Popular Ohio elementary school teacher Nicole LeMire was fired for 'public humiliation' after she said she talked to a student about his bullying
A beloved Ohio elementary school teacher has been fired for 'public humiliation' after she said she asked a child to consider how his bullying was affecting his peers.
Nicole LeMire approached the boy last month after she said she learned he was blowing mucus on other children, using inappropriate language and had pushed another boy to the ground.
LeMire said she merely asked the boy 'Do you know how your actions and your words are hurting other students and your friends?' she told NBC 4i.
She was placed on paid administrative leave at Glen Oak Elementary School, in Delaware County, just days later and was told she was under investigation for 'publicly humiliating' a student.
LeMire was fired with a 3-1 vote on Thursday at an Olentangy Schools board meeting that was packed with her supporters.
The board's official resolution claimed that LeMire had asked her class to take turns discussing how the student in question, referred to as 'Student A', had 'acted badly, violated rules, or insulted them, and/or why Student A was annoying or had no friends'.

LeMire was fired with a 3-1 vote at an Olentangy Schools board meeting Thursday. After the vote was announced many students, and even parents, were left in tears
'Ms LeMire required Student A to listen to classmates' complaints and refused to allow him to respond or defend himself against potentially embellished complaints', the resolution said.
During the three-hour board meeting a number of fellow teachers and students, past and present, spoke in defense of LeMire, who has been teaching for 14 years.
Marsha Seymour, LeMire's friend and colleague, called her a 'natural-born educator'.
'She truly has the child's best interest in mind, no matter what,' she said.
One student said LeMire was 'the most impactful teacher that I've had'.
After the vote was announced many students, and even parents, were left in tears.
One father yelled at the board, 'You are fired. Every one of you', while a mother comforted her daughter with a kiss on the head.
Another mother screamed at the board, 'You won't even support the good teachers, that's disgusting. I'm embarrassed to live in this district.'
LeMire said she has hired a lawyer and plans to pursue legal action.

What idiocy. What she did was VERY reasonable. Any school should be happy to have a teacher like that. When my son was acting out in Jr High, he was obnoxious to his teachers. I made him write hand written letters of apology regarding his obnoxious behavior. So, yeah, I "embarrassed" him. Yes, you SHOULD be embarrassed, shamed and humiliated at times. Those are very powerful tools to help you self correct your behavior.
This makes me sick. God forbid a teacher tries to teach a child something important. The left is destroying every aspect of this country.
I totally agreed with you up to this point. I don't know what this has to do with the idiot board members who can't figure out that disciplining a child is necessary.
It just seems like people on the left are more concerned with the feelings of bullies and criminals than they are with teaching people right and wrong. Not everyone on the left, but a lot of them.
They are not allowed to say anything negative to the parents about their child. Even if the parent asks.
"Did little Johnny bite anyone"
"Johnny had a great day"
They are not allowed to do anything more than put the child in a high chair when the child misbehaves. No matter what they have done. They are not allowed to tell a child "no" for any reason.
Where do you see this going? And do you think it will end well?
I don't doubt for one second this teacher got fired and I expect for in the future.
It's not going to get better people.

I know at least two day care workers that quit because of that stupid policy. Kids know what they can get by with and will act accordingly. Kids need boundaries And need to feel safe.
Lindley, a few have quit where C works because of it too.
I really don't see anything good coming from it.

Well, it seems society today wants everyone to feel good about themselves, whether the should or not. And God forbid that any snowflake do something that would warrant a talking to. Probably the teacher misunderstood. What part of blowing mucus on other children do you think she misunderstood. Maybe this is some kind of exotic initiation rite these days?? (Sarcastic, in case anyone misunderstands.)

As for who would send their child to that kind of place, it's every single day care in the world.
Kids bite, hit, scratch, kick. It's going to happen no matter which day care it is.
The point that you missed completely is that the ones doing it are not being disciplined more than put in a high chair. Parents are not being told their child is doing these things.

So you have PERSONALLY visited "every single day care in the world?"

Talk about delusional...

To be fair, Lily was talking about the daycare her daughter c worked at. I do believe her since I know reliable sources that had worked in daycare. States may have different rules for daycare centers.
Flan, tell me of one day care that doesn't have kids that bite, pinch, scratch, kick or hit.
It happens daily.
I was talking about the policy where Caitlyn works In particular.
But yes, there isn't a day care any where that doesn't have biting, kicking, hitting or what ever else.
Thanks for playing though.

Yes, that's ONE daycare. You claim that all daycares around the world are the same.

lord--here's a kid who confesses to bullying his classmates--and a teacher who pro-actively tries to do something about it--and is fired as a result of her efforts
what sort of message does this send to the bully ( or other bullys ) and the bully's parents ? how is this a POSITIVE outcome ? what sort of idiots sit on the school board ?
this is a travesty both for this teacher and the school district where she works--pure liberal, nanny-state BS

Just a side note. All our daycares here have the same policy Lily's do. DN worked in a couple.
Back to the subject. I can't believe this woman didn't know she wouldn't get in trouble. Please. We are raising a bunch of snowflakes. I don't disagree with what she did but that doesn't mean she's not going to get in trouble. Way too many parents these days believe little Johnny is innocent. My SS's mother thinks he does no wrong.

I read that as saying that every daycare has kids who bite, scratch, etc. as she says in the following sentence.
Do you know of a daycare where the kids don't do these things?

I dare her to say yes.
But, let's also point out that her "sky is falling" comment was before that one she's using as her excuse.

I don't need an excuse. The daycare that I sent DS2 to, I got daily reports on his behavior, both good AND bad.
The teacher in the OP should NEVER have been fired. Period.

Yes, nowadays you can't tell parents there kids have been bad. That's true. And in all daycares, and even schools, there are kids who hit, kick, bite, pinch, etc...

Thankfully that is not how daycares or schools are here. They are very gentle but strict disciplinarians. I've been very happy with how things are run at the places I've put dd.

Truth.
When I was tutoring, I had a problem kid. Kid lied to her parents about why she wasn't learning during tutoring. I couldn't outright tell the parent that her kid was the disruptive one but I could invite the parent to sit in an out-of-the-way spot during tutoring where she could still observe the session but her kid couldn't see her. Kid acted up as usual. Parent was pissed that her kid lied.
Just one of many experiences in the broken public school system I've had.

A couple of kids in Caitlyn's room, siblings, the boy was biting his sister. But only at school.
They kept them separate as much as possible. But in the mornings and afternoons, intake and outgoing, they be together.
Caitlyn could tell the parents that the girl had been bit. But she couldn't tell them it was the boy biting her.
The parents finally saw it happen when picking them up one day.

Again, nobody said they were. What Lily said is that all daycares have kids that bite and hit and misbehave. And that is truth. My DD11 went to the best daycare in town, and guess what? She was bitten, scratched and hit. And she bit other kids, too. Toddlers do that ALL THE TIME until they are taught not to. And if the teachers can't discipline them or tell the parents so the parents can discipline them, they are never going to learn.
