TOPIC: Parents' outrage after their autistic daughter is kicked off flight because she made the pilot 'feel uncomfortable'
The girl was in a window seat, blocked in by her family. Show me where the mother said she would turn her loose to attack other passengers.
She threated that she would attack a flight attendant. That's all it takes. Other passengers don't matter...
No, she absolutely did not.
Her mother said that unless she got her hot food, she could have a meltdown and scratch someone. That "someone" wasn't specific. If she had told me that, I would assume she meant me. No matter though, she could have meant other passengers. They should be protected...
"might scratch someone" and "attack a flight attendant" are two very different things. Have you ever had to deal with an autistic child in a meltdown? The are not attacking people.
Don't care. If someone threatens possible harm to me or others to get their way, that is reason for her to be booted. If she's that bad off, she shouldn't be flying anyway...
SHE did no such thing.
She's non verbal. Her mother threatened. Potato, pototo. Harm was alluded to if she didn't get her way. She may be put on a no fly list and I would support that...
She's non verbal. Huh. So, anyone can just speak threats for her? uh huh. Not a good precedent.
Meh, the right course of action was taken. Again, they should put her on a no-fly list. Her MOTHER has indicated she is a danger to others. I wouldn't want to be on a flight with her...

There are lots of people I'd prefer not to be on the plane with. Drunken first class passengers come to mind.
They usually don't threaten bodily harm...
But they can cause it without a nice threat first.
Did you watch the video? She does not appear a threat at all, and the passengers videoing it, and those around them couldn't believe it when she was kicked off.
You might want to step off the world, there are lots of disabled people in it - including autistic children.

Because she had calmed down by then. Still doesn't excuse the threat...

We are never going to agree. That girl was not a threat - and the other passengers agree. Well, except for the one that thinks a 15 year old girl is going to be capable of opening an airplane door at 30,000 feet - I'll give her opinion what it is worth. There is nothing that says she actually had a meltdown or anything at all. And the mother's video said she would scratch - she didn't even say she would scratch someone else.
Autistic children have a disability and public accomodations are supposed to do what they can to reasonable accomodate them, according to their own policies. That didn't happen here.

I would like to see a video of her and her mother during the meltdown. And as for the pilot not checking on her, he was busy flying the plane and checking airport availability to land the plane.
Autistic children can have meltdowns at any time. Are you really saying they shouldn't be allowed to fly?
That's discrimination, pure and simple. And illegal.
Meltdown fine. Threat of harm, no.
Again:
Dr Beegle, who heads up an anti-poverty organization, is good at anticipating her daughter's moods and had requested the food so that her 15-year-old didn't become upset and possibly scratch someone.

Which shows that he made a decision based solely on a snotty flight attendant's report, and not his personal knowledge.

Would you have felt better if he left the ****pit and strolled down the aisle?

Happens all the time. Pilots aren't supposed to leave the **** pit (a rule since 9/11). This was handled correctly.

Apparently...
I mean, how far could the plane drop in 5 minutes?
And, like any person in charge, the pilot TRUSTED the flight attendant to access the situation.

flan
Which was his mistake.
Ever heard of a co-pilot? All planes are required to have one. The ignorance shown here is stunning.

I AM SAYING THAT THE MOTHER SHOULD HAVE BEEN BETTER PREPARED.
flan
You cannot prepare for all meltdowns.
Then she doesn't need to be on a plane...period...
And epileptics can have siezures, and people can have heart attacks. They might fling an arm out and scratch someone.
What if a diabetic needed food and the flight attendant said no, that's only for 1st class? And the diabetic's sugar level dropped making them unreasonable as low blood sugar can?
Obviously, no one with any medical or mental condition should ever be able to fly. And ban toddlers as well, they might have a temper tantrum. And old people with alzheimer's - no telling what they will do.

She did not threaten violence. She threatened a meltdown. Furthermore, she shouldn't have had to threaten anything. They should have given her the damn food without such a production.
