In light of our rule about keeping other board drama off this board, this is a closed PSA. 

 

Rule modification -

Prior rule:

= The policy of this board is blanket amnesty, as it regards posters' conduct from other boards. The one exception to this is that permanently banned members of the Geek Table are banned here as well. Also - if you "figure out" who someone is on another board - their user name there is private information as to this board. You may not "out" someone who may be trying to get a fresh start by telling their old user name(s) here. If they want people to know, they will tell them. See above for the consequences of sharing private information.

Modification to rule:

The second exception to this rule is if you were banned from another board for sharing non-public information in a harmful or malicious manner or for stalking another member IRL.  If that is the reason you were banned from another board - you are not welcome here.  This is to protect all members from people who do not understand the basic honor of message board anonymity and safety.

Clarification - "harmful or malicious manner" means it could affect them IRL. It does not mean the harmless PM gossip that I know everyone does.

I'll open the thread for discussion of the rule - but let's please try to keep "other board" drama on the other board. Thank you.

I am not on any other boards, so I guess technically I don't have a dog in this fight. But it sounds like a reasonable rule to me.

I don't belong to any other boards so technically I don't think this even applies to me. But I'm curious as to what brought this rule around.

This sounds like a good rule, but I have a question. How on earth will you be able to tell if a new person applying to the board is or is not a banned poster from another board?
It seems unlikely that they would volunteer this information, especially if they are looking for a place to start over.

 I won't unless they are using the same name.  But if I find out after I've let them in, I need the rule in place to get rid of them.

That junk makes this board look absolutely heavenly in comparison to those "other" personalities.

As an example only.....say you have a poster's real name due to Secret Santa or something and over time you really, really start to dislike this person, and so you decide to use resources to find out stuff about this person.  Maybe you are a cop or private investigator or work at a national bank they use or have a mortgage with and you can access all sorts of things about them or you work at the Social security office, or maybe a collection agency.   And then you decide to start sharing that information with other people by PM on the board system....and therefore compromise both the person's safety and financial identity.  And someone tells on you, and copies your PM to the mods, and you get banned. 

That type of person would not be welcome here.

mnd--mandatory non-disclosure only--basically, to join is necessary for folks to verify / vet your background/career/curriculum vitae and you are assigned a unique user name for that board only and may not be disclosed/used anywhere else on the internet
