Advice for the Lovelorn

Well, not exactly lovelorn.  Maybe girls just want to have fun?  Maybe Honey's Mom has had enough misery and wants to enjoy life for a change?

Many of you know I have newly discovered a man at church, who is a friend only at my insistence.  We both are divorced with pretty awful marriages in our past.  He, unlike me, is looking for a spouse and has indicated to me that I "might be the one".  However, regardless of the interest he has expressed, he has agreed to my terms of "just friends".  And though I told him I have marriage on my bucket list RIGHT BELOW shoving an ice pick in my ear, I do (so far) enjoy his company and his conversation.  So I've come to an agreement with myself - why not enjoy life for a change and stop worrying?  I don't have to commit to anything, right?

My question to Geeks is:  What the heck do I call him?  We don't date and he is NOT my boyfriend; we are not and will not be intimate due to our mutual beliefs; we are simply trying to learn how to be friends.  What exactly is he?  I can easily introduce him something like, "This is my friend, R".  But when posting or emailing, the gender can make a difference and I would like a phrase, a description other than "friend"... am I overthinking this?  I will admit he is more than just an aquaintance.

An example of the sought-after description might be, "I went golfing the other day with my..." what?

NOW you're talking!! He's 5 years and 3 months younger than me, which makes me feel old.  How about we call each other boytoy and cougar? biggrin

If you want to distinguish him from your female friends, I vote for man-friend.

I do tend to overthink things, especially after my horrific experiences with men in general.  However, "Boytoy and Cougar" should get some laughs in the right company... biggrin

My friend Bob. Unless his name is not Bob, in that case I am lost.

Tell people you met in the naughty store. A guy I was dating used to tell people that, with my approval. It was a hoot.

Eh refer to him by his first name. People will eventually make innuendos about the relationship, you don't have to answer their questions.

I would just say 'friend' or his name. I think you are over thinking it a little :) If he is just a friend and nothing more, than calling him what you would call a female friend works fine.

I really, really like boytoy and cougar, but for practical reasons, my vote is; my friend (name).

Other than "friend", all the other choices seem to imply an intimate physical relationship. Which message do you want to send?

Are you S U R E ???

Don't worry about labeling it right now.

From personal experience, it doesn't have to have a label. Just enjoy having some one to share some time with.

Labels complicate things. Implies responsibility and intent.

At this point, you are both on the save page with this. Let it simmer. When it is time to put a label on it. You will.

Well, Boytoy and Cougar are definitely not for everyone and I may not even share it beyond this board.  They made me laugh for a bit.

Calling him "Friend" is my choice.  Unless he is handsome, then perhaps, "Eye candy"?  wink

LOL on arm candy and eye candy!!  No, R is not model material.  The good stuff is inside.  But he does have incredibly nice blue eyes. smile

Here you go. A song too!

You're my Honeybunch, Sugarplum
Pumpy-umpy-umpkin, You're my Sweetie Pie
You're my Cuppycake, Gumdrop
Snoogums-Boogums, You're the Apple of my Eye
And I love you so and I want you to know
That I'll always be right here
And I love to sing sweet songs to you
Because you are so dear

I think you should call him Tuesday.

And then you need to find 5 other "friends" and call them Monday, Tuesday... you get the idea.

But don't get more than 6. Gotta have a day to rest. Hehe.

LL, you are right!  Sometimes I just have to step away from a subject for awhile because I'll over-analyze it to death.

Lily, you just gave me a belly laugh!  Six of the buggers?  Makes me tired to think of it! biggrin

Thank you, Flan. smile
