respect as my guide. Does Mark 9:38-40 not say "...we saw one casting out devils in thy name, and he followeth not us: and we forbade him, because he followeth not us. But Jesus said, Forbid him not: for there is no man which shall do a miracle in my name, that can lightly speak evil of me. For he that is not against us is on our part."?
Neither did I LGS but he likes to quote scripture.

Well, some people think just KNOWING the verses is all you need.

OK. And, I agree with that. That is why we have multiple denominations. But, there has to be some common message upon which is agreed or it isn't the same message is it?

What? Of course they can. There have been blasphemers forever. People spread false doctrine all the time and that is NOT the work of God. That verse speaks of doing MIRACLES in God's name - not just talking.

21“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ 23Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!

Wow. All I can say is you certainly know how to pick and choose passages and then misinterpret them every single time.

The Bible says you are wrong. But you ignore those verses in favor of the ones you like.

This is just a guess, but I believe that the possibility that you could be misinterpreting the Bible hasn't even crossed your mind. Has it?
No it hasn't because I don't use just the verses that I like or that support what I WANT it to say. I use the whole Bible and thousands of years of Church teachings to interpret it not wishful thinking.

I don't just use individual verses. I also use the whole Bible. However, in this type of forum, just putting a link to the Bible would be insufficient. Since "here's my answer: Bible.com" doesn't work well, I post the appropriate verse or verses.
